Chain casting is also slightly faster by using an AI character to cast, as you don't have to wait for the recovery animation. But, it looks like this midge-method may be even better. Nice.

Thunder Saber is one of those that's probably only good if you're attacking something with a weakness to it.

@YeUndone Actually SoM was originally planned to be a game for what was going to be a CD add-on for the SNES. The plan was dumped, and were forced to convert it to cartridge, limiting the amount of mem. the game could use. This is also why only a max of 3 Game objects (chests, townsfolk, and monsters) are on the screen at a time. In addition, the type of font that was used to display text in the game caused dialog to be stripped to its bare essentials. Just enough to get the story moving.

Holy crap, that Midge Mallet trick is PHENOMENAL. I didn't expect to learn anything from this LP series (I've played through this game so many times in both Japanese and English), but boy, did I. So far, I can count three things: a different plan of action for getting all three characters, having your weapon out while grinding magic, and now the Midge Mallet trick.

And I'm only a third of the way through the LP... Great job!

You got to remember secret of mana is a game created for super nintendo, in a time where games werent cencored to death. Basically if secret of mana was made today, it would of had a different name..... dam game cencors now adays :(

Yeah, this is the first time I'm ever heard someone say that censorship in video games in the U.S.A. is worse now than in 1993. Maybe if you're 12 it's worse now, cuz they card people for games at crappy shops like GameStop. Otherwise... seriously? The crosses on the hospitals were removed from Earthbound because it looked like a religious reference to NoA (lol)! All female enemies were removed from Final Fight! Blood was replaced with sweat in Mortal Kombat! The list goes on and on.

In the PAL version, if you use Analyzer on a chest, it will NEVER be a trap chest. Not sure if that was a bug or something cause I know that ain't the case in the NTSC version but that's the way it is. It's pretty neat! :D

I did a new file and discovered a new strategy. The level 3 bow is effective against animals/birds/beasts. It will literally hit the bird like 90% of the time if your bow is a high enough level. Later on the Javelin upgrade also has that affect and both weapons work well on the Kimono Wizards.

In the enhanced version of the game it is revealed that the king really pushed you to get the dragon so he could have vengeance on the great viper that ate the last king. The mushroom that calls Truffle reckless tells you this info and that the king was desperate.

There is a rom out there where the dialog was enriched and the story makes much more sense. The dialog in the original version does say a viper ate the last king and shows the king as pushy to get flammie but the enchanced version shows it alot better and makes sense out of the alot of the nonsense dialog.

Hack where the dialog from the English version is rewritten (but not retranslated!) to say more. Make up your own mind as to whether that's a good thing, or just plain tampering.

Oh, and the Jpn version does mention the dead former king (in the sense of Truffle taking after him as a good ruler), but it's obviously the parent of the dragon that was killed by the snake.

I love how in Seiken Densetsu III there's Mushboom-like enemy called "Darth Matango".

And by the way, the enemies later in the game are actually called "Needlions"...they're one of the most feared enemies in the game, in my opinion.

It's been a while since I've played SoM. Can you cure status ailments(other than death obviously) with two applications of the Midge Mallot like you can in SD3(since you can only have one status ailment in SD3)?

Granted, medical herbs are usually faster, but it might be an interesting thing to point out anyway.
