Just got it last Friday and it has nearly a 1 second delay (not 100ms as Vox says) when switching between channels. Tell this guy on the video to switch channels while playing... you'll know what I mean. It goes silent and then comes back. I mean, WTF?!?! It's a Vox. What makes me really angry is that the amp sounds amazing. Gonna return it on Thursday. Bought an Orange instead. Why am I posting this on Youtube's Vox channel? Well, they didn't even care to reply my complains! Thanks for nothing
I pulled the trigger on one yesterday. Loud, but not as loud as an all tube AC30, but more gain with two OD channels. Gets good gain even at low volumes. Very Brit sounding gain, but that's what they were shooting for. good clean channel. The reverb is digital and leaves you wanting it a bit deeper, but does the job. Seeing as it's SS, would have been easy to add FX loop, but there is no FX loop, Vox went old school on this, modulation effects will have to run front end. Recommended buy.
It has Vox's Valve Reactor circuit like the Valvetronix series, which is a single 12AX7 driven one watt power amp which then drives a solid state power amp, so yes, it has a single tube, much classier looking than the Valvetronix, but no modeling built in. I've tried one out. Not bad sounding, tube like tone, could use an upgrade to better speakers. Sounds like a Vox :-)
@powertothechord It does have one tube man, Its a solid state amp with one tube in the power stage in order to make it louder like a traditional tube amp.
Just played one. . a lot of bang for your buck. I think I could like one of these for a while. . (always getting tired of my gear no matter what it is)!
Magazines cannot contain audio (although some do with attached CD), Youtube can. Different media, different format. If audio is available, why not use it to something meaningful.
@laripsspiral I'm sure Sound on Sound will be heartbroken that you've taken offence to the video. I could understand you if it had said 'Amp Demo', but as it doesn't, it just seems like you're being churlish for little reason.
I'm actually intrigued by the idea of the amp, but even if it were played in this video, it would mean nothing to me. I'd need to see/hear it myself, or at the very worst, get a trusted review of it, the likes of which SOS give.

@GoldtopSam i agree, adding fx would of made it sound like a lesser quality amp.

Really need to hear what these sound like. the clips on the Vox site are promising but the Japanese video is a bit questionable.

In a guitar amp demo it is of uttermost importance to hear how the guys talking about it sound. Well done there.
laripsspiral 2 years ago 13
Who said it's a demo?
And exactly what would be the point of hearing the amp over a small mic in a noisy hall, compressed into a video, played back through PC speakers?
BaloneyPolice 2 years ago 14
I did.
Ok, it doesn't say it's a demo. Call it whatever you want, but it is still pretty boring to hear people just talk about an amp instead of playing it.
And there are NAMM vids that have a decent sound quality, it's not that difficult.
laripsspiral 2 years ago
I guess you don't read Sound On Sound magazine either then, coz it must be really boring just reading about stuff.

That's exactly what they're doing with these videos.
If finding out about new technology doesn't interest you, don't watch the videos.

@BaloneyPolice
I disagree.
And I am interested in new technology, but when it comes to amps, I'm interested in how they sound, not how two blokes chatting about them sound.

Well You're getting a rough idea of what it sounds like, and what it would be if YOU played it, not a mic sitting 2 inches in front of it.
