  • fck, now i gotta search for 1950dodgefan

  • thanks for sharing. man you are genius!

  • where did the button go to rate the video -- the #1 opens up a different page - there's a add, share and flag, but absolutely nothing to rate the video on this page.

  • what the mirrors are made from?

  • @freemanx2x Acrylic... as far as I know. Don't know about mirror surface.

  • love the video man

  • love the video really good

  • This is really really awesome............ !!!

  • Hello Dan, I subscribed your channel and love your videos. Could you please put a candle at the focal point of one of your parabolic mirrors, at night, and show that on video? It would be fun to watch the difference between the light of the candle in or out the focal point. Thank you and congratulations! (Salvador, from Portugal)

  • Archimedes Death Ray is called, and is founded from Archimedes the greek.

  • I will like to buy this mirror for reserch.. Can u send me link of online store...

  • Id like to prepare my breakfast on one of those

  • Nice video thanks for the info.I would like to build one big enough to create rain clouds and make water for crop irrigation. I have seen the one at NASA on the discovery channel and something ten times the size mounted on a aircraft carrier might do it. Can u say purchase land in Arizona.????

  • These would also be great to have on roofs of buildings and use against riot police (like my ancestor Archimides did against the Roman fleet!) when they declare that your peaceful protest as "illegal" and decide to beat the sh!t out of you! But first to go should be the dish of the MRAD vehicle! For those on the ground, the parabolic shape is also great to send the MRAD sound, back to them (it's basic accoustics). Peace!

  • @onlinebills02 Um the focal length is only several centimeters away from the parabolic mirror. To focus heat to that great a distance would require a much larger dish; if you have a 30ft diameter dish, then it will focus heat on a spot 15 ft away.

  • @onlinebills02 You should learn how to spell your ancestor's name.

  • @onlinebills02: If you honestly trace yourself back to Archimedes I can't help but laugh at your idiocy.

  • @onlinebills02 crack kills

  • have you folks figured out an automatic sun tracking system that can be regulated and optimized by software to the temp and work you want?

  • What kind of material did you make this out of?

  • Best for Telescope, if you use less parabolic mirror

  • You have discovered the speed of light. When light passes through the focal point it obviously must speed up. Only makes sence that all those photons collected in the parabola would have to travel faster through the opening. Good stuff. Let me know if you think about this stuff to. 1x the speed of light can be multiplied by the parabolic dish to 2x,3x or whatewer you want i think. But I have been wrong once before.

  • @61miroman You're um... completely wrong. This has nothing to do with the speed of light. Light's speed is always uniform, but this mirror works on the same principle of a magnifying glass by focusing the beams at one spot.

  • @61miroman if it did then time would just slow down

  • You could mount a stirling engine through the centre of the mirror and achieve 4 times the power of the best solar cells currently available...

  • lol put that on the boarder and burn mexicans when they run across during the day lol

  • 1:38 SC comsat station...

  • COME ON! THATS NOT BIG, OBVIOULY HES A DWARF!

  • How many people have "few" 56 inch parabolic mirrors?

  • Dan, when will you update this project?

  • mith busters episode copy?

  • approximately how many degrees (Cersius) are in focus?

    Thanks

  • @xp3ng3 According to their site (Assuming these are 35" mirrors) the max temperature is 1493 celcius

  • It would be nice if you could make one big enough to vaporize deer.

  • is chrome paint or is aluminum highly polish or how you was made the perfect mirror?

  • 250 people walked past them at the focus.

  • i tihink mythbusters should used this one in the Obama chalange!

  • "i'm standing next to 56 inch parabolic mirror, *i actually have a few of them* "

  • @b0omtown All that energy from 5 sq meters of energy 150 million kilometers away from the sun which is a star. And there are a LOT of stars in the universe which theoretically the gods created.

  • What if you calibrated them to put all of their focal points on one place?? You could melt gods! :O

  • freakin a

  • have you ever accidentally walked into the path of the reflected beam....? >.>

  • You didn't set any ships in the harbor on fire, so the video is a waste.

  • ANCIENT GREEKS BURNED PERSIAN SHIPS 3000 YEARS AGO WITH THIS TECHNIQUE, SO I CAN ASURE U THAT IT IS WORKING

  • @asimask when the ships where 3 feet away?

  • @Frangm18 the ships where on the fucking sea, hundred meters away, how did they burn them? well i dont know exacty, maybe they had a lot of big mirrors or something like this, but they did burned them, its writen in the fucking history,

  • Using the 6"" or 13", you may want to test for an easy way to use it as a hiking stove for camping or long distance hiking.

  • Tell, where I can buy these mirrors?

  • the morse code at the end does not match up to the text-- it says bc2ta0wbco the 2 is not actually right but close. I do love the dishes tho thanks for the upload.

  • Where it is possible to buy such mirror???

  • where I buy something like that?

  • Yea thats nice but can you blow up cars with your mind.

  • anyone tried___ w w w diymagneticmotor com ?

  • the plate sides reflect because it's made of silver , or inox steel , or how did you make that plate?

  • @erickclare05 electro plating would be my guess, or its just a reeeeeally big salad bowl ;p

  • @dennizenx electroplating is useless for making mirrors....but doing it chemically is relatively easy and yields very good results...

  • Why africans don't use these confuses me. They deplete their forests looking for firewood.

  • maybe more p. mirrors in small size will do better work than 10 big p. mirrors

  • Continued from below...

Search "oil storm" and scroll down to where the barrel is over taking Dallas...

  • Communism failed because it was corrupt, but also because we bankrupted it (in Europe). Capitalism failed because yet another communist country knows how not to let divisions (such as enviro red tape and excess taxation on businesses) get in their way.

The ONLY solution is to create jobs... Then we don't have to cut services. Sure tax the rich but not the foundation to employment. That foundation is machine made solar dishes.

@moinmt what's your solution to fossil fueled depletion, huh?

  • It would be GREAT to "transport" light using some kind of "fiber glass/mirrors cable" from one point to the earth to the next, expanding the light at the end of the cable using some kind of complex system of mirrors again, etc.... ;)

  • any way to make this science to help heat your house...?

  • Comment removed

  • It can be aimed at water, water heats up and is transformed into steam, steam turns generators and power is created.

    How does it NOT work?

  • Green power is more like gay power. This liberal crap does not work and it just a way for liberals to redistribute wealth.

  • @Armornone Do some research. Most of these things in this catagorty are working. Look at Earthship houses too. Look at Earthbag houses, and soda pop heaters. You just don't take the time to really open your eyes and educate yourself. Anyway, someone MUST work on redistributing the wealth since about 2% of the world holds 95% of the wealth. Are you comfortable with that. If so, you must be very rich and so I guess I understand your fear.

  • @moinmt Ha! You admit it. That is called communism and green power is just a front for communism. You need to deal with it Buddy. Carbon Credits is just a way to steal money from Americans and give it to 3rd world countries. You have been exposed for this crap scam.

  • does darth vader live there cuz im consernd cuz of all the ''death rays'' O.o

  • now... put them all in a big circle and let them point right forward and not up or down or right or left only a perfect circle then lets see what happens;)

  • @117starpower That would be a cool project. Where can you get these mirrors or how do you make them?

  • ____ w w w diymagneticmotor com has FREE energy INFO ____

  • @TheOldpeep LOL

  • whatever happened with this?

  • What material are they made out of? And how are they made?

  • Make one the size of a big satlelight dish that's like 20 ft across then burn a car

  • @1950dodgefan yea then sun will turn black for a sec ;d

  • @1950dodgefan Actually, with the right focal length (i.e. adjusting the angle of the curve), the mirrors he has NOW are almost the same size as the Solar Furnace which can melt/burn any substance known to man.

  • How difficult is it to change the focal length of the mirrors? I suppose it's not the easiest thing to bend glass (assuming that those mirrors are made of glass)

  • @abunai59 Nearly impossible, actually. You'd almost have to make new ones. If you are wanting a mirror that changes the focal length, you'd have to have made of a flexible reflective surface, rigged up with a harness which moves.

  • @1950dodgefan That would be so beneficial to mankind...

  • @krissmith1986 and womenkind also...... ;)

  • @krissmith1986 hey, entertainment is a pretty necessary thing xD

  • @krissmith1986 man needs new weapons

  • @1950dodgefan that would be society helpfull

  • i wonder the camera sensor survived :D

  • Get golden brown in just seconds!

  • Dont worry guys he didnt steal all those mirrors.!?:!@%*%^*)

  • think you can aim those at Iran?

  • 1:39 RedAleart2 opening :p

  • Chuck Norris toilet.

  • HI I'M DAN ROHASS!!! lol

  • With a title like this ("Death ray" , lol) , i knew it had to come from the US... :/

  • Well, it's an interesting phenomenon.

What can you do with it?

Your video isn't bad but would be better if you overdubbed the voice. It would be easier to understand. Some of the audio was not that clear.

  • Stand in front of it :D lol

  • @samljer you r one stupid ball

  • @samljer more better PUSH him in front of it

  • it was concave or convex mirror

  • @TheDevilvivek concave

  • i like it.very interesting.

  • that is not high quality

  • cant u use that for some type of solar power? it b sweet..

  • full of sun and you wear a sweater and not a tshirt? your crazy

  • Dan, you blow me away with your random videos on solar power! I would love to see one of your solar reflectors or parabolic troughs in a steam generator setup. Every time I watch one of your videos I keep thinking "Holy crap, where does this guy get the money, supplies, and time to do all of this?!" Your work is amazing!!

Look what I'm doing with my blog using a parabolic trough and a tesla turbine. I would love to help you make something like it!! teslapower.wordpress . com

  • Hello Frien, ¿where did you buy this mirrous ? please I need one. Thank you. I´m from Mexico

  • @ganandomasdinero Puedes comrar los espejos parabolicos en su sitio de internet. greenpowerscience punto com.

  • Get a spherical mirror. The mirror being on the inside. Drill a hole in it and have fiber optic cable in the hole and a prismatic lense on the end of the cable. Run that down into the middle of the sphere.

Either a very odd disco ball you shall have or who the heck knows what may happen. Would be interesting to gauge the temperature inside of it though to see if it builds up energy.

  • is the stick ok?

  • BC ?TA0WDC0

  • so if i got in front of that shit it would burn a hole trough me in the end??

  • @moonlightguardian you'd blow a hole through the face of the sun :)

  • what would happen if you stare directly at the parabola's center? o_o

  • The thing they didn't tell you was the plain you heard crashed from this...

  • Hi Dan, I am a norwegian technology student currently working on my thesis about concentrating thermal solar energy. I am looking at small scale systems for cooking purposes, where air is the transport medium from a porous absorber to a rock bed heat storage. For this case I need a parabola with Ø~140 cm which is stiffened up by a suppert to avoid deforming. Do you know any companies manufacturing such parabolas? And where are the parabolas on your webpage manufactured?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • This will be handy when the Romans sail up to your shores, as well as boil water ; ) cant wait to see the action.

  • I'm guessing that the point of this "array" was purely for the GeeWow visual effect.

As you demonstrated, these deep dish reflector have a very short focal length. So there can be no question of "combining" them as shown.

  • @ROBwithaB

That's right there is no way they can be combined with that short of a focal point. Unless they are used on a long length of flat black pipe. ; )

  • @ROBwithaB

That's right there is no way they can be combined with that short of a focal point. Unless they are focused in tandem on a long length of flat black pipe filled with water. ; )

  • Well that's great if you live in California, but not in the UK :P

  • @GerbilEssences Well, Germany's apparently working on solar banks in the Sahara and just running power lines back home. Sweet idea, if the lines can be maintained - especially since the shade under the collectors is compatible with crop-growing!

  • @Buddhabright Now that is pretty smart :)

  • Its just like a magnifine glass.(i know i cant spell) Except much more powerful but me and my friends burnt our shoes with a magnifine glass.

  • 0:55

  • what would happen if you put them in a circle?

  • @MyBBallShots101 exactly! i thought that was what he was going to do LOL

  • @Void105 xD

  • Dan you need to take that array and focus on melting salts which use gravity to drop into a bunker, to be then stored at 500+ F. Then controllably, you can use the way-above-the-temperature-of-boiling-water insulated molten salt in stainless steel vessels to power a steam engine. Not direct Stirling, not steam turbine, a steam engine. Then you'll be rocking.

  • How much does that mirror cost ?

I'm curious if it would be good enough to build a giant home telescope ?

  • So if psychotic government agencies have these things in orbit, they could 'axial' multiple reflectors and burn us like bugs, or cook my dinner.

  • amagine ur crotch there

  • perfect bug zapper!

  • @jff0225

    Ants BEWARE!

  • @fergus247 - Exactly, dodge the patents they steal - build it in your backyard and give away all of your discoveries, share it on the web, have people improve on it and share their results- WE CAN BUILD BETTER CLEAN ENERGY THAN THE CORPORATIONS CAN, WE CAN'T AFFORD TO WAIT FOR THEM AND THE LOBBIESTS TAT BUY THEM OUT. Dan is the DIY Alt Renewable Energy Master! Lead the way Dan!

  • @CheeseBon When it rains everyting melts and the world comes to an end, and people cry like little babies. Let me ask you, what about when something goes wrong in the middle east? What about when a nuke plant blows up? Or moutains and rivers are destroyed by coal farming. Which is worse? Why would even ask a question like 'What about when it rains?" Duh, you use your batteries that stored solar when the sun was our or you get energy from the grid. You should be ashamed for asking.

  • God's contact lens

  • Oh also worked out that will produce 16kg of steam per hour at 100 deg "C" constant draw off.

  • I have worked out each of these mirrors could produce 1.7kW of heat in ideal conditions. Based on a solar flux of 1000 watts per square metre of area.

  • Brazilians do this to survive, a solar stove, see here watch?v=j5zddIut_9g

  • did you know that enough solar power hits the earth everyday to power all earths commodities for 5 years ?

  • Thanks alot Dan for posting.

  • Is it just me or does it look like hes been standing in front of the mirrors to long starting to get an orange glow

  • Concave mirrors produce real image

    Hurray for physics!

  • Holy fuck....i wonder if this technology has been utilized in powering some kinds of UFO's. I see alot of potential in it for massive perpetual power generation.

  • Can some one give me some tips, first ive got a slightly oval 18" by 22'' dish to make a mirror , is the dish satellite oval dishes still a good mirror to use ? do they focus like a true parabolic mirror once linned with reflective foil ? ?

  • @bogardenit Hey, I am an ex-Dish tech,so I have quite a few extra dishes. Last summer my son & I decided to make one.I grabbed mirrors in peoples trash piles on garbage day and cut 1 1/2" squares& adhered them to the dish.ALOT of work and because the "tiles" I cut were not consistently the same size, the results were only fine.It burned sticks and boiled water, then I used the reflective tape for sealing duct work, NOT DUCT TAPE. This worked better than cutting the mirrors and it was easier.

  • @bogardenit The 18" round dishes with a single eye LNB works great.Don't expect to burn the stick in seconds though,it will take at least 20 seconds or so to get it going on a hot bright summer day.The focal point of course would be right were the eye of the LNB is,however if you use an oval dish designed for multiple satellites then the focal point would be closer to the dish.I do not believe that this gives much more focus sunlight though.Of course the bigger the dish the more sun reflection.

  • maybe we should reduce the demand, everything 12v or less......... alternative fuels for cooking, whatever, there are so many ways man have created light and warmth.... nuclear is getting crazy, if u can do something with one thing, u could do something similar with another, need i remind we live in an infinite universe, focus on that, not limited resources corrupted for a profit...

  • u could have a barbecue without matches, fire lighters, wood, meths,

  • moooomm, i want a parabolic mirror!!

  • Nice. Im German... bild a mirow with a 200m distance focus and go to the Mithbusters to relive the greek mirow mith to senk ships whih ligt rays.

    Best regards Sebatian

P.S. to bekome more puplic for all of us! ;)

  • focal length of what, 4 feet? they can not focus on the same point so you can not have fun with an array of them.

  • shit man, almost 2K of solar power? that is a lot of solar powers.

  • buen proyecto lo unico es que me queme la frente XD

  • Have you thought of making a small planet like body on which to mount this? You could then maybe send it into close earth orbit and extract money from man kind, especially if you keep up the D E A T H R A Y angle, I like it, if you need any help with space rockets let me know.

  • Nice work, Keep up the innovation :D

  • The only reason this has 446K views is that it has 'death ray' in the title.

  • Hi I'm next to a big 56" dick.

  • will it blend? that is the question.

  • @TheOldpeep and i hate that question

  • @TheOldpeep But will YOU blend?

  • @TheOldpeep if you attach a Stirling engine to it, and attach it to a blender! :)

  • Someone's been busy..

  • Hey Had an Idea I saw another video about house that used a tubular collection device to gather and bring sunlight into a room through the attic. I wondered if this device could be coupled with a Fresnel lens to bring the power of the sun and the cooking power of the fresnel lens into a modern kitchen???? It is a Fresnel Type device attached to a reflective tube that runs through the attic and brings the light into the room through the ceiling supposed to give as much light as 4 100 what bulbs.

  • W00t for pointing the camera DIRECTLY at the reflective parabola!!!

and b4 anyone says anything about focus point and "idiot it wont burn the cam" i know, it is well away from the focus point, and the light has scattered enuff to be like looking directly at the sun, unfocused

  • @SilverDHedgehog2 If it's far from focal point, then it's just a little warm to the camera.

  • mola, no diré nada mas al respecto

  • make a parabolic mirror outof parabolic mirrors :P

  • the flash light reflector does the same thing as do magnified mirror.

  • Where do you get mirrors like those? or how do you make them if you do? i saw you video of a small mirror you made in the oven. do you use the same concept for a big mirror?
