  • January first bitches! So glad I'll be nearly 19 when this comes out.

  • now every state has agreed, SSSOOO CLOSE !!!!!!!!

  • strange they say introducing a r 18+ will expose children to adult content but they can easily go on the internet and have porn offered to them by a click of a button makes a lot of sense if you ask me

  • This is not only for kids but it also affects the Adults that would like to play games that are made for adults but are not imported due to the lack of the R18+ Classification.

  • It is absolutely vital that your sober presence within this faculty is magnified; it is so utterly foreign to the gaming community to hear federal and governmental ministries support our plight. Thank you for being the one such exception.

  • SHE SHOULD GET FIRED IT IS UPTO PARENTS YOU CAN GO ON WITH THIS DEBATE THAT WON'T GET ANYWHERE. BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY THE PARENT IS THE ONE WHOM DECIDES AND NOT THE GOVERNMENT, IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE CHILD'S MATURITY AND HOW THEY CAN COPE WITH THE EMOTIONAL AND VISUAL EFFECTS THAT THE GAME WILL HAVE!

  • @MrSnipershot007 Umm, actually read my reply. Of course it is up to parents in the end, classifications are just to assist with some guidance.

    Cheers,

    Pia

  • @KateLundy actually no it isn't i am a gamer and i am 29 years old and i have to import games into australia that are deemed refused classification because of the amount of violence when on sale now is a game called wii dare for 13 year olds which promotes sexual actions with 2 or more players now you saying our classification system is not broken is a joke, and i've lost all faith in our government a long time ago. You'll find majority of gamers are 25-35 year olds.

  • @KateLundy I actually think you make a good point it's good to know not all politicians are blind to the older gamers like me who are 29 and older i agree alot of ma 15+ game need to be classified to 18+ because games such as dead rising 2 are way to gory for a 15 year old i won't let my nephew play any of my games because i consider most of them pretty violent. I do import games from overseas because i tend to do research on a game through the internet before i buy and urge parents to as well.

  • It's up to the parent to make the decision and not you forcing parents to think this game is appropriate and this isn't.

  • Hi @TehRazorOwn,

I don't think the Senator disagrees that it is the parents decision, and having more useful classifications for games that reflect the content would help parents make a more informed decision. Classifications are guidance, not force.

  • @TehRazorOwn No one is forcing anything. What are you talking about? Classification is just guidance, of course the decision stays with parents.

  • Next up... BB Guns

    :D

  • so uhh

did that speech even get us anywhere?

  • my only gripe with this is the word "orientated"

  • thank you. at least someone is actualy listerning to us gamers.

  • Very embarrassing, this isn't being taken seriously at all

  • Nice , 18+ ftw .

  • Whats happening with it now ?

  • That was a great argument i am yet to see a decent argument from the other 2% of people in Australia

  • Mortal Kombat 9 has been banned. Looks like sales will go to importing it overseas, allow under 18s to seek copies of it , still keep parents in the dark and refuse to acknowledge what an adult gaming community would like to implement. The Australian Classification Board has once again, failed to act, treated adult Australians like children and continued to let this largely growing Australian community to stagger on. Where is out R18+ rating for games???!?

  • EVERY 1 IS GETTING BORED AND LEAVING

  • @razorblade2170 no, in australian parlimant, if you agree to passing the bill you sit on one side and if you dont you move to the other

  • I actually found this strangely interesting, for politics-ness ofcourse.

  • You fools! im 16 and now i will not be able to get future games that would have been MA15+. serves me right

  • If you don't want your kids playing a game with violent content, or what ever it may be that your against, Don't let them play it! ... Take some responsibility towards your children, you know what they're playing! if you don't want them to, don't allow them to, adding an R18 Classification is extremely pointless and wont help anything.

  • @Outpost41 how are you meant to know how violent a game is without a classification such as R 18+ without purchasing the product

also an R 18+ classification is not pointless if you were watching and paying attention you would realise she listed the reasons why an R 18+ classification is necessary i.e to help parents understand what their child might be playing, the cost for the changes made to the v ideo games costing the companies money and games being banned altogether

  • @Outpost41 there is such thing of a parental guidance that requires a code or password to allow 18+ games so that young teens or children aren't allowed access to these sort of games.

  • now im interested in politics.

  • I read online that the ACL (Australian Christian Lobby) is doing everything they can to convince the government to not go ahead with the r rating for games. In the artice entitled "Australian Christian Lobby: Against R18+ Classification" by Lyle Shelton states and I quote "ACL believes that it was wrong for the Federal Government and the gaming industry to claim that introducing an R18+ rating was in the best interests of children when it is exactly the opposite". MISINFORMED MUCH. google it

  • What about games that are rated MA 15+, but don't seem like it.. You guys already made L4D2 un-realistic, Its life, people will see these things sooner or later in life. I'v seen cows skinned, de-gutted etc. Not nice buts its a fact of life. You can't restrain life.

  • @PointCaliber Cant Stop The Zombie Apocalypse.

  • december 10 better bring the r-18+ rating in.. if it doesn't im gonna live in america -__-

  • @TDR4GON I'll go with you.

  • it sucks for the kiddies, but I was annoyed due to the censorship// nearly ban for L4D2 and fallout 3. I'm 20 in a few months, so it doesn't suck for me.

  • Very valid points. As a 20 year old gamer I believe I have the right to play games as they were supposed to be and not have to wait another two weeks for the game to be released due to Australia not having an R18 rating. I have played a lot of MA15+ games and do agree some of these should be rated R18. They only manage to 'slip through' because we don't have an R18 rating.

  • FUCK OFF if parents dont want there kids playing a certain game.. then they wont buy it.... an r18 rating is only going to make parents more concerned for our kids playing games that are R18 when half of them.. like call of duty... dont even need and R18 rating

  • @skaterz500 A game such as Call of Duty doesn't require an r18 rating at all. It is games such as Left 4 Dead 2, who suffer at the hands of Australian constitution. A game that had to alter so many aspects of game play, to the point where its predecessor (Left 4 Dead) felt as if it was light-years ahead of the sequel. It's not only the consumer who suffers... It is evident that not only do the distributors have to edit entire mechanics, but it has a detrimental effect as sales stoop entirely.

  • It's about time Australia has an R18+ rating for games, we have them for movies, so why not for games. I think it's also unfair on the company that produces these kind of games only to have them altered because some wowsers had a whine about the content.

  • @Baz0kaLord9087 How is that bad new? sucks for you kids under 18 zuhahaha!

  • So true... Perhaps the next L4D will finally be R18+ in australia if we are lucky :)

  • If only the AG’s would get their act together, for them though I think dragging it out has probably been a nice little earner. 10 years of time and cash for ‘evaluation’ of the subject. I’m sure lots of bureaucrats have had an easy treat. They should all be fired for such knuckle-dragging inefficiency. This could have been sorted out over a coffee and a pack of tim-tams. 10 FUCKING YEARS AGO.

  • Thank you so much Kate! What joy to hear a politician acknowledge in a detailed way all the hard work that has been done on this cause. The frustration at of 100,000’s of Australian citizens not having their voices heard in our democracy has been just heartbreaking. I really mean that.

  • +1 !!!

  • I'm glad the most important point was the first one touched on. How could anyone claim to be for protecting children from inappropriate content and be against this classification being introduced at the same time? It makes no sense.

  • Thank you very much for supporting a worthwhile cause. :)

  • Thank you!

  • Great work Kate! You've certainly got your head screwed on your shoulders right :)

now to amend the marriage act to legalise same sex marriage!!!!

  • What a freakin' legend.

  • Hi all,

Thanks very much for the comments :) I'll make sure the Senator sees them, all and that we also pass the feedback on.
