this truck is gorgeous...my '07 GL 450 is such a disappointment, I'm trading it in for either the new GC or the Durango. Legendary Hemi engine bolted on a Mercedes chassis, 4-matic or quadra AWD system? Yes please!
Once Chrysler/Dodge or what ever you want to call them learns to bring the diesel engine to the US market than I will buy one but until then I'll stick with my big 4x4 diesel trucks. Thanks but no thanks.
Look at the video at :23 seconds. It clearly shows "4WD LOW" on the dial. So yep. It does have low range. I'm not sure about the locking diff, though.
Thank God Jeep didn't take the GC down market as far as Ford did with the Explorer. I don't think anyone, even Jeep die-hards, would have tolerated a wrong-wheel-drive GC with a sideways mounted engine!! Jeep is still the one and only best SUV in the world! Ford might as well just shut down Explorer production now before they get embarassed any more...
@tjhaywood100 Even the stupid employees at Ford said the new Explorer was for soccer mom's and not off roaders anymore. I have seen 2 where I live and have been disgusted that people actually buy it.
@a7x5631 I know. If you'll notice, all the factory '11 Explorer videos have women describing it while all the Jeep vids have men. That's the difference. Men designed the GC while women designed the Explorer. That's why the '11 Ex is a cheesy, wrong-wheel-drive, watered down, emasculated version of its former self while the GC is better than ever!
@The1andonlyBYack I've been calling it a 'navi' sice the first one hit the market over a decade ago...and so do millions of others. But you can call it whatever you'd like!
This is Chrysler not Ford.....it can tow 6200 lbs....get it right and no the Quadra Drive II is available for all models.....you can get the 5.7L Hemi on any model as an option as well!
The only misspeak I noticed was that the Garmin Nav is not an "after marker" rig, instead it's actually a software package added to the same head unit. You can get no nav, with the screen as shown in the review, a Garmin nav software package which is truly the best option, or Jeep's more proprietary nav software which is worse in its execution, however, adds some voice features that the Garmin level doesn't have. Skip the voice and go with the Garmin level, for sure.
Drove this and a new VW Touareg. The VW has much more steering feel, grip, and better handling on the road. It's also more expensive and our local VW dealers at least have a terrible reputation. This is a great vehicle if you really do go off road. It looks great, most crossovers do not. But based purely on function there are probably better vehicles out there for overall costs of operation and performance (Acura MDX, etc). Still, this is a surprisingly nice vehicle.
@austinman1995 Mostly because people don't know where to go for aftermarket products. But the Chrysler nav package with standard nav features also includes a 30 GB hard drive for music/video storage, CD/DVD player, Bluetooth, Sirius satellite integration, and Aux and USB inputs that let you rip CDs and transfer data from flash drives, etc. I'm probably not looking hard enough, but right now I'm hard-pressed to find an aftermarket system that has EVERYTHING rolled up into one svelte unit.
@UInACrash SUVs still have a market; there a just certain things a small or midsize vehicle cannot do when one has a family. It wasn't until recently that Americans realized that smaller vehicles do exist and are viable - very cache.
good review. they did a nice job on this truck. mercedes hand me downs aren't so bad.

Do they build press cars just for that use? or are they sold?
steve9509 1 year ago
@steve9509 Some are purpose-built just for press fleets. After about 10,000 miles they either go to the crusher or up for sale within the company.

Sad that the most "important" product in the Chrysler lineup group gets under 22mpg and costs over $30,000 lol...
Not knocking the GC (it looks amazing) but when is Chrysler ever going to be viable making small and midsize cars again?
