  • but do all these people see and taste the same thing? or does it differ from person to person? Makes me wonder about how stuff in the bible is related to color like law/commandments and sapphire - the original 10 commandments were carved out of the sapphire throne of God.

  • I love D flat major because it's a dark bronze and reminds me of night. It's my favourite key. C sharp minor is dark blue mixed with grey and is a very intense key. E major is a sky blue.

  • its almost like they're flirting. "oh, your name tastes like cake ;D" how cool

  • ohh menn, why can't i be a superhuman

  • I give numbers personalities.3 is happy.8 is smart.7 is cool.And so on.

  • thats awesome....

  • its like acid lol

  • I don't project like she does, but as an associative synesthete, I can see the colors in my mind's eye. Only with words and letters, days of the week, months, and sounds (Most musical, some not). I love it. I don't feel weird. I feel privileged.

  • "it doesn't go very nice with cake"

  • she's like that woman in Heroes

  • Lsd effect.

  • @LambiMovement :)):)))

  • I so want to have that ability.

  • Wow! Is this next step in evolution? It would be so amazing experience the world in this way. They should compose a song full of sweet tastes and beautiful colors. :)

  • oh thanks yeah i figured it out but who is that singer? she sounds amazing

  • @starseedfrompl o mio babino caro is the name

  • Can some one tell me the name of that opera song please

  • Can some one tell me the name of that opera song please

  • Tihs String Theory

  • I think being able to see colors with music would be so cool. Not so much the taste, because if I was eating and listening to music/people speaking, it would probably taste weird.

  • LSD GIVES A NORMAL PERSON THE SAME ABILITY. IT'S THE % OF BRAIN FUNCTION THAT IS ACTIVE

  • Mine, if I actually have it, is triggered by timbre primarily. Timbre creates colors and textures in my mind's eye. Key and rhythm play part as well. Also - when I ate psilocybin mushrooms, I could actually see the music in front of me.

  • I have a mild version of this too. Its not as strong as the person in this video though. I do not see colors to music with my eyes open, but if I am relaxed and have my eyes shut I get closed eye visuals, and the colors I see I 've found out relate directly to the pitches and chords used.

Major keys are brighter and minor keys are darker, A minor is red and G major is green. The colors tend to merge inbetween these.

  • @Maverik987654321 i think thats normal. you have to see while your eye is open meaning you see it as in overlay.

i cant say you are wrong, you may have it mild at lease a little more than average people.

everything is related in our mind, sound, feels, taste, sight and emotion is all related. some may have it more than others.

  • @Maverik987654321 Fantastic! I don't know is that just a usual thing, but i can see that too, and the same colours as you said for A and G! Please, contact me to exchange expirience. :)

  • I have sound-sight synesthesia too !

  • yeah, these numbers aren't right.. I have synesthesia, and I know for a fact that there are way more people in the world that have sound -> sight synesthesia.

  • LSD.

  • @whytheturtles skittles! Yeah. I think she's on drugs

  • aawww freaks love it! So sweet, how does my name taste? Pinapple? Sugarplum? DDDDD

  • SHE CAN TASTE THE RAINBOW

  • I bet country music tastes like crap.

  • she should take shrooms. i bet that would be AMAZING

  • @TokeTiliChoke420 Theres actually a book by Swizz Author Urs Weber that actually thematiszes that!

  • If I said poop what would you taste?

  • Can you guys imagine if the two synesthetis make out? It must be quite of an experience!

  • porn music, give her pooooooooooooooooorn musiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic! X'D

  • I have mild synaesthesia. I associate people with colours, when I see the person I see a colour. If I think about that person, the colour comes to mind. I don't see it as any kind of disorder, I think it's pretty cool :D

  • @Disenchantress1 You see their auras. :D

  • One wonders how she'd react to Messiaen (who wasn't a synesthete but did nonetheless strongly associate pitch aggregates with colors).

  • @Christi12star omg totally ! i hate that!

  • when was this made? i can taste and see music! i can also "read" people and see their emotions

  • do synaesthetes really see colors like THAT 0:42 - 1:00?

  • I have always felt that numbers had genders, do synthesesians have that sense?

  • she can see the colours of the wind (:

  • Wonder what dubstep looks like :D

  • @Christi12star I KNOW!!! IT IS ALWAYS WRONG!!! IT IS ANNOYING!

  • I have this, and it is very strange to know that not everybody see colors like me. I'm 14 and just found out.

  • beautiful

glad to know there are more people like this

  • "There are fewer than a thousand in the world who see colour with tone" what do they base this on? It seems like a ridiculously low number. I bet you could find more than a thousand in America alone.

People just don't think about it when they have it and so they stay under the 'scientific radar'.

  • @80Cetbal08 I have mild synthesesia to a point. I can physically feel music inside my body and I see the shapes and colors when I close my eyes with every harmony and string of notes. Synthesesia is also when people associate colors to numbers and time. I have 2 friends who have it. One of them will remember dates and numbers flawlessly because they're a color sequence, not just a number sequence. There is SO much more to it than said in this video. SO much more.

  • @80Cetbal08 You're right. The Wikipedia article on synesthesia says that as many as 1 in 23 persons has some form of synesthesia. This video is not very objective - it is exaggerating and being sensational.

  • there's also number synesthia where numbers can have shapes, colors and textures. My sister has this and when she told me casually the shape and color of certain numbers, I had to tell her that most people just see numbers. Very gifted gal :)

  • Wonder what Rebecca Black's Friday taste

  • @KrinkleZzZ1 ewww that must taste like crap! XP

  • wow, she is so lucky.

  • This is an estrodinary genetic evolution that I am sure many humans would love to have. Me especially

  • I have this but my dyslexia makes it hard to remember stuff, so this is a generalisation.

  • im jealous...its looks amazing

  • i have synesthesia, i also see sound, i always see the lines that are in the background of a media player, or dubstep lines i love it

  • what does it taste like?

  • I wonder what dubstep looks like

  • I WANT THIS

  • Comment removed

  • AMAZING!!! WANT!!!!!!!!!

  • weed does that too :)

  • I'm going to go up to someone and say 'Your name tastes like cake." :D

  • Actually, there are much more synaestets than said in this movie, just they don't know they are. Because I also didn't know, because I thought everyone can hear colors. And I also don't think that she is unique, I talked with a few who have the same connections she has... I think synaestetik is not so special like they try to make you think...

  • I think the word-tasting guy was hitting on her! Ha ha. "Let's go to an opera..." Love connection, for sure! :)

  • She has a lovely accent when she speaks English. :) I wish I'd grown up in a country where nearly everyone is bilingual. I wonder how her native language "looks" to her.

  • I see numbers as personalities.

  • wonder how heavy metal would taste

  • @lifemetall LIKE ASS

  • @Arbejderne thats what an uneducated troll would say

  • Comment removed

  • @lifemetall it would taste of awesome

  • I see music, too. The colors are in music and colors, most definitely. If the colors clash, I get agitated. I can taste words. Not music, but words. My name, Derek, tastes like wood. The number eight tastes like eggs. Seven is orange, and tastes like a popsicle.

Numbers and letters also have personalities. This was the only way I could do math as a kid.

  • I really wish I could do this

  • What's with the fart obsession on here? It seems like every fifth or sixth post is some Beavis wannabe asking "what's a fart taste like lol"

I think the people who actually think that's some awesome thing to ask should eat some beans, drop some acid, and quit asking the same damn question here.

  • @SailorBarsoom Believe it or not, some farts have color for me. My dog's farts are usually a dark, brackish yellow, and the association with such an ugly color grosses me out even more!

  • @MrDwilly

Are you seeing sound, or smell?

I'm not really surprised that some farts have color, or texture, or whatever. I'm just questioning the rather disturbingly large number of people who, upon learning that synaesthetes exist, immediately think, "at last! somebody who can tell me what a fart tastes like!!"

Is that really the best thing they can ask?

  • @Whackydoodle

Certain drugs, like LSD or psilocybin, can do it for the length of the trip.

  • I'm amazed at the number of people who keep saying

    this isn't real

    they're lying

    it's all bullshit

Apparently, the entire medical community, in all parts of the world, is engaged in a vast international, mufti-generational conspiracy to make us think that synesthesia is real, even though it isn't. Oh, and the LSD trippers and Native American Church are in on it too.

    Yes, that's much easier to believe than that somebody might experience a taste sensation when listening to music. {roll eyes}

  • @raflim

It's one of the things I'm hoping for, should I ever get around to tripping.

  • @megadude07

  • @beebunnie

You're born with it or you're not is my understanding. Certain drugs, like mescaline or LSD, can induce it in people who normally don't experience it.

  • @musicaabimopectore

I saw a man on TV back in the 80s. He sees colors with sounds, but it only blocks his vision in certain rare cases. The Emergency Broadcast signal, that loud high tone, causes him to see nothing but orange.

  • pick up line james never thought he'd use: "you taste music and i can taste words.. i was thinking we should go to an opera or something" sneaky bastard! haha their kids could enroll in prof. xavier's school!

  • @diazepam fuck! i thought the same!!!! lol

  • imagine her stoned

  • Mmmyummy creamy minor 6th

  • So if she can basically eat music... everytime she takes a shit the toilet turns into a concert?

  • ha well i can see throo glass! :P

  • I have the same ability when I drop acid.

  • omg that is so amazing!!

  • LSD 24/7

  • @Dudewhathef Yeah man, its fuckin LSD no fucking doubt, this show is a joke, they don't know they got played

  • @Knowwon249

It isn't LSD. People can acquire temporary synesthetic experiences with LSD, but there are hundreds of synesthetes who've never taken LSD and still see sound and taste smells and personify objects. I have two kinds, I know a couple of people with over 10 kinds of synesthesia. I've never taken LSD or any hallucogenic or dissociative drug.

  • @Dudewhathef

    Not really.

  • that final meeting of the synthaesthetes sounds like a subreddit

  • what does Dubstep look like !?!

  • @ff939606 For me Dubstep usually has lots of dark colors. Tons of deep purples and blues. Almost black. Some bright yellows. That's not to say the rest of the colors aren't there though. It really depends on the song. Hope that helps! :)

  • Comment removed

  • Damn, I have that color-image synaesthesia but only images in my head. I can't imagine what it would be like to actually see it in front of you. How distracting :|

  • @unfairvideogame For me it looks like the snowy screen on TVs. Except for the different colour depending on the song.

  • She must have a "good taste" in music ;)

  • @ilovetocmmt ROFL

  • @pyro1254 saw it instantly was it supposed to be hard?

  • All of these five senses are but the one sense of feeling. We do not have five senses. Seeing is a sensation of feeling light waves through our eyes. Hearing is a sensation of feeling light waves through our ears. Tasting and smelling are sensations of feeling light waves reacting upon mouth and nostrils.

All variation in sense of feeling is due to a difference of electric conditioning in pulsing wave matter.

  • @TheDoveLady Wrong.

  • so thats why people throw up on bad music! it tastes so bad

  • hloy shit im like them i can see music and i taste things when i lsten to it

  • This woman could be an AWESOME musician.

  • @moonfireknight

Me too!! I asked my sister (cuz she like crazy about it) and she said that she wanted my brain lol

  • I wish...for her.....to throw up Solja Boy and Waka Flaka.

  • i have this, 24/7 party. i always see numbers/letters in color

  • A 24/7 acid trip....lucky

  • This is really amazing stuff.... I would love to be able to have this special power!

  • @LadyMayalee - I'm a synesthete, and I can tell you it's not a "power." It's an easily explainable phenomena that occurs in the brain, and it just so happens that not as many people experience it as to be deemed "common." It's no more a "special power" than, say, a musician having perfect pitch. To assign the word "power" implies it's something magical, which it's not. But it is, indeed, interesting to experience! :-)

  • Play her some John Cage and see what happens

  • i wonder what heavy metal would look like

  • @UnfareVideogame - I love death metal. Different songs look different, depending on the band and song. Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Therion, Theatre of Tragedy, Opeth and Cynic are particularly interesting - probably because they're more "etherial." Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Vital Remains, Morbid Angel, Nile, etc. produce something a little different - "thicker."

  • well if she didn't find out till she was 16 i still have time :D YEY

  • The "facts" of this video are a bit off . For example, many thousands of people have many different types of synesthesia, and it's not as rare as this video claims. Also, synesthesia is not a "power", nor mysterious. Vilayanur Ramachandran has excellent lectures on it.

As a synesthete myself, I really appreciate the illustrations of sensory experience in the video. At times it matches my experience, and other things differ. Interesting vid, nonetheless!

  • I'm not crazy everybody's favorite color of the alphabet is the number blue. :P

  • Comment removed

  • That´s what tripping LSD is like...

  • @Bistol1 i wonder what she sees when shes hears shpongle? or aphex twin :)

  • I like how everyone who commented on this video just happens to have synesthesia >.>

  • @cat563 ikr?

  • @cat563 I guess that people with Synesthesia tend to go out and search for these kinds of videos, to learn more about their condition. As for us 'normal' people, we tend to just stumble upon things like these occasionally, and maybe not even be bothered to comment. Just saying. :D

  • LAMMME IF IT WASNT FOR THIS VIDEO NOONE WOULD OF EVER CARED LOLZ JK

  • fuck i can do that too! i'm the 501th one in the world shit i always knew i was amazing, im not joking!

  • @MsLAB24 BS

  • ...really uncomfortable ;p Having to write this date so many times at school wasn't a pleasant thing. But 8 is so nice. It's round & smooth, and greenish-blue. All the even numbers are "good". And the last thing - memory. Well, I can't complain. Especially about numbers - I know all my friends and members' of family adresses, phone numbers, dates of birth. I used to memorize whole pages from books just for fun. And poems. I really don't learn them - they just come into my mind. IguessThat'sAll=]

  • ...that I like Thursday and hate Tuesday but in fact there was no particular reason for it... Now I know it's because Thursday has got a calming blue shade and Tuesday is filthy brown. Moreover, I like "playing" with numbers, e.g. on number plates (my mom does it too). There's something really special about each number for me. I hate uneven numbers, especially 9. It's so...uncertain I would say. As if it was going to collapse any moment. It makes me wanna cry. In the year 1999 I felt really...

  • ...because they're pointed, sharp, unpleasantly smooth, metal. cold and so bright that I feel pain in my eyes. Just as if a sharp blade with blinding light reflected in it was stuck in my eyeball. Well, it must sound weird... =] What's more, I can see words written in front of me but unfortunately they're colourless :( I can also see numbers fixed in a special order before my eyes. The same with days of a week and months and they're a little bit coloured. I have always said that I like..

  • I can see music, but not only colours - I can see shapes and feel its texture as well. Sounds make me picture a kind of 3D composition that moves a little. Something like modern art painting ;) That's why it's hard for me to read while listening to music because the picture that the sounds create in front of my eyes blurs the text... Low sounds are beautifully brown-maroon and velvet or furry, soft, sometimes nicely rough and usually round. High notes are the ones I strongly dislike because...

  • @PepeInRedAndGreen you're luckyyy. i really wanna be a synaesthete :D

  • heroes...

  • I have this condition all my life. I associate Letter and numbers as man and woman. I can remember doing this in my kindergarden class sitting in my little chair. I actually have told people and they put me to a test. I never get it wrong but I thought it was normal quote ME:A is a girl B is a girl too (although B is for Boy) C is a boy etc as I see all word in my mind I quickly see the letter male and female...

  • 9:50 - 9:59 - ''your Surname is tomatoe katchup, and it doesn't go very well with cake' - ( Her name tasted like a thick cake : from earlier when they met). I want to be Sick now! heheh ( Kidding, am happy the way GOD made me)

  • I bet those two got married

  • No wonder Bieber's music tastes like shit..

  • @okinsky LOL

  • @okinsky delete this idiotic comment ! you americans, with no sense of humor

  • @TetrapakProdzekt delete your idiotic account.. and mind your own business..

  • I have Synesthesia. It definetly makes life more interesting. Love it...

I really cannot imagine a world where the word "Locker" isn't male, the emotion curiousity isn't sea green, or where my right hand isn't a lucky, down-to-earth female.

  • 14 people are neanderthals

  • You people should note that synesthesia is NOT ALWAYS a good thing...

  • I bet Justin Biebers music tastes like dog poo

  • anyone can say they smell colors or taste sounds

  • Thats funny...isn't this what acid enables you to do?

  • she ll trip balls if she smokes or do shrooms

  • THE LANGUAGE OF HYPERSPACE

  • @leachim04 - ha! I just noticed that there are 665 comments here, and I'm the iconic 666, and here you are asking me about 6. Did you do that on purpose? ha. I actually see 6 as jet black, and a tricky fellow. But most synnies have a unique set of colors (& sometimes personality) for each grapheme. However, there are a lot of RED A's and WHITE O's out there, and I don't think there's an explanation for that! My O is white, but my A is light blue/green.

  • @leachim04 - hmm, 11 is my fave number because I love the sound, and it's crystally silver-white, and then I like how 3478 looks together, aqua blue, seafoam green, light warm yellow and muted red blending into the yellow like a tequila sunrise. Then this is a rainbow for me (ROYGBIV): CQTG43 - minus the Indigo/Violet - I have no purple anywhere in my graphemes! bummer. =P

  • I wann be vampire cause it power! and white teeth!

  • I have it, and I was shocked to learn not everyone does. My long term memory is amazing and I shock friends w/ details of their childhood that I remember, such as their phone numbers and birthdays, girl scout troop numbers, etc. (I'm 49.) Some shy away from me, because I guess this isn't something most people remember, and they wonder by what means I obtained the information. It is just an extra mnemonic coming to my aid, my wonderful world of colored numbers and letters.

  • I have sight/sound sound/sight sound/feel feel/vision

smell can make vision, but not so often... like light. No taste no letters turning colours.. I forget written words and numbers easily but I never forget a colour.

  • this video tasted like cake.

  • @cabouaf the cake is a lie

  • great video but what noone says about synesthesia is how annoying and ridiculously useless it is to have.
