I installed the same switch on my guitar, my guess is that on the clean channel you can hear the pickups picking up the clicking sound of pressing the button , distortion masks the sound.
I think its still electrical, relating to the breaking of the signal.
The pups pick up electrical signal, like the vibration of the strings. They don't act like microphones, as they just pick up magnetic or electrical inputs.
@pandaman0529 technically anything that moves the strings can be create sound in the pickups. put a speaker with music playing near your strings and the vibrations from the sound waves(which is really vibrating air waves) moves the strings and creates the sound of the music.
@dbsk8r92 In the case of putting a speaker next to guitar pickups, the reason why you would be able to hear sounds is NOT because of the resonance in the strings. While elastic to some degree, guitar strings would not be able to fully replicate the sounds coming out of speakers through resonance. The sound waves are just not that powerful. In order to even generate a signal thats picked up by the magnets, the strings have to be vibrating significantly. Its just not that simple.
M8 why dont people just turn the volume down on one pick-up and use the toggle switch to get this sound?like Van-halen, dont mean to be rude but that butten is gay.
because in one short press, you can make it go from on-off-on , but with the volume control trick, on-off-on takes 2 movements so its hard to do it fast. Plus you are more likely to break your switch, and it wont work if your guitar is a master volume guitar like this one

@pandaman0529 in my case it could be the fact that i have active pickups...other than that you're most likely right
dbsk8r92 1 year ago
@pandaman0529 lol as if he thought u could make ur strings vibrate with a speaker
ModPCLM 1 year ago
@dbsk8r92 Not really, actually only magnetic waves can be picked up by the pickups.

Strat players can't do that because Strats generally have ONE volume knob.. hehe
AntiRellik 2 years ago
yeah you can do that if you dont mind replacing your selector switch every couple days...

i dont get it...
the sound is coming straight from the button itself but when u trun on distortion u dont hear it anymore. hmmm...intavesting
kickflippy 2 years ago
u can fix the popping sound by gettin a guitar without a pick guard coz the clikin sound resonates thru the pick guard onto the pick ups :P
INFECTED835 2 years ago
You do realize that makes no sense physically, and that resonance doesn't work like that, right?
