Food colouring is no good if you want to colour icing as it isn't strong enough. It should be colour paste. Wiltons is best and you can buy a box of 8 colours for approx £15-20 on ebay if you cannot buy in a local store... search "Wilton colour paste" it really does last ages and the colours are very vivid which is why you only need a couple of tiny bits to change the colour really well using a little cocktail stick x
Hi this is great just two questions
1. How many days advance can you make the roses?
2. How to you put them on the cake with out them coming off?

@danika725 The lady called it "GUM TRAG" it is a white powder called GUM TRAGACANTH and it makes the sugar paste harder once it has dried.
It gum is sometimes called "shiraz gum" , "gum elect" or gum dragon.
If you cannot get the product, you can try to get Tylose powder instead.
I hope that helps you.

@danika725 it was gum tragacanth... or tylose cmc powder... it is used to stiffen the icing..

Wow love how the rose looks at the end! By the way instead of the pocket can you use a zip lock bag and just cut off the sides as well?
