@parairchairbill They date back to the 1920's. Pine Bluff was platted in 1922 and the first cabin built was by Henry Alexander who bought 5 lots in February 1925. I do not know of any earlier photos than the mid 1920's that I can accurately date.
Thanks for the update. I will be at 147 Pine Bluffs most of the time between July 24 and July 31 this summer. If you are around I would like to meet you.
Have not forgotton about this. I will try to get over to my dads and scan them. Might even bring em up this summer on a zip drive. I'm over at the condos now next to The Point.
Dear Conservative Logic, My daughter and I are putting a history book together of Flag Point and would LOVE to see what old pics you have! How exciting! We have already gathered so much great info. I look forward to hearing from you.
@ConservativeLogic I would love to see some. My neighbor's Father built the first cabin on Pine Bluff Road North of the Point and still owns a home there. It is a special place. I met Tami and her husband who now own one of the homes in Flag Point and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. They are continuing the tradition of families who have fallen in love with the Lake.
My family had a place on the lake on Pine Bluffs drive for years. Before that backlot cabins. Before that we stayed at Birch Lodge and before that Burdells and before that my grandfather had to walk in to camp on the shores. Great memories. I wish I could afford it now. We still have a condo next to Flag Point it's just not the same though.....Best vacation spot around and i have been all over. I'm thinking about starting a new family tradition of renting a beachfront cabin once a yr.
We rec'd the pictures and letter today. Thank you so much! It's apparent from your letter how much you love higgins lake and cherish all the wonderful memories you hold in your heart. Please feel free to stop by if you're ever in the area. I'd love to show you the "lodge." Take care!
@366moore We won't likely be up that weekend, but I could arrange for a neighbor to show you the lodge. If you'd like me to email you some pictures of the inside, I'd love to do so. You may email me @ tamicallahan@comcast.net.
great! we are at 1169 Miners Run, Rochester, MI 48306. If you include a return address, I'll get them right back to you. Any and all pics you have of the flag point area would be fantastic! thanks! Tami Callahan
loved the video! we own a place within flag point club and are in the process of putting together a history book of the area. would it be possible to get a copy of some of your pics? I especially like the old photo of our lodge. thanks for sharing!!
This is a cool vid. I reconized the 1st pic with the tree leaning. That was down at the beach by little creek. My Grandparents bought lots from the state auction in 1946 or 47 and was done building "the cottage" by 1949 just up the road from that beach.
The photo comes from my Dad's best friend who at age 91 still lives at 147 Pine Bluff Road. Sadly my Mom and Dad have both passed and the home at 155 Pine Bluff is no longer owned by my family. The 4 generations of family friends is however, still intact. You might recognize the "barn" at Flag Point Association which is still there.
It has been a few years since I have been out by flag point, are you talking about that huge resort looking place out there? My granpa passed back in 1959 so my grandmother took care of the cottage until my brothers and myself could contribute. She has just passed here on 1/22/10 at 96 and 3/4's. and she had nt missed a beat. This past summer she had to made to the cottage at half dozen times, just loved the place as much when her and gramps finished it. It will be kept in the family.
The garage at Flag Point is part of the Flag Point association that consists of 7 lots that occupy the corner of Flag Point. It is next to the Condominium that is built on the old Hotel Berdel property. The new condos were built in the late 1960's.. In the video is a copy of the original sales receipt which I still have as well as the plot map of Pine Bluff which dates from 1922. Sorry to hear of your grandmother.
I like the old shoreline photos any idea what date they are. Would like to find some before the logging started. logging was completed by 1884.
