I agree , theres the paddel oil splasher on the valve side plus the centrifugul govener amongst the internal gears for the valves and the points cam also. It has to run valves at the bottom half that'll doughtlessly leak oil through to the cylinders. I belive you can't run it stationary at least the wrong way up.
i have 2 18hp opposed twin engines how to i make it so i can mount it on its side like a horizontal shaft? is there possibly a how to video out there whats it going to cost me some one message me back
@Gibby1776 You technically can run a vertical engine horizontally, but in real life it will blow. Why?? The oil lubrication system doesnt work at all when its on its side. Sounds easy, ends up blowing engines.
@Gibby1776 Your best bet is to just find a horizontal-shaft engine - the parts you'd need to convert a vertical to horizontal aren't available anymore. That said, it is possible. Blocks are almost the same (but will convert). You'd need the crankcase cover, sump, governor, oil pump, and all the associated fittings to convert it.
See for yourself - go to Briggs' site. Model number that contains a letter is a vertical shaft, all-numbers is horizontal (42A707 vs 421707, for example).
at least i can spell other words right. i think. i blew one of these up once. there was some popup problem with the piston rings i guess and it started knocking real bad and so i shut it off added some oil and 10 minutes in it started knocking again and the left hand rod came flying thru the block. the engines was in a condition known as a "fucked state"
im looking for one of these want one so badly my buddy had one and wouldn't sell it to me then he blew it up on his go cart running it upside down for fun
Briggs and Stratton Opposed twin Flathead. it's a 2 cylinder flathead engine. There were three versions of this engine which were the 40,42,and 46 CID versions.
that is a briggs & stratton opposed twin. unfortunately they are no longer produced. horizontals are hard to come by anymore. i managed to get my hands on one but it wasnt cheap.

ya, no shit. it depends on how long your stroke is, but seeing as briggs makes almost all their engines have the same stoke(distance the piston travels in a cylinder from TDC to BDC) that sounds about right
The right side spark plug is not tight

i was just trying to clear it up a bit. Not everyone understands engines that well. Dont really see the need to be like that (N)

size dosent effect horse power
size would effect more of the torque
