wow lota dumbass comments on this rifle...............what kind of ammo have u used?? does she chew an spit out ne thing u run threw her??? ive seen this rifle hit at 800yards with a acog with more energy than a 44mag at point blank range..and a noob hit 300yards like it was normal..navy seals an soldiers in afganstain use this weapon.....so why are people saying that its a short inacurate pos?? sounds like a city boy that cant handle a gun...watch hickok45 that fucker does 1/8th mile shoots.
@Blago6actual Again with u and ur so called M1A's, lets see some vids of you shooting these rifles you saw u have. U have no F-ing idea what ur talking about. Ur gay ass pages has games on it not one rifle. not even u in a real plane. put up or shut the F@#$ up u wanna be. I hate people like u, who think u know everything. go sit on ur ass and play your video games some more.
P.S. Come on out to my range and stand 300 yards out and let me take a shot at u. Put ur money where ur mouth is!!
....the verticle forend grip guarantees "canting" of the rifle....combined with the chopped barrel, I doubt you could hit me at 100 yards....I bet the POS won't group under 2" at 100yds on the bench....what a waste.
I own (2) Alan Baker M1As.....one is a match service rifle, the other an E2, bipod scoped killer.
@Blago6actual Its a Short barreled rifle dunbass, its not ment for long range shooting. I bet u couldn't shoot a 10 inch group at 50 feet with ur so called "Match Rifles". They still have the same accuracy as a full size M1A but a lower muzzle velocity and shorter range then the 22 inch barrel. U don't use a 28 inch barreled shotgun for home defense u use an 18 inch. same thing with the SOCOM II and 16.
It is about 10 pounds, and it is a 16" barreled M1A with a muzzle brake and 4 way rails. Mine is out fitted like the one in the video except I don't have a forward pistol grip. If you search for SOCOM rapid fire in the snow a little vid of me emptying a 20 round mag in the snow shows how it hits fairly accurately shooting 3-4 rounds per second.
I have an identically equipped SOCOM 2 (save the forward pistol grip which would make it an assaut rifle here in Cali, but I have 20 round pre ban mags) and love it. No recoil, tears the black out of the target at 100 yards with the EOTech on it, but is no tack driver (I got a 300 Win Mag Remington Police for long range tack driving), and it is 100% reliable for me with 5 different loads I've tried. I love that gun!
There's nothing wrong with it if your standing at a range and shooting at paper and that is your only intention of ever useing a weapon. However if your moveing thru a house, or urban terrain in a combat situation there are a number of problems with chicken winging. I was always taught to train like you fight, hence chicken wing = bad.
Infantryman...I was trained to be the first man in the door, the last man in the door and every role inbetween. Only roles I never filled were RTO, PL or PSG
Used bird shot, 00 buck whatever we were given..but we never used it to clear rooms, last man in the stack would use it to blow off door hinges/kick door...1st man in was usually carrying an M4.
cuz the shotgun is usually the last guy in, andyour right, it would/is very effective but a lot of guys preffer the M4 b/c its easier to control, quicker follow up shots, quicker re-loads and it holds more per reload.
SOCOM 16 and SOCOM II have a 16" barrell. Scout has an 18" barrell and the standard has a 22" barrell. I paid $1800 a couple of years ago. Haven't priced them lately.
the site that springfield armory directed me to said that i should pay about $1600-2000, which im going to make this summer working with my dad for fireworks... the SOCOM seems pretty interesting, ill have to look up more info on it
I don't think it's very bad at all, but that is somewhat of a subjective question. It depends a lot on the individual shooter and their technique and stance.
What are your groupings like with it. I would like a Socom but I haven't heard much about its accuracy. I would imagine decent for a 16 inch barrel. It is a springfield.
I haven't benched it and measured groups, but accuracy is very good out to 100 yards. I haven't pushed it beyond that as I have other rifles for that purpose. Obviously the accuracy increases with the longer barelled Scout (18") and the full size M1A's (22").
I like it, I don't have any problem keeping my support arm tucked in. It's obviously not as comfortable as a AR or something similar with a pistol grip though.
It would make an awesome deer gun up to 100yrs like NorCalR32 said. Anything beyond that would probably want to be done with a longer barrel. The .308 round is a good deer round too, any larger game you would want a 30-06 or .300 winmag.
I really love this gun. But I have more than a few that will beat this gun at 50 yards, 100 yards, all the way out to 600 yards, with the right shooter. (Me)
id like to get an m1a but its a little pricy for me. next gun on my list is a springfield armory gi .45 and hopefully ill have it by the end of this coming summer.
this gun is one mean son of a bitch, 1700 for it too. oh by the way whoever was askin about the 6.8, the gun has the accuracy of the .223 but the power of the 7.62x39.
I'm in the market for a new rifle and would like your thoughts on this one? I've been looking at it and I'm stuck between this and building another AR-15 in 6.8 SPC. I do like the feel of Garand rifles (I own an M1) How's the accuracy and how about the recoil? I've no personal experience with EO-techs how are they compared to Aimpoints?
I love my SOCOM. I like the the .308WIN cartridge and shorter length. I've never handled an AR in 6.8 SPC so I can't comment on that. If you like the feel of the Garand though, this may be the way to go for you. As you know, the action and controls on an M14/M1A are all VERY similar to that of a Garand. The main exception being of course that the former is magazine fed while the latter has an 8 round top-loading clip.
Accuracy is great out to 100 yards. I have no real reason to push it out beyond there as that is not the intended purpose for my purchasing this rifle. I have my EOTech zeroed at 50 yards.
Recoil is very managable, but I must warn you, this rifle is heavy compared to a 5.56mm AR. A lot of times when I hand the SOCOM to people the first thing the comment on is it's weight. It doesn't bother me, but it may be a concern for some. Also, I am very happy with my EOTech. I looked closely at the other options for red-dot sights, but felt the EOTech was the way to go for me. Good luck with whatever you decide.
It's similar. The Springfield Armory M1A is their civilian market version of the M14. The action is very similar to that of a Garand. The main difference is the Garand is 30-06 and is fed by a top-loading 8-round clip, the M1A/M14 is a detachable magazine fed .308WIN.

CANTING
...Your chopped and F'd-up M1A is the perfect model for "canting" of the weapon, bad sight-alignment....what a dumb-assed gun to own.
If you want a real M1A, get one.
