Me and My Mom really have our hearts set on getting this particular zinwell 970a. But We can't find it anywhere. We would rather avoid having to buy it online. So you can you please tell us where you get yours? I'm talking about walmart, fred meyer, radio shack, best buy, circuit city, etc.
Meijer is a big box store chain located throughout the Midwestern states (they're all over the place here in Ohio). If you can't find the Zinwell model in your part of the country, I personally recommend the Zenith sold at Radio Shack. I got it a few months ago. It's really top-notch. It's made out of metal, rather than cheap plastic. In addition, it produces a fantastic picture. It's a little more expensive than other models, but you'll really get your money's worth.
okay. I've switched to hunting down the Zenith brand XD. What do you have? The DTT-900 or the DTT-901. if you visit consumer reports (dot) org and find the converter box ratings you'll see that the DTT-901 has all the checkmarks filled out but the DTT-900 has all but one checkmark filled out but I was watching the "this old house" dtv special and they seemed to be giving away the DTT-900 box and they said that it has analog pass through which the consumer reports says DTT-900 dosent have but-
the DTT-901 does have. According to consumer reports. SO I'm thinking of bugging my mom to get the DTT-901 box (preferably) or if i cant get that one Ill just have to settle for DTT-900.
but does the DTT-900 is that the one that has the blue light on it?
Glad to help you out! You won't find the DTT-900 in the stores because it's outdated and no longer made (it didn't have analog pass-through, and I recall reading it had some problems with the sound). Zenith fixed all those problems and issued the DTT-901 last year. It's the newer, better version, and the one I have (and it's also got the blue-light thing). Definitely tell your mom to go out and buy it. It's a great, quality box, one that will surely last for many years.
=O btw I almost forgot! Our computer guy has a DTT-901 and says he doesn't even need an antennae he just uses the box and the box kinda acts as an antennae for him.
All Radio Shacks sold them as of January, but I suggest that you call beforehand to make sure they still carry it. If you can't find it, an excellent alternative is the Insignia NS-DXA1, available at Best Buy. It actually is a DTT-901 in disguise. It's made by the same company and contains the same guts. It just comes with different labeling and packaging, but that's the only difference.
I didn't know that the Zenith converter box could work without an antenna. I'll have to try it out!
I called my nearest Radio Shack and asked and they said they only carried digital stream..... but uh yeah the insignia was the only other one on the list besides zenith that had all it's checkmarks filled out... but Im really picky and Its going to take some research before I pick up the insignia.... but I have yet to call all the other places to check if they have zenith.... I know for a fact that my areas best buy has an insignia but how you know they are made by the same company?
Like you, I did I lot of research before I bought mine. While reading reviews and articles online, I read that both Zenith and Insignia are brands that both belong to the electronics company LG. LG for some reason markets their products under the Insignia name to Best Buy, and under the Zenith name everywhere else. I have no clue why that is, but maybe they have a special agreement or something. You can do an internet search to find out more details.
Yes please let me know how that works out with the No Needing an antenna to scan for channels on the zenith brand converter box, i really would like to see if you can get it to do that. Please do it.
I think mostly that my area dosent carry the zenith box but my computer guy said he got his in Hermiston OR witch is not far away (its like the next town over lol XD) SO would you rather me go over to the next town to get the Zenith (its like 45 min. away) or just got to best buy and get insginia?
OR would you recommend me to wait until my mom has something she needs to do in Hermiston and go over there to do what she needs to do PLUS get the box while we're there. Rather than just going over there and wasting gas and getting JUST the box and then heading home.
Wow! That's really far! If I were you, I'd just go to Best Buy and get the Insignia. After all, it's the exact same machine as the Zenith. The only difference is the logo. The sole reason why we went along with the Zenith instead of the Insignia is because my mom doesn't like Best Buy for some reason. I unplugged the antenna, and all I got was a blank screen. But remember, you don't need any fancy new antenna for your box, you can use the cheap antenna that originally came with your TV.
Okay. I guess we will go with the Insignia then. Is the picture quality with Zenith and Insignia boxes about or exactly the same? Okay... Let me explain something to you that's just it we used to have an antenna but the wire that got connected to the TV was pulled apart while trying to get it off. And now we just use this little flat thing that connects to the back of the TV and we get a decent good signal but we don't use an antenna and it says on the back of the thing we use in place for ante-
-antenna "converter" something like that. Yup so that's just it it's just a little kinda flat thing that we put on the cable connection on the back of the TV and we get a decent signal. =-)
Yep, you can re-use that thing with the converter box! As mentioned, you don't need to buy any fancy digital antenna. Whatever's already attached to your TV will do. I'm using the flimsy antenna that originally came with my TV. It wasn't too good at picking up analog signals, but I never bothered replacing it. However, it's fantastic at picking up digital signals!
Yeah... I looked on the back of the thing we use in place of an antenna and it says "Combiner/Separtor". So we can just put this thing on the back of the box where the antenna is supposed to be and "Voila!" we will get a picture? Great! Do you want to be friends?
Yep, you just connect that thing to the converter box, and you'll get a picture! You'll see on the back on the converter box that there is a cable-in and cable-out connection. You connect the antenna (or that thing that you have) to the cable-in, and connect the box to the cable-out. The box will come with all the wires and connectors you'll need to set it up. Check your messages, I sent you a friend invite. Cheers!
OK! Thanks for all your help! lol..... we just got the 2 coupons in the mail yesterday and we went to best buy and they do carry Insignia and Apex but they were COMPLETELY OUT OF THE INSIGNIA BOXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND ALL THEY HAD WERE LIKE FRICKIN 200 APEX BOXES!!!!!!!!!! I talked to some guy there and he said that they are waiting for their shipment or something to come in from Seattle. lol! Can you believe my luck!?!?!?!?!? We got 2 coupons and can we use the both of them to pay for a-
-$60 dollar converter box so that we don't have to spend any real money and that maybe 20 dollars will be left on one of them. Or do we have to use one of them to help pay for the cost of one and fork out some of our money to pay for it. OR could we just use the both of them to pay for it and get it over with and have $20 left on one of them.
Wow, that really is unlucky. I guess either your local Best Buy didn't have many of the Insignias in the first place, or they were so popular that they sold out quickly. Anyway, unfortunately, you can only use one coupon per box. So, there's no way to avoid it, you'll have to pay the $20 per box.
Have you called Best Buy yet to see if they got a new shipment recently? On the plus side, the complete switchover isn't until June, so you got plenty of time.
well... I've been there a couple of times already and they said they've been out of the insignia for some time now (they said a month last time I was there.... ) and that the girl I talked to said "The Insignia people are like in the middle of adding something to the box like for smart antennas and stuff" so I don't know. I don't know how to get them to order another batch of Insignia's BUT there is always the thought of running over to By-Mart in the next town over and getting Zenith.
btw I told you I've been there 2 times right? Well, the first time I was there and this girl asked me if I needed any help and we (and Mother.....) said "converter boxes" and she pointed us in the direction of the boxes and I think she kinda liked me 'cause she had a pleasant look on her face the whole time lol! AND the second time we were there and the girl I talked to said (in a vain attempt to get me to buy something) that the Apex boxes were like top of the line.... lol waht a liar!
actually we are thinking of getting the zinwell zat-950a model it is supposed to be better than the 970a model and it is available at our local albertsons.
Actually we already got the Zinwell ZAT-950A model converter box we just got it on a whim cause we tired of hunting down the correct box. lol even the mexi-bitch at the checkout who we bought it from said she got a zenith at circuit city before they went out of business. and the thing is I had been bugging my mom to go there to see what going out of business deals they had there. but she never got around to going there! Our other coupon expires June 17th so maybe Best Buy will get some more-
