  • any tabs? *drools*

  • I really like the harmonics.

  • Hi guys,

great version of my favourite tune, what its the bouzouki tuned to for this?

    Cheers

  • Nice work guys. Try putting St. Anne's, Cooleys and the High Reel (n A major) together, it is a great combination. Guitar wise, have you thought about a semi open Am7 / Bm7 / C /D / Em progression. Works nicely on this and indeed on most Em based tunes. Ships are Sailing is another good one for it. Keep it up, hope we can get to jam some time.

  • Love the guitar work there. Well done.

  • hey man,

  • I really love this melody, and you guys play it as thought as you really were the ones that created it. Very well done...

  • Wooh, really nice! :D

    I love it!

  • Nice one dude..

    I love this reel

  • Thanks for the chords newfiefiddler. I have to learn more about harmony. I found the traditional chords. But your choices sound WAY better.

    Here are the original:

    em/em/D/D

    em/em/D,G/D,em: x4

    used for A&B sections.

  • This is so cool. I haven't played guitar for over 30 years but this video made me pull out an old guitar out of the closet and (attempt to) strum along. Great rhythm. Good job also the picker and bodhran player.

  • What are the original chords to this tune? And what are the substitutions used here? This version sounds so different. I'm just learning chords, so I can't figure it out.

    Thanks.

  • I'm not sure of the original chording for this piece.... straight up it could be played with simply Em and D but doing so does not compliment it in the best manner..... another YouTuber suggested I substitute the Am with Cm7.... I play it using Em D Am Bm C D

  • @kidgloves2 try traditionalmusic.co.uk (not mine!!)

  • Ya Got me jumpin in with ma feadog D fellaz,

Way cool `Ceol' ya got there.....

  • great job. other people in the store look they like it too, but they are afraid you're going to put a tip jar out or something. (don't make eye contact!)

  • haha, it always draws a crowd!

  • Hey Guys,

well done. I love this one. It's an often played. Anyway it's one of the best. I like the riffs at the guitar with the a-minor and the h-minor. It gives a very good sound and makes it mor complete and richer.

It's not the often played e D C D-thing.Well done. Greetings from Germany.

  • Thank you so kindly! i like playing around with the chording of traditional songs to keep them fresh!!

  • That's very very Good!;)

  • Love it! Are you in a music shop?

  • I bet they are cause look in the backround: there's a guitar and a keyboard and I'd say the coloured things on the far left of the screen are strings and things.

  • Hi folks! During the past few hours I have had to remove a handful of comments from this video. Doing so was not an attempt to somehow avoid constructive criticism as one young man suggested. I simply wanted to avoid a verbal war. Feel free to comment on any of my videos.

    Cheers, newfiefiddler

  • one of my favorite reels....great job! --cheers

  • u should be plyin cmaj7 instead of dat Am kid

  • or playin even

  • timmol, nothing about irish trad is written in stone. maybe the correct comment would have been "hey, an alternative chord to the Am you play is Cmaj7, and let me tell you..i like how it sounds just swell!".

I once had a decently long discussion about the different chords you can use for the song the butterfly. I was able to have that conversation because no where does it say "here are the definitive chords for the butterfly, now and forever more"

  • Lovely.

  • Awesome...just... Awesome.

I tip my hat to you fellows, keep up the good work!!!

  • Amazing... absolutely amazing!

I'd be better playing this on bouzouki, but out out curiosity wat sort of tuning is that guitar in? Standard or DADGAD? Mayb sumtin difernt?

    Anyway, absolutey amazing!

  • Thanks! The guitar is in standard tuning: Em, D, Am, Bm, C, D, Em

    youtube com/watch?v=_HNNu8x_ulA

  • Ahhh, the onlookers make it all worthwhile. Nice tune! What type of Zouk is Steve playing, and where do i get one or similar?. Tks for the post.

  • Steve is playing a Trinity College - it's a popular bouzouki and you can get them most places traditional instruments are carried.

  • wtfuck that was great, haha. I love the peoples expression, shouldn;t they be playing heavy metal. bvalalah

  • It's impossible to not tap your foot to good wholesome music like this. Grand.
