  • fuck metallica. DREAM THEATER!

  • You don't need to know rhythm to be an awesome lead player. My friend can't play rhythm at all, but he can play crazy awesome improv solos. And I can play alright improv solos, but i mainly play rhythm.

  • @aLilBitOEverything Andy can play rhythm really well Bl

  • I was about to close the video & go do my homework, but than the guy mentioned Yngwie & Paul .. So, Homework ? Naaah' !

  • what are some good rhythm guitar songs

    not too easy

  • you talk too fuc**** MUCH.. SHUT UP & PLAY! DO THE LESSON. DA..WASTE OF TIME WATCHING YOU.

  • do you know how to play guitar?

  • You should have talked a bit about AC/DC, it's not death metal but their rhythm is really solid and most of the songs are very simple, open/power chord rhythms.

  • Well, Most of DragonForce Rhythm are mostly easy, but (Rhythm for Valley Of The Damned, Through The Fire And The Flames is mostly ok for the Rhythm Part)

  • This has no bearing on anything other than my curiosity, LOL, but what is your ethnic heritage? My guesses are Middle Eastern, Hispanic, or Indian (Asian Indian)?

  • lead guitar is boring sometimes though

  • @TheDUDE101GOOD

And practicing is boring as fuck too

  • @Haddockxyz300 IT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU GET BETTER YOU MORON.GROW UP FIRST,THEN LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE GUITAR,GO PLAY WITH YOUR DIC* FOR A COUPLE YEARS..

  • @joemel1967

Yeah but i don't want to get better a lead guitar. I'm a rhythm player. And i'm going for Bass.

  • can you suggest song songs to try learning for someone who's just getting into metal rhythm?

are there any good free resources on the net that can help?

  • @anormantheman Sure, try some Metallica. Specifically For Whom The Bell Tolls to learn your rhythm. Don't just play the song. Play it exactly on time and play it perfectly. It's an easy song, but it's difficult to play any song and make it sound clean. Once you get that one down, move on to Battery.

  • @RedSGShredder

thanks a lot.....i'll start learning today..

  • so is there a different guitar you to get for a rhythm guitar or is it the same as regular guitar?

  • @XxLowXProfilexX It's not a different guitar. It's just a different role.

  • @RedSGShredder ok thanks, so if i have an electric guitar it could be used as a rhythm guitar played differently?

  • @XxLowXProfilexX You can use any guitar you want to play rhythm guitar. Rhythm guitar is not a physical guitar. It is something you play on any guitar. You can also play lead on any guitar you want.

  • @RedSGShredder Ok thanks alot =D

  • ala seres druze !!!

  • Then what is the difference between a rhythm guitar and a lead guitar?

  • @Fallst4d Well it's just the style of playing. Rhythm is the backing to a solo.

  • @Fallst4d rhythm guitar establishes the chord progression of a song either through playing chords or implying them through riffs. lead guitar is more of a melodic embellishment (think about how many great guitar solos play parts of the sung melody at the beginning or end). keep in mind also that sometimes 2 guitars playing are just orchestrations, meaning the other guitarist is just playing a different variation of the rhythm guitar part and not distinctly lead.

  • thanks for the lesson

  • I like this tutorial despite the fact that I don't play guitars (I am interested in guitars since the time I start listening to Metal)

  • oh and also playing like Dragonforce is a bit WAY TOO FAST... but that also depends which song it is (at least some of them aren't as insane as FotS or TTFAF)

  • wats the difference between a rhythm and a bass guitar? i mean wat role does each of them posses?

  • Rhythm guitar is the guitar playing you hear during the majority of the song in most common metal music. Riffs, chords, and that sort of thing. Bass is similar to rhythm guitar because they usually play similar parts, but not always. Aside from that a bass guitar has much bigger and longer strings, so it sounds a lot lower.

  • haha using at dawn they sleep as a great example for great rhythm. Great Choice!

  • i love playing rhythm guitar i don't find playing solos ti be very fun even if you don't get that much props

  • in your opinion, would a rythm guitar sound better following the bassline but using chords or the drumbeat

  • I think it really depends on the situation. There are a lot of songs that use different ways, and they all sound good. For example, a lot of groove metal like Fear Factory or Meshuggah have the rhythm guitars, bass guitar, and kick drum all synchronized. So it all depends on what the song is supposed to sound like and what the songwriter is trying to accomplish.

  • do songs sound better with or without rthym guitar

  • Well maybe I don't understand the question, but yes I would say songs sound better with rhythm guitar.

  • welll like a song with a rthym guitar in it or a song without one in, which will be better

  • Well I generally think you want to have a rhythm guitar in most of the time. There are a few times when you might want to take out the rhythm guitar, like during a crazy solo or something. For example, check out the song Walk by Pantera, RIP Dime.

  • people always under estamate the rythm guitar

  • @ninjae4976 totally right

  • great lesson ! 5 stars :) awsome !!!

  • I'm picking up metal rhythm guitar, thnks for the great lesson man! :)

  • those songs in three actually may be in 6/8 time.

  • 3/4 and 6/8 are same. [basically]

  • man,im a big fan og yours. add me up and well talk, seriously, idol of mine. lol

  • A good example of what your talking about at 4:20 is the song "Waking The Demon" by Bullet For My Valentine.

  • Cool vids! thanks alot man!

  • I'm digging your videos since yesterday. Keep 'em coming!

    Regards from Chile.

  • Well I learnt plenty so I dunno what that guy down there (in comments) is on about... lol

  • gyroooscope haha in flames is dopee

  • what was the last song you played?

  • It's a Stratovarius song called Phoenix.

  • yeah just show how to play, i couldnt wait so i'm leaving f u 1 2 3 4 wtf is that a fucking explanation :DDD

  • hes explaining things you idiot!

    great teacher.

  • im sorry you dont feel the same.

    was just my opinion.

    my bad. =)

  • hmm i was wondering wat song was that from children of bodom

  • My lesson videos are mostly talking rather than playing for one simple reason. The reason is that no one will ever become a better guitar player by just watching me play. Period. It might be a little more boring and not as entertaining, but it's not meant to be entertaining. It's meant to be informative.

  • thats the exact way i learned to play rhytm better, old metallica songs really help alot

  • nice video. do you have any tips on playing fast downstrokes master of puppets style, i cant seem to get it, im better at alt picking palm mutes but with downstrokes i just cant do it fast enough

  • Thanks dude. I would just say practice a lot and build up your strength. A lot of it is in your muscular endurance, so exercise helps. I am going to make a few more rhythm lessons so those might help you.

  • practice at slower speeds and build up from there :)

  • Great lesson dude!

I made a Phoenix cover with a friend,

it sounds like empty but you can check it out on my channel anyway xD.

    Cheers!

  • i watched it and you and your drummer were great but i think that if you could get a bass in there it wouldn't sound empty. :)

  • hey vafa how bout that ref from the chargers game

  • Dude. Do not get me started. As far as I'm concerned the first and last Denver touchdowns did not happen. I have never been so absolutely pissed off at a game in my life. But on the other hand, the refs are only human, and they make mistakes too. It sucks, but that's reality. The thing that pisses me off even more is the fact that our supposedly awesome defense and Pro Bowl cornerback hasn't shown up for the last two fucking weeks!

  • dude i was watchin it, and i was like vafa has gotta be goin crazy lol. I live in cleveland so i was also unhappy with the stealers loss but w/e browns are poopoo lol

  • Heh, yeah dude, I was hoarse from yelling so much. I missed the Cleveland game but that sucks dude. Especially since this is supposed to be the Brown's year.

  • Wow!!

I wish STRATOVARIUS cover from YOU!!

  • your an awesome teacher..iv been in a band for a while, but i switched to another group as a Rhythm guitarist,i suck! lol! they say my tone is too bright!

  • 15viceandvirtues: what gear do you use?

  • Go to his YouTube Channel.

  • no i wasnt talking about 15viceandvirtues' gear, not redsgshredder's.

  • your a good teacher .

  • haha, you such a badass

seriously though, im really excited to checking out your other lessons

thank for helping out everyone not as badass as you

  • great lesson. i would also advice studying jazz to improve your chord changing abilities, as often chords in jazz involve all four fingers.

  • Its RIGGED! You are the smartest and best guitarist ever! You should have won!

By the way, sorry to hear about your Chargers :P I'm a Dolphins fan..we're going all the way :) xD

  • GGGGGGGGGGGGmen

  • Woop, mentioned Sweden! (not Meshuggah though... They're better than In Flames!)

Your lessons own, it's more down to earth and personal than the lessons by some pros.

  • That was completely awesome Vafa.

You're my "theguyIhavetoseesomuch" and everything you do is so AWESOME.

    You're the best Vafa!

    Greeting From Rimouski~

    Take Care Bro

    -Raph

  • good idea on the power metal for building your rhythm chops, i've always used Sepultura stuff to build em up. thanks man

  • thank you very much alllllllllllll your lessons are really helpful!

  • Great Lesson Vafa!

    5/5

  • vafa your so wise lol. wat stratovarious album is that?

  • Hah thanks, it's because I'm old I guess, heh. The album is called Infinite.

  • wow you respondded really fast lolhow bout them chargers lol

  • Shit man, don't even get me started. I had a front row seat of the touchdown that sealed the game. Man that was freaking painful. And now Merriman is gone for the whole year. But I'm still optimistic for a SuperBowl year!

  • dude have you heard Death Magnetic yet??!!?! its riff-tastic. maybe recommend all metallica, except the stuff from 1991-2007 :)

  • Whats up dude. I heard some songs off of it.

  • interesting lesson

  • You should get a better camera my friend! Your videos deserve it, you deserve it, we deserve it :P

  • nice lesson :)

  • i think i learned somethin ;P

good stuff.. im waiting for more lessons :)

    .. and by the way:

whats up with the CoB Blooddrunk contest?

  • A guy called "TheNoga" won. Thanks for checking it out!

  • i wish you had won :(

i dont think this guy is better, where can i check out his video?:D

  • Heheh well I wish I won too dude. It's all good though. You can see his video on the contest link in my video description, or you can search YouTube. He uploaded it here. He is actually a very good player!

  • There's kind of a difference between Gyroscope and Blooddrunk.

Gyroscope is in 3/4 timing and Blooddrunk is mainly in 4/4 timing with triplets.

You can call me nit picky but that's only because basically everything else about this video is spot on.

    great job.

  • he wasnt really talking about time signature, he was saying how you can count ONE two three ONE two three

  • i see ur point though

  • Ah thanks for the clarification dude. Yeah, that's what I meant when I said you can still count to four. I know a lot less about signatures and rhythm theory rather than chords, harmonies, etc. Thanks!

  • Yeah no problem. Great job mentioning old metallica. I've been playing for 11 years yet still play all of the basic songs like Eye of The Beholder just to get it absolutely 100% perfect rhythm. It's fun when you almost literally collide frequency with the song itself.

  • excellent perspective man!!!

  • :) haha

  • When I started to play guitar and got lessons, I learned good base on rhythm guitar and didn't try to play any solos since it wasn't necessary at the time. After two years of playing rhythm good we (me and my guitar teacher) started to look solos and I'm not a fast solo guitarist, but overall I'm good rhythm player. I'm happy to be a good rhythm guitar player and not as good solo guitarist as rhythm guitarist than a bad rhythm and a bad solo guitarist. Not that solos wouldn't be important.

  • Really Good lesson. Nice.

  • lol you didnt play any guitar till 30 seconds before the end. o well another gr8 video =)

  • thank you so much for this video! yno my lil brother got a junior guitar (lol), its a bit smaller than a normal guitar, and ive learned to play something (nothing great tho) and i was wondering how to play rhythm guitar. so this was all i needed :)

  • Nice lesson! Thx again!

  • Nice lesson as always dude, really helpful :)

  • "it's not a glamorous thing to be a rhythm guitar player"

unless you play slayer, of course!

i like the analogy you mentioned about being a lead player, there is basically no easy path to get to the top, right?

what you want to do is transfer the accents (and therefore tempo) made by the snare into your playing, that's what i thought you were trying to get accross.

    nice lesson! 5/5

    oh yeah, and f*ck dragonforce

  • Yes, thanks! That's exactly what I was trying to get across. I've seen a lot of dudes who are good at replicating a GuitarPro tab or play "Guitar Hero" style, in which they can hit all the notes quickly, but there's a lot more to guitar than that!

  • Good stuff. I've played along with my drum machine countless hours to zero in on timing.

  • ur vids r great, btw 'triple time' is actually called 6/8 time!!

  • Ah I see! Thanks for the clarification!

  • Your rhythm guitar tips are great, it helps a lot to listen to the drum beats, you're right:-)

    5*

  • Another nice lesson for the folks out there , Your a good guy . :o)tm *****

  • are u teaching drums or guitar i lost topic 5 minites in, Stay Focused on guitar

  • He IS focusing on guitar.

He's just using drums as an example of keeping in time with a song.

  • Rhythm has much to do with drums that why he is talking about drums too.

  • lolwut [perkele]

  • you kind of need to know how to play drums in order to play good guitar. or you have to at least understand basic drum theory.

  • not at all. you just need to understand a basic (drum) rhythm in order to be good. a RHYTHM guitarist with no RHYTHM is horrible. i would know, one was in my band.

  • Guitar. But it's good to know about drums because it will help you stay on beat and play better rhythm with better accents. Going back to a sports analogy, a defensive football player definitely needs to practice a variety of coverages like man, zone, blitzes, and so on. But it will still help the defensive player to learn about offensive techniques that receivers might use or blocking techniques because it would help him counter his opponents. More information is a good thing.

  • Swedish bands rule :D

    Great lesson dude!

  • Once again, a great job on another lesson man!!

...That last song sounds like something from 'Top Gun' or whatever! :D

  • fuckin awesome

  • i like :)

  • thanks for another great lesson!

  • really good instructive. I really like your job, your covers and your compositions.

  • Nice dude im 2nd comment
