Last May, I went to the Art Container Project in West Kowloon Cultural District. The land and the Art Containers provided a very relax atmosphere for me to stroll along and enjoy art works of local artists. At that time, I wish that it could be a park, where people can relax, sit and chat, it can also have a "Hyde Park Corner", it can have performance area and it can have an art exhibition area. It must have freedom for people to use it.
W KL will never happen... HK doesnt need a full district for cultural activities, people are far more interested in making money in stocks than cultural events. There is a very small population of people in HK that actually care about art and cultural events and that is the fact.
Hello everyone. Thanks very much for your comments. If you record a question/comment using "post a video response", we can play that for David Tang's forum next month.
Or make it legal to do street performances in certain parts of the city (parks, cultural areas, tourist spots, etc) Honestly, when walking through San Francisco, Hawaii, or New york one encounters street musicians and performers just expressing themselves, in HK that's not even legal for the most part. If we legalize that, wouldn't it be nice?
The government is thinking too big, too far, for too long. As someone listed below, if this was to be the equivalent of Broadway or the Opera House, it does not need to be a full-blown district development. Invite a recognized architect (Gehry, Hadid etc.) to build a prominent all-round entertainment landmark on site and let it speak for itself. Stop wasting time and effort on the Kai Tak site as well, move the cruise piers over to West Kowloon and hit two birds with one stone. Delay no more.
I think west kln would be great if it worked well. But honestly I'm not sure if we need an art centre of such proportions. Sydney has it's opera house, New York has Broadway, why does Hong Kong need a whole bloody district?
A forum where artists can express their imaginations and creations is extremely important, but all of West Kowloon?
how many of us r making our living by just "talking"? Yes, they r who u suggested: the media and the public. I can c there r medias in hk. But where the hell r the public. what d u mean by that. It's those politicians again man.
if u want want to use the public, come on use it effectively n make it quick. tell everyone in the "public" how u would financial benefit from it. so that we, as a member of the public, know that u can make a living once having it not by talking over it.
how much more time should we spend "talking". the site is there forever!!!
surely i m not believing it is an art project . Come on! let it be commercial, let it be disappointed. Just get it start. let it broken. let it fail everyone. we've got to move on. there r lots of stuffs have been stucked for these 10 yrs n this is enough.
given the limited amount of greeen spaces in HK with close proximity to the CBD and transport hubs, is there any reason why HK cant create its own version of "central park" ? Some grass where people can sit and chat, laugh, eat, and enjoy the harbour that the city is renowned for. Plus, by doing something like this, you are showing that the city is motivated to assist the environment rather than building more air choking infrastructure thats focussed on generating revenue than anything else?
build a new york there

I wish everybody in HK can speak in English as Sir David does, particularly those who have watched American sitcoms growing up.

HK needs a huge park like Central Park. A park attracts culture anyway
