Crops need land. There is an upper limit to how much food we can currently get per acre - and many nations are no longer able to grow enough food for their people and so have to import food. We are approaching the upper limit for the planet.

You can plug in lamps and grow food in your bedroom if you wish - but you won't grow enough food even to feed your hamster on a long term basis. That has nothing to do with real agricultural issues.

Once again, NASA keeps looking for problems with no solutions. It's been like that since NASA began. Honestly, what benefits to society has "studying/exploring space" gotten us? We still run fossil fuels, food/water is in short supply, and companies still have monopoly over OUR energy bills.

If NASA will not lead the world then who will? I believe U.S has the BEST scientists in the world. The U.S Federal reserve can print trillions of dollars, so NASA has UNLIMITED funds!

So much wrong with this comment, where do I begin? Firstly, there are other departments more suited to do some of the things you're asking NASA to do (DOE, DOA, etc). All of which have a bigger budget than NASA, which total budget is less than one percent. Planet earth is first, but the idea we should put exploring and understanding aside until our problems are solve is retarded. There will always be more problems.

there are almost 7 billion people on the planet but it has been proven that there is enough food to feed everyone. the food is not distributed properly. the average american consumes 117kg of meat a year. in contrast, the average chinese person consumers less than 40kg. the average person in north american and europe consumes 3500-4500 calories a day. while millions of people in africa get by on less than 2000 calories a day. there is enough food, it's just that it's unevenly distributed
