Preaching about this song is folly. The whole song is about how a supposedly all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving God can allow evil. Pat answers or biblical versus don't make those questions go away. It's an angry song about the disconnect between God's image and our reality and pretty much should be accepted as that.. As a Christian, I know some of the responses. But, those responses are more for believers than non-believers.

there is a ton of controversy about what it means. but for me it reminds me of a child angry with his father. you can hate your parents and, for the most part, they will love you unconditionally.. this letter to god wasnt about not really believing in him, but by addressing him, actually admitting that he IS really there... or why bother talking to him at all..
