The bible is the way only to know God. For a greater understanding of His true nature I found the following scriptures especially helpful: Zechariah 14: 1-2 Deuteronomy 22:28-2 Numbers 31:17-18 Leviticus 25: 44-46 Exodus 21:7 Exodus 21: 20-21 1 Peter 2:18 Jeremiah 19: 9 A must read for all.
I liked Zeus fairy tale a lot more than mr. Jesus bread and white creator, and his invisibel father, at least he could send rays... Let's make a comeback! THUMBS UP FOR ZEUS!!!
Horton makes some valid points here, but here is where I think he and many other Evangelicals get it wrong. He makes the point that what Christ would do is being emphasized over what He has done. I agree pertaining to Atonement, but it is important to realize that the two must be reconciled. These two must be understood as one - what He has done shows what He would do and what He intends to do through His body. A focus on the inner self could be rightly be done to learn of Christ Who is in us.
@jerrydoubleu A well researched, thought provoking way to articulate your intellecually stimulating point. You have convinced me sir religion is Stupid. But Horton is not talking about religion. He is saying our north american religion(views of it and ways to put it into practise) is THE problem. He is talking aobut Jesus and the gospel, which has nothing to do with religion
@jerrydoubleu A well researched, thought provoking way to articulate your intellectually stimulating point. You have convinced me sir religion is Stupid. But Horton is not talking about religion. All the "God can only judge" people. You're full of crap ! If someone is slamming lies about your family, you wouldn't do anything? You wouldn't defend them? How would that make you feel? Now you know how we feel !!!!! Sitting back and doing nothing is not the answer either.
2:45 Can't hold it together... watch?v=7YAEWrnOtrY The music, that MURDERED jesus. seriously, being an atheist, this shit is hilarious. watch?v=uqpGPKFSbrg But yeah, more seriously the problem with society today is people thinking for themselves 'focusing internally' instead of receiving god's external message AKA listening to what this douchebag says. Yup, that sounds like the major issue confronting us today. Too many people thinking for themselves. Yup. Definitely. Have To Agree With That
@lubermanl Tell me who do you follow then, because guess what; you've been a follower since you were born.
You followed you're parents to learn how to talk, how to walk and even how to think, so I'd like to know Mr.Existentialist where did you aquire knowledge outside of following others?
@lubermanl I'm currently learning C++ from a book. I have no reason to spend my time looking at my "inner self" to find some mystical answer on how to write a class or a fuction. I accept what the book tells me that someone else wrote according to the method that they used, because that's how knowledge is aquired.
So you can spend your time ignoring the "douchbags" in life and get nowhere. Proverbs 12:1 "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid."
Do you really think people can judge more fairly than the God that created us? How can that be? Maybe we can if we can create a universe. I say maybe... .
Sins? You'll notice that after God gave the commandments He immediately says, " and when you break them, sacrifice a cow, lamb, etc...of course, I'm paraphrasing. The reason for the laws is to teach us- if we think we are so great just live by these rules. We don't even take a breath without God, how can we not habitually sin, without His help. How did you get the ability to judge right from wrong, was it not God? Even Jesus (God in the flesh) prayed continually, and He overcame the world.
Hey, im just trying to learn about the Christian philosophy, but a little stumped with a couple of things. Could use some help, cheers.
The bible says Jesus is "just" and that noone will be judged unfairly. But what about the people born as homosexuals? The very fact that they are born has meant that they have sinned.
Secondly, Jesus says that those who do not follow his ways will go to hell. But what about all those who lived before jesus and obviously had no way of experiencing him?
1) I believe the science of homosexuality is still being debated... we're not sure if your born with it. Plus, being homosexual isn't the sin, its the practice of the homosexual acts (which is a choice).
2) Those who were in "sheol" before Jesus came could not go to heaven, but Jesus allowed them to go to heaven once he came if they lived righteous lives.
3) to buddhaknowsall... what? that analogy doesn't even make sense... Christianity draws heavily on philosophy...
Having same-sex relations is a sin. If people are actually born gay then they should astain from sex. I am straight but I still choose to abstain from sex because of the complications it causes. I don't know if this completely answers and you can message me if it doesn't.
In Jesus saying people who do not follow His ways will go to hell...The Bible isn't incredibly clear about this, but Jesus' death meant as much to people before Him as it does to people after Him.
To address the first point no one is born heterosexual either. Matter a fact, no one is born sexual til they hit puberty. =P Yet all are born sinful one way or the other.
As for the second point; Jesus doesn't say "those who follow my ways" but "those who believe on to me" (a justification by faith, not by works). Also to address the point; if they haven't first heard the gospel then they can't reject what they never heard (Inotherwords there are acceptions) though they be few.
This is a most excellent video. It is precise, well articulated, and very refreshing. The man has said more in five minutes than Joel Osteen has said all year.
At 2:10, yea...prophets sat in desert caves, being filled with the wisdom of God, writing it all down on parchment - century after century - til their sacred scrolls were translated into all languages...
only to have a pastor 3,000 years later say he might include ONE verse AT THE END of his teaching...
reducing the holiest of holy manuscripts to the Pirate Code like Johnny Dep:
They're really more like "guidelines."
What's the line from Bruce Almighty? "Not GUU-ood, not GUU-ood."
Absolutely. My understanding is Dr. Horton's addressing so-called pastors who promote self-help BS & slap Christ's name on it. I used ignore toward Joel Osteen, till I read the Bible & heard him talk. Now I'm dead set against him. In his YT video for his new book, he says: "We've all heard we're poor old sinners saved by grace thru faith & I guess that's true 'IN A SENSE'..." Couldn't believe my ears - the core message of the Gospel he dismisses, yet he speaks in Christ's name. It's BLASPHEMY.
The scary thing about Osteen is, it seems he actually believes the heresy he promotes. At least with Robert Tilton & hacks like that, the facade is obvious. I don't mean Osteen any harm, but he needs to listen to men like Paul Washer & Dr. Horton. I think he was raised in a religious atmosphere, is a "nice" person himself, but he doesn't realize he hasn't been truly saved. Tilton, I could happily stomp in the dirt, but I pray for Osteen. He needs to wake up.
2samuel 24:1-2 God incited david to count the fighting men of israel...1chronicles 21:1-2 satan incited david to count the fighting men of israel.....lol wow...what a contradictions..religion is the greatest lie ever told...
God used satan as the instrument. No contradiction, you just need to learn how the bible was written. It is not contradiction(s) but contradiction because you only assumed one, not more than one.
There must be both creeds/deeds. They are related. A theology of the cross, i.e. not only the suffering of Christ is paramount for the believer but his or her own cross experience. The problem with that historically though was many felt everything they were experiencing was put on them by God. We Christians developed a false piety, not recognizing the authority of the believer. There must be balance, a humble submission to the will of God in Christ, victory over sin, and helping our fellow man.
Why did you portray yourself this way, flailing your arms, extending words' endings, and raising an already amplified voice; where is the calm and collected Horton that I respect? I grow up learning from you; and, now, I am worried that the people who need your message will not hear due to a seemingly ostentatious man, and this attitude used to talking to people, is it one reason why I have notice that the church is lifeless, teachers void of humility; not you.
OK, so are you saying you're upset because Horton is demonstrative and passionate in his presentation? The apostle Paul pleaded with people, often to the point of tears (2. Cor 2;4; Phil 3:18). The fact is, Joseph, that the people who need to hear this message are MOST affected by emotion nowadays and thus will probably listen more, not less, than if he were dry as a seminary lecture.
The devil has seldom done a cleverer thing than hinting to the church that part of their mission is to provide entertainment for the people, with a view to winning them . . . providing amusement for the people is nowhere spoken of in the Scriptures as a function of the church . . . the need is for Biblical doctrine, so understood and felt that it sets men aflame.

it has ALWAYS been the case that "strait is the gate and narrow is the way AND FEW THERE ARE WHO FIND IT"
thus popular "spirituality" has ALWAYS been christless for the majority of church people have ALWAYS been christless.
they want to be told to DO as to believe is something they cannot get their head around believing.
why is this speaker so surprised? because he thinks the past was godly. it NEVER was. read some history

there always has been "christless christianity", for there alway has been a christianity without the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit of who? CHRIST!!
we do not live our creeds as we do not believe them
Besides the to do list is the core of church legalism, and this has been endemic for millenia.
just read some history and see that this, being nothing new, is nothing to be outaged about.
the only difference: rules for eternity versus rules for NOW

And God created them, and knows all.
The ppl of old had to follow the law.
Look for Chuck Smiths work, he makes it easy to understand.
Oh and people are not born homosexual, that is something that people came up with, to justify the sinful behavior.
Also, check out John MacArthur he is great too.
