@manicbabyshambles123 Like I've stated elsewhere, punk is about attitude and aesthetic and bluster. A lot of, most of it is for show. sex pistols where possibly the most manufactured band of all time even if they had some interesting songs. When you bring musicianship and good songwriting, which I don't hear a lot of on Voidoids albums either, it becomes mainstream rock really. Punk, real punk is a fuck you to musical professionalism.

@KingFahtah Punk was not a fuck you to professionalism. The original bands were amazing musicians. They just didn't subscribe to rock looking or sounding one way. They wanted to be as real as possible. GG had some great songs IMO but being a wild man does not make you "more punk". Sid Vicious killed himself and ruined the Pistols with that mentality.

@KingFahtah Well you can't have interesting songs unless you can write them. I agree that punk is about bluster and energy, but where do you draw the line before it becomes predictable and facile? Personally I think you need the songs to back up the bluster, otherwise it's just crass and pointless after a while. GG Allin was just a shock jock, who's only good song was 'When I Die'. That did capture something interesting, no matter how genuinely unpleasant.

Hell sings about love and apathy, Allin sings about vileness and the dark side of humanity. They are both raw an primal but different approaches. Hell was "yeah whatever love it or leave it I don't care", Allin was "I'm gonna make you fuckin puke and scar you for life". Both attitudes are punk. Punk is too often predictable and facile though it's true
