@TheCheshireCat3D The opportunity to meet people is always good, no matter the form. You never know what that could lead to. Meeting people that have similar interests, or friends in common, that's nice - and it's not always the easiest IRL. It can be seen as a negative thing, or as an opportunity to discover new people with whom you could later hang out IRL? Also, if i'm going to travel somewhere, it could be a more engaging way to meet people that will be there when I arrive.
@Sunkadinka I agree that virtual social interactions are great for meeting people of the kind that you can't meet otherwise, such as people from abroad, but thats different from staying the evening in your room chatting in a virtual pub instead of going out to a real one.

This is a horrible initiative. Social networking should augment real life social interactions by connecting people and making it easier to communicate and set up real-life meetings, not replace them. I dread the day real life social meetings will be replaced with virtual ones.
@TheCheshireCat3D Hey, I wouldn't worry about anything virtual replacing real life... There are needs that simply cannot be satisfied behind a computer. Shaker is about making your time spent on Facebook more fun. Hope this calms you :)
@ShakerApp Thanks for the mature reply and sorry for my harsh words earlier. My opinion does still hold though, I wish Facebook and other social networks would take a smaller part in people's lives, and initiatives like this seem to encourage the opposite.
@TheCheshireCat3D Dude, I don't agree! I don't think it will replace anything. You spend hours every day on facebook, doing nothing. With this product you'd spend those same hours being social and meeting new peopel. Yes, it's not innovative - Virtual Chat have always existed. But adding the Social Layer to it was a great Idea. @Sunkadinka Basically you're justifying this activity by presuming that people are already performing some other, even more unproductive activity, and that the other activity will be replaced by this one. I find it to be a rather weak argument. Like V3G wrote above me, Facebook is great for maintaining social connections, but when one uses it instead of actively going outside and physically meeting people, it is becoming rather sick in my opinion.

I don't see it as a way to REPLACE real life social interaction, but i see as a way to improve and add to what is already possible. it's not because i go on a virtual chat that i am going to become solitary and stop talking to people IRL. I don't know where or who you are... but this video has given us the possibility to discuss and "meet" each other in some type of form. Adding a real layer to this, I say... Why not?
@Sunkadinka We each have a set of desires that we need to satisfy and we have a selection of things to satisfy them with. Take hunger for instance. When one is hungry, if one eats junkfood, on will be less hungry and will end up eating less healthy food as well since one's belly is already somewhat full.
Its the same with social interactions, if you feel like interacting with people at the moment but you sit in a virtual chat instead of going out, then you just missed going out.

Have you never been home alone with the impossibility to go out and felt bored and needing social interaction? But it's not possible all the time, so why not provide people with a new way to do so. I reacted towards the negativity against such a project, which i found to be quite positive
@Sunkadinka I don't agree that FB is more accessible physically than going out and meeting people. Sure it takes more time and maybe more courage, but theres never a situation where one wants to go out and meet people but one truly physically cant so instead one stays at home using FB. Its always done out of bad habits, fear etc. and not out of physical lack of ability (unless one is disabled or very sick or so but these are extreme cases)
This video is pure genius. Dont care much for the product, but I can clearly see the value from this video.
