  • Don't want to be a hater, but you really shouldn't zoom in like that, can't see what the hell your doing half the time.. Apart from that, nice tutorial.

  • When I set it to landscape mode why can i not see the notes i placed? Its blank, while yours actually shows whats being played.

  • where's the download?? LOL.

  • Hey, How can you make a bass synth in simpler without the rate of the loop looping faster as you go up in pitch?

  • question,is there any reason why you singled out your drum samples, instead of using them in the drum rack?

  • I know if FL there's a much simpler way to do this technique. You just create two notes, one the lowest note, the other the highest note an octave or two up. Then go into note properties for the highest note and check slide. Wallah. A build.

  • man u got the best voice for instruction. years from now instead of thinking oh this guy sounds like (ive seen rocky, or others) ill think man this guy sounds just like that guy from the dubspot tutorials. did you add some reverb or something i swear it sounds the same way reagan (as in ronald) voice had like this rumble to it. you guys deserve massive government funding keep it up!

  • should i upgrade from live 8 to suite? cost 198 bucks, not sure if worth it.

  • @g00607978 YES IT IS WORTH IT! So much more things you can do with Suite that isn't available with regular live 8

  • Mike has a sexy voice! (no homo)

  • could you not have just automated a pitch envelope? this is way too much work!

  • You sound like Rocky Balboa

  • thanks!

  • Help! Even when I put all of the settings... and my notes in the right place... it doesn't transition like yours did... it still had that choppish notion! Please reply!

  • My Sampler plays the sample, then plays it again faster and faster and faster, it ruins the rythym of the build.

    Help Appreciated :)

  • where can i find the AnalogPulseC? where can find the link to download? thanks

  • downloadlink to the audio-file? :(

  • amazing intro- music...

    wow :O

  • He spent half the time explaining how it;s supposed to sound... I think we had the idea before we clicked the video.

  • i love you for this :p

  • u sir, are amazing

  • You say note funny

  • hey great tutorial it was very helpful...but how do u make a grouped drum track like the one u use in this video?

  • how do u make a grouped drum track like the one u r using in this video?

  • useful tutorial! thanks

  • GREAT INFO THANKS!!

  • Shake? Is that you? where did you leave FRY and Meat Wadd bro?!?!

  • How to you unfold this drum sample?

  • u sound like lik that 1 guy from paranormal state

  • How did you create those breakpoints?

  • his acent is AWSOME

  • lol yeah your voice sounds so robotic!

  • In the very beginning there are three channels to the right of the first channel that hold big squares and are named A, M and something else. What are those?

  • You have such a amazing voice x)

  • If you want to do this using reason or any vst synth just set the pitch wheel to 24 semitones and automate the pitch-wheel.

  • subscribed -thanks

  • you sound like a high school football playing bully

  • He sounds like Skwissgaar from Metalocalypse.

  • Dude! I love these tutorials, they have been helping me out a lot!

  • he says "note" like a Canadian.

  • Are you Joseph Gordon Levitt? The guy who plays Arthur in Inception?

  • You have a cool fucking voice... I think everyone else agrees

  • legend tutorial !! but I can't download the file attached this tutorial :(

whats the problem ? any other suggestions ?

  • @loybastiaens thanks for pointing that out, we're working on fixing the problem now.

  • I my instruments i dont find operator and the other ones i only have like 4 : Impulse, Simpler etc... whats up with that? thx for help

  • @Juanjolead you need Ableton Suite, that includes those instruments. You will need to upgrade.

  • @DubSpot thx a lot... im checking now for the upgrades... thx

  • "alright?"

  • I would really love to add this to my musics and such, but the file link in your description is dead, is there any other way of going about this that get to the same results?

  • @DubSpot When I make the build I use the same techniques as you displayed in the vid but it still sounds like individual notes rather than the ideal build. Not really sure whats gone wrong?

  • How do I get my clips from session view to arrangement?

  • @DennisElit hit tab. there are also buttons on the top left, but tab works

  • thanks for the tutorial

  • Thanks helped alot with what i was trying to achieve. Actually experimenting and shoving the loop button ''on'' simpler worked a treat. Made a phatt build!

  • You sound like officer barbrady from south park lol

  • As someone who also uses both (most of my videos were made with one, the other, or both), I can say that Live is far better for on-the-spot creation. Record/Reason are great for overall production, but AL8--in my opinion--is better overall. You have just as many if not more options as far options on the mastering/mixing side (you can actually use VSTs), and it's far easier to work with vocals. BUT, I LOVE using both! And, again, great video Dubspot

  • can i take an already existing song (like by Rihanna) and make a remix for it? How do I upload it? Thanks :)

  • @MrDetwaa you should check out dubspot.com and click on the link for online course, we have classes available that will cover this but it's more than we can go into here.

  • @DubSpot PLEASE ANSWER: When i open up my keyboard view to draw notes at top it says 1.2 the 1.3 then 1.3 up to 2 instead of 1 then 2 then 3 etc. Also in botoom right corner where it says 1/4 when i set mine to that it makes it so i can only make long notes where as yours are small. Its all screwed up. How can i fix.

  • Hey man, thanks for the video. Your voice is made for doing stuff like this (or possibly rapping). Really good tone and easy to pay attention to.

  • what do you think about reason propellerhead? what are some of the differences between reason and ableton live?

  • @MrDJBIGFOOT Reason is best for someone who wants to integrate digital production with their existing analog studio, whereas Live is made for someone who wants to incorporate music production with a live performance. At the end of the day, what's most important is picking the software that you're most comfortable with that allows you to create your own, unique sound.

  • @DubSpot not necessarily true

reason's synths DO have weaker sounding waveforms and filters

while I'm not saying that it's impossible to create good sounding synth patches with reason, it is a lot harder and takes more effort than using vsti

  • @pinoyjustin ableton live 8

  • What do you think about Fruity Loops?

  • @Lilac354 Fruity Loops is a different piece of software that's also great. Whatever you find works for you in making your music, learn to use it well and express your creativity.

  • @DubSpot fl is mostly used for hip hop beats.but i agree,if u know how to use a program,it serves u in any style u want to!

  • have you checked out Traktor with the APC40? watch?v=RD1IXOkxOUo

  • @pinoyjustin I don't recommend ableton for production. the native instruments leave a bit to be desired. I would suggest Reason mainly for the simple fact that it looks cool and it is fun to use - this will get you through the first period where there is a very steep learning curve and then when you are confident or looking for something new you can move to ableton, where looks just aren't that big of a deal anymore. Still don't like ableton for producing though but I use it for djing.

  • in your group track for drums you have kick, clap, hats, snare. did you create your drums with a midi track for each sample? i have been using one drum rack for all of my drum sounds.. however when i record audio in the arrangement view i only have one automation envelope where as you have different automation envelopes for each sound and i dont understand how you have achieved this.? thanks.

  • you're voice xD it's funny it's so ' elvis presley' xD

  • @anubiszot haha xDD!!! i imagine a talking reindeer xD

  • what is better fl studio9 or al8??

  • How do you get your Live 8 to appear like that at 1:34 with the separate dashes?

I really need to know :) Thanks in advance

  • @pinoyjustin I Use Fruity Loops, Check my Music Out :)

  • lol what was that ancient version of live?

  • @pinoyjustin ableton you would be more creative on Ableton Live just playing around with the session view you would learn how to make tracks in no time Logic is a great software but the linear way of making music is so uncomfortablet for me thats my case

  • where can you download this programme from ?

  • are you sylverster stallone?

  • wow never mind noob mistake. Just saw the "G" button lol

  • Now how would you do this with the Operator? I did it with the simpler. But i have a specific sound from the operator that i would like to do the same effect with.

  • Now how would you do this with the Operator?

  • Where can i find that pulse sample to practice with please? OR a very similar one?

The sample i'm using sounds like its speeding up

  • Yea he does sound like Coach Mcguirk!! LMAO!

  • Hahahaha... are you H. Jon Benjamin, you sound exactly like Coach McGuirk! Lol.

  • cool sound that makes

  • i really like your sound! but the download link doesn't work... can someone help me??

    thanks

  • @Ole4159 Ireally liked the video... but the AnalogPulseC that I downloaded from the link didn't worked, do any body knows where can I find That AnalogPulse or somenthing similar?

  • I like this technique, but am I right in saying the glide function only appears in Simpler? i.e. I can'y achieve this in a midi clip with say, Nexus, right?

  • glide? should be in practically any synth

  • If you read the Nexus manual they have instructions on how create this sound.

Just go into the mod menu and choose one of the portamento types.

  • Ok thanks bud, I'll have a look at the manual. By the way, didn't you discover DNA?

  • the first 15 seconds sound fukin crzyyyy......

  • Check out:

Dusty Kid - Train No. 1

  • Hey dude, what a great tutorial!!! Many thanks for this very usefull information, I've been looking at how to do this sort of transition between notes and now I know!!! Brilliant, you've made my day! Cheers.

  • Both Reason and Live are great tools and you can do more or less anything you can imagine in either one ( except record audio in Reason ). I also know abunch of people who use both together via Rewire with great results.

    - Michael

  • @DubSpot

    geia sou re mihali!

  • Well i would suggest Reason and abelton really , both great programs, however i use reason mostly and i like it alot , it gives you alot more freedom to do what ever you want but both great programs :)

  • Reason is a toy compared to AL8

  • @Senj1n

    simply, you're an idiot.

  • @Senj1n Because you know how to use both to their full potential, right?

  • @tactical92fs I am working with Ableton since early Vers. 6. I'm using it for live and studio sessions since then. I building my own enviroment such as effect chains and midi setups with it. So yes, I've tried Reason also but it fails in the early steps of a project pointing flexibility and midi. Comparing Ableton with Reason is like comparing your bobby car with K.I.T.T :)

  • @Senj1n Its not the software that makes good music, it's the artist. I know some people who could destroy you with Reason or FL8.

  • Fl Studio 9!!!

  • Ableton

  • I use both ..

Im pretty new to all of this but ive tried reason before..

The this is you can "ReWire" Reason into Ableton so that you can use both

  • its seems to me most builds are chromatic.

  • Can any1 help me to get 4 samples in a group?:(

  • Like when he unfold it, he has the 4 things where he can deactivate en shit:D

  • He's using four different midi tracks to activate the drums. Say you 808 kit in track 1, make 3 more midi tracks, under "IN, AUTO, OFF" you can choose the output, choose 1-808 Kit. Under that you have to choose the output channel, pick the first for one that way it can output all the sounds the drums has. Do this for all the midi tracks you want, and use each track for a specific drum, ie. track 1 bass drum, track 2: snare... It can be confusing but its simple once you get it.

  • cooooooooooooooool !!!!

  • you speak with portugues accent hehe sounds cool!

  • carl sagan's son? just messin, loved the tutorial

  • then i recommend to ad a bit more of release, a sidechain compressor (source: the kick) and maybe a little bit of delay so the end is not so abrupt.

you can put a layer with a whitenoise on top of it and it works really well !

  • Fermixx, could you please help me.

How does he get that drum to unfold in the 4 separate parts which he can deactivate and stuff

  • choose (select) a bunch of tracks (not sure if they gotta be all MIDI) and then right click on any of them on the track label (where the name of the track is) and choose group.

it wont do anything but reduce some space in the interface. you are not merging the tracks and you can later access each particular clip normally (by unfolding first).

if you have live 7 or live 8 le thats not possible. only with live 8 and 8 suite FULL

  • @fermixx

K i got that worked out. But i don't get the same as in the video. How to do that?

  • in the video he's using all midi channels, not samples, thats the difference i think.

if you want to have multiple samples on the same channel, try a drum rack. however theres no time streching when using samples

  • Im using Drum Racks. One of the features of the Drum Rack is that it has a built in "Rack Mixer". It basically allows you to mix elements in a Drum Rack using a Session View mixing style. You can unfold the rack mixer by clickin the unfold triangle on the Track Header that the rum Rack is in.

  • I need some vocals from this guy!!

  • lol yeah sounds like Johnny Cash

  • can we download live sets for this project?

  • Simplers best!

  • I was at one of Mike's trainings at Dubspot this last weekend. This guy knows his stuff and also understands that everyone is different. Awesome class, just $200

  • his voice is well processed.

    but brilliant video

  • This guy's voice is hardcore. Great tutorials.

  • im going to dubspot next week to learn ableton ! :-) sick studio they have very cool enviroment just walking in there was so inspiring especially in NYC

  • not bad but that technique does not guarantee you will hit C at the exact right moment, you have to get the glide time right.

Far easier to use an envelope and then it hits the C perfectly on time

  • These lessons are immense, people pay good money for this shit!!! Do you operate in the UK?

  • another excellent vid -- i can't get enough of these. well done!

  • Legend Mate. Beautifull

  • This is a great video. I just enrolled in the July 18th and 19th Dj'ing with Ableton class. Really looking forward to it...Ableton is great

  • Can I ask how much you paid for this course as i can see on there website that they are quoting $4,750 which is crazy!!!!!!

  • The DJ'ing with Ableton course is a two-day course, which runs at $195.00.

  • ha but its worth it

  • me too but the production one

  • very nice and right to the point!

    Ken_UF
