Oil production has increased since Obama took office and oil consumption in the US has dropped as well, which puts the lie to the internal supply and demand arguement. Oil specualtors [ super rich hedge fund types] increase the cost of a gallon of gas by 10 percent, which right now amounts to appx 40 cents a gallon. And by putting too much pressure on Iran, as The Republicans want to do, we are risking oil prices well over 8.00 a gallon.
Gas/Oil is FINITE. That means it is RUNNING OUT. We in the USA are using ONE FOURTH of it, and we have 2% of the population. How stupid/wasteful/gluttonous can we be? The lower the price, the quicker we waste it all, till the IS NO OIL LEFT.

The recent run up in gas prices in the US is due to refiners charging much more, as demand is still down. Part of the problem is the US market is not investing in refining capacity so that will tend to raise prices as refined gas is what goes into car. But this capacity issue does not explain the large price increase to 2008 levels For that one must look to the FED pumping money to big banks to bet in the commodity markets (55% of bank revenue in last quarter).

I think we need to revert pre-fall 1999 truck speed limits in Texas back to 60 mph/night: 55 if gas prices continue to rise, and revert the maximum speed limit back to 70 mph daytime (for cars) in all of Texas, including south and west Texas where now it's 75 and 80. Back in 2001 it used to be 70 mph in all of Tx. even I-10/I-20. And gas was cheap! only $1.15-1.25 a gallon or so.

fyi i need a truck for work because i do construction. I heard the price of gas would probably go up so in dec 2010 i sold my half ton dodge and bought a 3/4 ton 4x4 extended cab f250 for $4500. it gets 18.5mpg and runs on natural gas which in idaho is $2.00 a gal. it cost me $20 to fill it with cng or $80 to fill with unleaded. the point is you can complain that you cant afford it or actually try to better your situation. all i know is this summer I will be one of the few not paying $5 a gal.

The recent run up in gas prices in the US is due to refiners charging much more, as demand is still down. Part of the problem is the US market is not investing in refining capacity so that will tend to raise prices as refined gas is what goes into car. But this capacity issue does not explain the large price increase to 2008 levels For that one must look to the FED pumping money to big banks to bet in the commodity markets (55% of bank revenue in last quarter).

I think we need to revert pre-fall 1999 truck speed limits in Texas back to 60 mph/night: 55 if gas prices continue to rise, and revert the maximum speed limit back to 70 mph daytime (for cars) in all of Texas, including south and west Texas where now it's 75 and 80. Back in 2001 it used to be 70 mph in all of Tx. even I-10/I-20. And gas was cheap! only $1.15-1.25 a gallon or so.

So whatever happens to the US Dollar is THE primary influence in the price of oil for Americans since a falling dollar raises the cost of ALL IMPORTS including oil. Wonderful, now the Government will tell you what can drive by using gas prices to force you out of your truck! Some of us men are still men, we drive trucks that are capable off road and in the snow. Bush, conversely fuel prices "necessarily sky rocketing" is Mr. Obama's responsibility. The difference is Obama has an alterer motive (he wants to force us into using alternative fuel sources) which is fine, but not at the cost of feeding my kids. fyi i need a truck for work because i do construction. I heard the price of gas would probably go up so in dec 2010 i sold my half ton dodge and bought a 3/4 ton 4x4 extended cab f250 for $4500. it gets 18.5mpg and runs on natural gas which in idaho is $2.00 a gal. it cost me $20 to fill it with cng or $80 to fill with unleaded. the point is you can complain that you cant afford it or actually try to better your situation. all i know is this summer I will be one of the few not paying $5 a gal.

Did you flunk economics or just never go to school at all? Either increasing "SUPPLY" or decreasing "DEMAND" will cause LOWER prices. If ANY country increases world supply, prices will drop to the extent supply is increased. This is basic economic FACT. End cap and trade. End hyperegulation on oil drilling. End the federal reserve and their dollar devaluation. Stop creating money and credit out of thin air and letting oil futures speculators trade on "blank check credit." Bring the troops home (which further puts pressure on monetary policy to debase the currency and adds to the fear premium on oil prices.) Gas prices will fall under $2.00 per gallon.

Im curently in college and used to own a car but it got totaled, cause some girl hit it when i was parked in my neighborhood. So i know got my dads 97 suburban I love it for hunting and fishing but now gas is killing me im spending 100 bucks a week on gas comuting to school and work.. How does he expect me to trade it in for a 40,000 dollar hybrid???

hmm so I don't own a SUV that gets 8 miles to the gallon, rather I own a 1980 Datsun that gets about 35 miles to the gallon ... gas prices are not just hurting the SUV owners ... Even if I somehow could walk to work (or use the lack of a mass transportation network), these gas prices still hit me because my cost of food is going up as well due to the rising gas costs to transport my food. Here's one Idea for food, Obama, don't charge more on the taxes on diesel fuel than regular fuel!
