  • I saw this in the movies theaters back then as an 12 year old. One of the things that sticks out in my mind was the crowds reaction when the emperor got thrown down the shaft. The entire theater ERRUPTED in applause and hand clapping, as if it had been an English premiere soccer match, instead of a movie.

    Will never forget that.

  • @mrceebees14 I saw "Empire" in the theater ( I was 6 !!) and remember the GASP from the audience when Vader said, "No, I am your father"....and I also remember the eruption of applause when Vader tossed the Emperor... movie audiences were different back then.....

  • @bamadon Empire I was 9 and saw it in a Drive-In movie theater on top of my Uncles old Oldsmobile 88 with my cousin.

I saw Tron at the same place, but with my cousins family.

When I was 6 I saw Freaking Friday in the movie theaters.......now we are going WAYYY back.

  • @mrceebees14 Waaaay back, indeed! I saw "Tron" at an 8-screen theater that WAS in the FIRST indoor shopping mall in the South (Eastwood Mall in Birmingham, AL) that is now a Wal-Mart..... Getting old SUCKS!!!

  • ...the Emperor should strike you down for uploading 240p!!!...

  • Who else thinks that it would be cool if Topher Grace had played Luke Skywalker.

  • @xtreme591 No. Just no. Mark Hamill is the only and true Luke Skywalker, no one can replace him!

  • at the 04:12 seems telling fucking bastard. DIEEEE

  • I swear to god if I have to listen to noooo! In the theatres in 2017 someone's getting hit in the head with a brick

  • I dont get it, why did darth wader only use the force like one time, that time when he throws his light saber. Thats like only one time.

  • @MegaBanne I think in the cannon it gets explained that after he gets put into his suit, most of the trickier force moves such as force push, lighting and such are impossible for him, because he's "More machine than man."

  • @tankmen93 he still should have the greates Midiklorian count in the whole galaxy after luke and leia. I mean, you should be able to use the Midiklorians with out arms or legs.

What i think is that the Midiklorians dont work to getter with his arms when he does the force push, but with his mind. So as long as he feels his Prosthesis arm like it would have ben his real arm, he would be able to use the force in such way.

  • At the end if the day, Anakin brought balance and killed the. Dark lord. Legacy was for filled.

  • 2:13 I think that's where he got his critical finish in Soul Calibur 4.

  • Ha ha... old man gets his robot ass handed to him again.

  • 0:40

Luke-"its over Vader, i have the high ground"

    Vader-"god damn it"

  • @2:13 vaders probably thinking "oh shit he has the high ground better throw my light saber

  • 3:34 one of the best parts in any of the movies

  • After ALL THESE YEARS, this scene makes me break down and cry every time I see it without fail.

It's hard to type with tears in my eyes...

  • Lol at the Emperor he's all "either way I win so I might as well get mahself some popcorn and watch this"

  • I'm not getting it. How does Vader die? He gets his fake hand cut off and that's it? I'm obviously missing something :(

  • @D1rtyMeX1can The Emperor's force lightning broke his life support machine

  • so how is dark vader talking while hes breathing at the same time ???

  • @HmongZboy His suit injects air into his lungs. The suit also acts as a voice synthesizer. this gives him the ability to speak and breath simultaneously.

  • @ThePazzanator wow so interesting story i mean it, good luck darth vader, i will meet you fate again :)

  • 07:15 Anakin decides to go ahead and fulfill his destiny.

  • 4:10 ... why would the Emperor install armored hand rails? :P

  • 7:26

I guess it looks like the Emperor was...

    *sunglasses*

    ...overthrown.

    YEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!

  • @Themanwhofrowns lmao Bravo.

  • Why did Vader fall down at 4:12

  • @phillyphan221 Tripped?

  • @Sevv9220 Them capes will do it....

  • @derekgornall Yeah. Haha!

  • I think this was more emotional before the PT. We hear that Anakin was a good man once from Obi-Wan and we see him come through in the end here. All the PT did was make Anakin an angry whiner who I never felt any sympathy for.

  • lol this is like the 3rd time anakins hand got cut off first it was from dooku then obi wan and then luke lmao

  • Makes me cry every single time. :')

  • i love how vader has all these powers can see him hiding under the stairs

  • Also vader looks like humpty dumbty without his mask.

  • poor anakin that he dies. he will be missed

  • Anakin must get tired of having his right hand cut off.

  • Never watched the films, who is the creepy old guy, is he called Darith Sidius? Is he like the big cheese?

  • 1:22 The first time I saw it, I nearly had a heart attack.

  • 6 people have no soul or are trekkies

  • how did he not see him right by the stairs

  • What I don't get is why Luke threw his lightsaber away. If he hadn't done that, then he'd have been able to block Palpatine's lightning attack.

  • @occultdude17 Cuz this movie has more depth than that. It wasn't about killing the Emperor. That wasn't Luke's motivation. Luke wanted to turn Vader back to good again and redeem him. And when Vader pissed him off, talking about manipulating his sister, he went apeshit on him. He was so friggin angry he starting wailing on him. But he stops and remembers that being a Jedi isn't about violence. He throws the saber, no matter how stupid that is, so he can't use violence again.

  • @occultdude17 I doubt he could, he.. well...

"You don't know the power of the Dark Side"

  • darth sidiuos looked like i kno he didnt wen luke told him no

  • man if i was vader i would have let luke kill sidiuos

LUKE: y did u let me kill him father

VADER: cause i was sik of his old ass anyway

  • Epic movie

  • Vader: I'm getting too old for this. Sidious: than what am I? Vader: an old fat ass

  • Can somebody please tell me??? Is Darth Sidious the boss or is it darth vader?

    and btw. who is stronger?

    PLEASE REPLY AND FAST.

  • @MrBestmouse Sidious is the master, Vader is his apprentice. Vader has greater force potential than Sidious, but his injuries have limited the extent to which his power can grow. That's why he wants to team with Luke against the Emperor, because Luke has the same potential but is still whole. Of course, Sidious still has far more experience, which works in his favour.

  • It takes serious skill to act the way Mark did when he had nothing but light to go off of.

  • Return of the jedi and the phantom meance lightsaber duels where my favorite ones

  • Why did Luke not attack Sidious after he disabled Vader?

  • @sierra2496 Because Vader threw it in electric charge and he died?

  • Vader proved to be the master swordsman, exposing Luke's naivete & inexperience in ESB. But here after Luke went beserk he was only retreating & parrying. Even his dodge causing him to fall over & remain floored, I thought was rather lame. Was the intention of that scene to emphasise Vader's holding back, & not wanting to go all out against Luke? Im jus guessing since Luke said Vader was hvg an inner conflict earlier??

  • @jbdoggy That's what I always thought. I think deep down Vader saw his younger self (NOT HAYDEN, THE PREQUELS NEVER HAPPENED) in Luke and truthfully didn't want him to turn to the darkside. I mean there were so many ways Vader could've killed Luke instantly. But killing him just wasn't his motivation. Besides, he had to follow the Emperor's orders and not really hurt Luke too bad. The Emperor was the only one who could decide whether Luke lived or died.

  • @michaelandjennyshow They happened. They did. Deal with it.

  • @TheIlluminatus503

    Unfortunately.

  • @TheIlluminatus503 not when they were filming this...

  • @videomaster5555 actually vaders right hand was only cut off twice. when obi wan fought anakin in mustafar he only actually cut both his legs and left hand. his right mechanical hand was still there

  • the like bar is a light saber lol

  • Notice how Vader is walking up towards Luke instead of jumping up to him as he did at mustafar against Obi-Wan, and that he throws his lightsaber instead at another point in the battle and not jumping as well. Vader learned his lesson at Mustafar clearly.

  • @EddieMotorhead How is that when 'Return of the sith' was released after this ? :S

  • @EddieMotorhead well that and at mustafar he had nearly all his origonal appendages except his right hand, until obi wan removed the rest of them with his saber. Now hes basically a machine running on life support, and cant perform all those tricks and abilities he once could do when he had real body parts. Also notice he never runs anymore. He always walks. Even in The Force Unleashed game when you played as vader, he couldnt run. only jog.

  • @Crossingman18 I suppose he could possibly make a few of the moves he could back then if he had gotten another suit which was offered for him, it would have been alot more advanced and probubly would PROPUBLY, (maybe a little) have allowed him to move much easier and being more agile. Though it would have required him to have all his limbs removed, and his life support system to be temporarly shut down while being put into the new suit, which would most likely have killed him.

  • @EddieMotorhead great observation.... each has learned more since they last met.

  • @EddieMotorhead Actually, it's mainly because he's a crappy Force user. He's more machine than man, which limits his abilities to use the Force, which is something only organic creatures have.

  • @Paragon468 Oh, that and he's an old man xD

  • @EddieMotorhead "(oh no, he has figured out my weakness... higher ground!)"= "obi wan has taught you well"

  • @EddieMotorhead True, plus he's just an old ass nigguh at this point. If I was Vader's age, I'd throw my 'saber at a fool too.

  • @EddieMotorhead or maybe its because he's 80% machine

  • Vader redeems himself nicely fucken owned the emperor!!

  • You torrented this didn't you ;)

  • 3:45 - 4:18

Always loved that song. Reminds me of those 1930's-1960's Biblical films

  • The music that plays when Luke goes bezerk is EPIC

  • I have watched the entire saga 1-6....hmmm maybe 6 or 7 times. I have no friends who like this. They call me StarNerd. Like Ted Mosby, im gonna have 1 boy and 1 girl. Named Luke and Leia, AND I am gonna legally change my last name to skywalker

  • @ChuggaaconroyFan102

Doesn't the wife have a say?

    :D

  • @ChuggaaconroyFan102 You realize how much your kids are gonna get picked on in school for having those names, right?

I'm not trying play parrent, i'm only 18. But seriously, my dude, they are gonna get made fun of a whole fucking lot!

  • EPIC MOMENT OF ALL TIME AT 3:40-4:30 !!!

  • Man I really do love when Luke totally flips out and goes for Vader. You can really feel how pissed off he is.

  • Darth Vader's breathing is too fast, and hes is breathing fast even when he is talking!

  • Stop spamming Force Lightning!

  • when luke saw that his hand is the same as anakins that got cut off, he realized he was following his fathers footsteps

  • @houseroof100 that to me is some bullshit though. He cut off vaders hand just like vader cut his hand off. Thats symbolic enough they dont need to tdo that in the prequels unless the prequels suck and they needed a reason to seem smart. which is what I think happened

  • Wow Vaders hand got cut off 3 times once by Count Dooku once by Obi-Wan and once by Luke

  • fail 0:30 luke is striking away from the emperor

  • Guiz. Don't tell anyone, but the first couple times I watched this I cried when Vader died in Luke's hands >.<

    NOT KIDDING!

  • @hellooo42971 Haha you're a panzy

  • @hellooo42971 my younger brother used to cry at Vaders death, not the part when he dies but when luke is watching his pyre burning,he full on bawled lol

  • @GhostOfAStranger1 Good point :)

  • Of course Anakin was going to kill the Emperor as he saw Luke facing death. One of the reasons why he turned to the darkside, was because he wanted the power to protect his loved ones. His failure to secure his mom's and Padme's life was a catalyst. After being used by the Emperor as merely a puppet, seeing Luke, his son, Padme's son, his mom's grandson, was nostalgic of his promise to protect them.

  • @GhostOfAStranger1 Thats an excellent point. Whatt father could watch some lizard faced evil boss kill his son???? Vader also respected Luke, as Luke could have easily killed Vader in the fight. Vader is the all time best "villan" but he was a Jedi first.

Lots of symbolism here with Christianity.....Vader did alot of bad things.....yet he was saved within minutes of his death.

AWESOME MOVIE...even with old special effects its good....I'm 47 saw it in the theaters.

  • @GhostOfAStranger1 yes, i agree.

  • @GhostOfAStranger1 that is EXACTLY right - finally someone gets it. I've been trying to explain this to people for decades.... Great interpretation and explanation - exactly 100% correct

  • @GhostOfAStranger1 yes he fucking killed padme though, the whole reason why he became a sith. Does this not sond like shitty screenwriting,...

  • @GhostOfAStranger1 Love is a far more powerful motivator than greed

  • Hell no daddy powers activate

  • I thought that that was anikan sky walker

  • i think luke sucks balls at fighting and using the force.

  • this my favorite sence in return of the jedi when luke is fighting with his father.

  • i hope i get to the top comments

  • this fight always breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes!!

  • 4:09 vader asthma attack apparently

  • i love this movie and also the whole starwars saga.. but i have a question why luke skywalker doesn't get older when hes been electrocuted? hehehe like what happened to chancellor palpatin at Starwars part 3??

  • @cutemepo1213

on wookiepedia it said that palpatine used his life force to super charge his force lightning out of desperation

  • @cutemepo1213

I think Palpatine got older because the Lighting ate his vital force. Also, Mace Windu somewhat turned the lightning against him.

  • @cutemepo1213 perhaps Palpatine ALWAYS looked like that. And his use of the Dark Side of the force Disgized him. After using his li=fe forse for the Normal look i believe he needed his full power to rule.

He didn't get old.....he got the lizard look.....count dukoo didn't get old when he fought Yoda did he ???

  • @cutemepo1213 The lightning didn't make Palpatine get older, but rather LOOK older, the lightning deformed his face. Two things why this happened to him and not the others. For the first Palpatine, when fighting Windu, he used his maximum strenght, his life force, to try to kill Windu. Second, the lightning was aimed directly to his face, so his face got deformed. I can't imagine his other parts of his body getting this fucked up, just his face.

  • @cutemepo1213 Because ROTJ was made in 1983.

  • I think showing padme's parents at the end finding out that the twins survived would have been epic...

  • Luke is beastin

  • Best voice ever James earl jones one best actors

  • 0:28 Gotta love Vader's reaction time.

  • "you are un-wise to lower your defences!"

30 seconds later, tosses away his only weapon. You see vader, this is why you have none of your orginal limbs

  • You know, I have seen this movie plenty of times in my life, but i do have to say every time i watch Return Of The Jedi, i feel like im watching it for the first time!

  • I dont understand...the way of the sith is to attack in anger. This is never the way of the Jedi. However this is the way Luke defeats Vader. Am I missing something?

  • @b7r7u7c7e Luke was treading dangerously close to the Dark Side when he charged Vader. That's why he threw his lightsaber away after he cut Vader's hand off, because he knew he had given into his anger for that moment and didn't want to slip any further.

  • @HardcoreHector Thanks. I know its only a movie but when I went to comic con there were people there telling me all about the details of the Jedi, Vaders back ground and how the sith is different then the Jedi. I never paid attention to the philosophy. Just thought it was a cool movie. I was told Jedi never attack, or speak in terms that only help them. So when I saw Luke try and take out the Emperor and then only over came Vader by anger I got confused. Seems like theres a fine line.

  • song name 3:40 pls help me ;) ?

  • Lol egg head

  • 3:49-4:18 Man! Luke is killing him! :D

  • 4:07 I have already notice this along time ago but if you notice the shadow of them you can see that the shadow of the Lightsaber are just sticks! Now this must prove to dumb-asses that Lightabers are just FX!

  • Nice of Vader to name his lightsaber "your destiny".

  • @jesse0576 O_O

  • @NinjaKage100 I can totally see that. Same way fight, with force lightning and all, but no vader suit.

  • 1:48- Luke: its over anakin! i have the high ground. Vader : -.- not this shit again.

  • @tichyben more like not falling for it this time

  • @tichyben lol

  • Palpetine stop being a creaper and zapping young adults

  • to me 7:16 to 7:32 is probably the most memorable moment in movie history

  • @TheKanonHara cunt

  • At end Vader realised what he have done and what kind monster he was turned into...he was not same anakin what he used to be...he realised he will lose he,s children to emperor if he not stop this madness...Anakin truly was chosen one.....

  • must be hard fighting in a suit

  • i have to admit i like this battle one of the best

but it would be cool to see an alternative universe where vader (who didnt lose his arms and legs and didnt get burned in the lava planet) vs luke :P

  • @NinjaKage100 To be honest Palpatine wanted Luke to be his new apprentice because he was as powerful as Anakin had been before his maiming and transformation into the Cyborg Vader. Vader only stayed in service to him because of that as he had planned on killing Palpy and being Emperor himself. if youb remove that then he does, Padme would've been Empress and Luke and Leia would have been born the Dark Prince and Princess of the Sith.

  • @NinjaKage100 If Vader hadn't sustain those injuries, he would have killed the Emperor as soon as he discovered Luke (Much like the Emperor murdering Plagueis when he realized he was going to be replaced by Anakin - who was said to be conceived by his master's tampering of Midichlorians/the Force). I don't think Padme would like to live on genocide.

Although his injury somewhat increased his intelligence and emotional control (without them, he'd strangle his family to death).

  • Luke kinda kick your ass Darth mate

  • after luke gets knocked down by the lightning, vader gets up to say "i dont want to get in the middle of that one"

  • Ah the end of one of the most badass characters in all of fiction. I freaking yelled "Hell Yeah kill the bastard!" when Vader turned on Sidious. Such an epic moment. I find it somewhat ironic that both Luke and Anakin lost the same hand which is one reason why I think Luke backed off after he cut Vader's metal hand off. An epic moment all around, it may not be flashy but it is a great fight.

  • Its so upsetting to see Anikan die...he rederms himself in the eyes of his children amd ddies...its heartbreaking

  • @thewatchmen90 'Maybe Vader had died heroically, but ten minutes of contrition did not make up for years of atrocities." - Princess Leia

  • I don't think it was contrition, but compassion for his offspring (which is more than 10 minutes).

He convinced the Emperor to spare Luke (at the price of joining the Dark Side) to prevent his son from getting wiped out with the rebels. In this duel, Vader tries to bring Luke to the Dark Side to spare him from death - ultimately Vader couldn't do it, realizing the Emperor had lost his patience and decides to kill Luke instead, Vader kills the Emperor at the cost of his life.

  • 4:20 Luke: doesn't feel good does it!?!?

  • @MDPennypacker It may sound like trolling but, I really mean it. Please... at 4:13 it is sooooo bad acting.... Darth Vader just threw himself to the floor to get his arm cut off. That was really lame. There was nothing epic about that confrontation.

  • so this is the so talked about star wars... what a piece of crap...

  • 5:20 u mad Palpatine?

  • 3:44 - 4:13 Best music in star wars!

  • anikin does not have the strength like he use to

  • 9:00 lol the harmonica

  • 3:42 I have no choice. I have to stop him. I have to kill my father.

3:59 He's dodging too much to kill without anger. I keep missing.

4:00 Maybe I can beat him in a contest of lightsaber skill.

4:08 Nope, I'll be here all fucking day trying to beat him.

    4:13 Goddamn it! GO! DOWN!

  • You can clearly see in the x-ray at 07:22 that Vader has a brain tumor.

  • 4:14

    Button-mashing always works.

  • When Vader threw his lightsaber at Luke on the balcony....he could've jump up there to... but he remembered when he did that in epidsode 3 with Obi-Wan.....he got his limbs cut off....that very mistake got him in that suit and he lost the battle..because I think Anakin could've beating Obi-Wan...experience is good teacher...Vader wasn't going to fall for that banana in the tailpipe again

  • This scene right here of Vader and Luke almost mirrors the scene in Revenge of the Sith.....of Anakin and Dooku....who is always in the middle..Palpatine/Sidious.Lucas in all the Star Wars epidsodes puts reoccurring themes or situations.....if you go back look threw each film and pay attention....that's just my observation after seeing all 6 movies.

  • When a jedi or sith fights with their emotions it seems like their more focused....whether the jedi like to admit it or not,you just cant rely on lightsaber skills only, sometimes the jedi have to rely on their negative emotions to win.If Yoda gave into his anger and rage with his knowledge, experience, and skills of the force,Yoda would've been unstopable...he would've made Sidious look like a padawan learner in epidsode 3

  • It seems to me that in most ligthsaber duels that the only way most jedi's at one point in the battle against a sith....can't just rely on their skill with a lightsaber. That sometimes they have to rely on their emotions mainly anger and rage to win against a sith lord....thats how Anakin defeated Dooku in epidsode 3.

  • As a boy Luke Skywalker/Mark Hamill was my hero. This scene right here is my childhood. Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor, James Earl Jones voice over for Darth Vader, Mark Hamills new and grown up Jedi as Luke, John Williams score ( particularly this piece - called "The final duel" i think, the set, the dark colours and the way it plays out. It's all just damn perfectly evil and heroic.

  • Ian McDiarmid should have got an oscar for his performance. Electric.

  • well if anakin won vs obi one this would of never happened but of corse the jedi win

  • click 07:31 to fourfil the prophecy

  • LOL ive never noticed this before but if u puase at 04:06 u can actaully see the shadows of the lightsaber sticks they used on the set and u can see they are not the shadows of lightsabers but just swords or sticks

  • With all due respect for this great scene (when luke is being tortured with force lightning wh
