every time i see or think bout the size of the universe, i imagine myself grown to a size where the earth might be like an atom, solor system like a cell, and my entire body like the galaxy! and so on........
that really helps me see the universe more clearly lol.
can someone confirm if this is correct...78 billion light years across for the size of the universe?
I was always under the impression the big bang occured 13 billion years ago therefore making the size of the universe 26 billion light years across...correct?
if you think bout it 78 billion light years is amazing
1 light is an object traveling at 186000 miles a second
and there is 31,536,000 seconds in a year and 31536000 x 186000 = i think about 2 trillion miles x 78 = 156 trillion miles across hey i may b wrong im only 12 and i estmated
i think you only did 78 light years, u needed to multiply times 78 billion, so that makes it = 737.931 Sexillion kms (458.267 sexillion miles), or however u spell/say that.
I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly, I don't know what night light stars are, but when you look into the night sky you can see mostly other stars in our galaxy but you can also see a few galaxies and planets. For instance you can see Mars as well as the Andromeda Galaxy at certain times without a telescope. Hope that answers your question.
I believe most of it is stars in our galaxy. Galaxies are very far away. You might see a few planets in our solar system if you look in the right place such as Saturn etc.
MikeyCreation. At night when your looking up you see a star not a planet nor a galaxy. So you basically see on out of many star in our galaxy called the Milkyway.
We would see the planets closest to ours, which would look as bright as all the stars in our solar system. We also see lots of really far away galaxies. To find out exactly what you're looking at, you'd need a telescope or a map of the night's sky.
amazing! makes is easier to vizualise and reflect on the size. Sience is moving rapidly though, I think we live in an interesting time if u enjoy to explore...figure out how things work :D
i am actually really disappointed that i live in a time and civilization that does not have the technology to explore space... earth is virtually insignificant and thus every individual human on it is, well... less than virtually insignificant. we think all our business is so important here when really it means nothing! next time you look into the night sky just try to imagine how much other stuff is happening at that very moment... it is frankly inconceivable.
maybe when you realize everything happens inside of you you will stop being soo dissapointed, you need to stop relying only on science because it will never explain the spiritual world, but it can prove that it exist
at least be proud that youre part of a race that will eventually figure it out. were smart creatures. and you never know, humans might not be all that insignificant. maybe were all part of something bigger. we only know so much and mostly what we have to go on are just good guesses.
If you think we are small and unimportant; just think less then 130 years ago electricity was invented and an off shot of that was modern life. We are more or less the rulers of this lump of rock floating in the vacuum of space. We need to all agree on that and get the fuck off of it so we can spread like cancer though out the universe.
That means you are a dumbass. If you're so disappointed, why aren't you the smart guy who invented the technology to travel in time and space ? you expect things from other people but you can't even think for yourself. The size doesn't matter. It matters what you have up in your head and as far as I see, it're pretty much empty. Life it is beautiful the way it is, no need to conquer (you call it explore) other planets when Earth is enough. You've got a lot to learn boy.
You should enjoy what you have not what you wish to have. Maybe you would like to live in the Roman Empire times ? or maybe you don't have a clue what life it's even about.
Yes, wolf boy there is life out there and most likely they are laughing at us because pollution isn't just trash it is also comments like your arrogant uneducated one that disrupts the system of life that you live in; although I do forgive you for your naïveté endearments.
Congrats on your video. Very interesting. It makes me miss Carl Sagan who was so very good at explaining science and astronomy in a way that was easy for just about anyone to understand. I also want to mention this is my favourite time of year because the night sky seems so clear and sharp. My favourite constellaton is Orion. It fascinates me.
This video is gold! For h1pp1911, they dont teach you that in school cause they want us to be ignorant of those things... Like Copernic, they new that the earth was round, but they didnt want the population to open their eyes. Dont think that the NASA tells everything about their explorations... They = elite.
Keep watching thoses things!!! It probably wont help you to get a job, but the Lord will appreciate the fact that you are amazed by his work.
As vast as the universe is, you should look up the anthropic principle and see about the odds of the fine tuning for life of our particular planet. In perspective the odds of life forming naturally are infinitesimal even when compared to the size of the universe. This is argument that has convinced Anthony Flew a noted former atheist to consider that their might be a god.
1 light year is 6 billion miles. that might help tell you how big the universe is. so the universe, according to this video, is 468,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles across. that's 468 sextillion miles. i probably sound like one of those scientists he talks about in this video don't i? xD
Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
I almost cry when I see all the galaxies in the Deep Field images. How many civilizations are out there? How many more galaxies are there than we know of, because we could look deeper, and see even more than we thought could possibly exist. I think that by the time I'm 100, that we'll have seen much more. I hope there are other civilizations out there, to marvel at the grandure of the Universe.
By the way, what is the name of the song. I'd like to hear it. Great video.
You should look up Carl Sagan explaining the drake theory, if you want to understand better the odds, so to say of life forming else where in the Universe...
i just love how they are so sure to say that the size of the universe is 78 billion light years across loool like they could measure it. This is so ridiculous!
lool know one knows when did the big bang happened (if that in fact did happen) so how can scientist make estimations?!
It's all estimations, each one, dumber than the other, can't you see? it's so stupid, know one can estimate the immensity of the universe, cause it's beyond everything we can we imagine.
It's like science, a complete rubish man, cause its always being modified.
I just told you to "do the research." Try looking up "how do we know the size of the universe" on Google. The methods used to measure the universe are mathematical, and mathematics don't change.
This has got to be the best composed, narrated, and illustrated video relative to the subject of astronomy/cosmology on the Internet. I almost feel guilty for having watched it for free. Simply put, this video is absolutely phenomenal!

Good old Hubble. Love it. I think that "Hubble Ultra-Deep Field" image is tied with the first image of the globe of the earth for first place in humanity's most important image. That image also helped us realize how small, insignificant, and self centered we are are on this planet and in this spectacular Universe.

maybe "if" there's a god
he made the universe so big because we are not allowed to see whats beyond our own galaxy on other planets
maybe when we die we get transported or born onto another planet ( lets hope so)
and in my eyes its the only reason to make it so big
it will cost millions of years to travel with the speed of light to another galaxy right ?
so if we should get born or transported on another planet god should not wanted to let us know
