@blinstrub First of all you can't compare a Cayman to a 128i. The BMW 128i is only available in the US and this show is filmed in Britain. There is a 125i in Europe, but it only has 218hp, which is not enaugh to be compared to a 245hp Cayman, whic is also lighter.
Second of all you could compare a 135i to a Cayman, because they already said that the 135i costs 6000 Pounds less. And so what if the 135i is more powerful. it is 260kg heavier and has 2 more seats and a bigger boot than the Cayman.

This is bullshit, I have driven both cars and now own a Cayman and in my opinion, there was no question which car performed better (the Cayman). A real comparison needs to be made by a single driver, not two different people. I drove both, just as hard, through the Malibou canyons and the Cayman had much better handling and acceleration through the tight turns. Not to say the 135 wasn't an excellent car, but as a car lover, the porsche was by far the better car.

Buy some Porsche magazines and you'll quickly learn that Porsche is acutely aware of the perfect weight distribution of the Cayman, which is much more precise than the 911, and is the only reason why they don't offer a Cayman with a larger engine, as to not deflect any pride from their flagship car. Bottom line, if you drop a larger engine or a supercharger in a Cayman, it smashes a 911 on the track. Ask a porsche owner.

@nomainreason The Porsche may be a bit 'overpriced' but at least it doesn't have turbos and its intercoolers to maintain. Also, it seems to be more of a driver's car since it has more confidence around the corners but BMW does better in the straights.

i dunno if this answer our question, but I think that pretty much all of the old porsches were really good. my favourite 911s are the 993 and the 997 (2nd gen) model, i started to like the NEW cayenne. I HATE the 996, 1st gen cayenne and the first gen boxter and i dislike the cayman. like clarkson says, boxters & cayman show that you couldnt afford a 911 and you are unsuccessful about your life.

No, it just feels that way because it's got 420ft-lbs Tq. The 335i is a lot quicker than teh 335d and it's still a lot slower than a Porsche Cayman around the track.

IN a straight line sure you'd never get a 135i to out handle a Porsche Cayman. It would just be drag racing between corners trying to catch up. Regardless the Cayman is a billions times the better drivers car.

They are 3 different types of the Porsche Cayman... The standard Cayman, the Cayman S, and the Cayman R.
Two Types of the BMW 1 Series 128i, and the 135i
So the BMW is versing the least powerful Porsche in essence in this video.

Maybe grab a 1 series M coupe or just get a 335i, tune it and do the standard bolt ons, and in either of those situations, walk away knowing you have a car as fast or almost as fast as the Porsche, while having the ability to put a couple people in the back seat and saving money in the process. I drive a Porsche though, so no saying I'm biased!

This guy says that the porsche is $6K more than the bimmer??? Porsche cayman starts at $49K+... the 135i starts at $35K... thats a lot more than $6K... but either way the bimmer is way more car than the cayman

This is bullshit, I have driven both cars and now own a Cayman and in my opinion, there was no question which car performed better (the Cayman). A real comparison needs to be made by a single driver, not two different people. I drove both, just as hard, through the Malibou canyons and the Cayman had much better handling and acceleration through the tight turns. Not to say the 135 wasn't an excellent car, but as a car lover, the porsche was by far the better car.

@isekanone sorry dude, you obviously don't know anything about the cayman. Buy some Porsche magazines and you'll quickly learn that Porsche is acutely aware of the perfect weight distribution of the Cayman, which is much more precise than the 911, and is the only reason why they don't offer a Cayman with a larger engine, as to not deflect any pride from their flagship car. Bottom line, if you drop a larger engine or a supercharger in a Cayman, it smashes a 911 on the track. Ask a porsche owner.

Give me the built in latitude of forced induction programming and I'll tweak the suspension to suite. Much less expensive over all. You would have to be stupid beyond reason not to see it. @nomainreason The Porsche may be a bit 'overpriced' but at least it doesn't have turbos and its intercoolers to maintain. Also, it seems to be more of a driver's car since it has more confidence around the corners but BMW does better in the straights.

i dunno if this answer our question, but I think that pretty much all of the old porsches were really good. my favourite 911s are the 993 and the 997 (2nd gen) model, i started to like the NEW cayenne. I HATE the 996, 1st gen cayenne and the first gen boxter and i dislike the cayman. like clarkson says, boxters & cayman show that you couldnt afford a 911 and you are unsuccessful about your life.

Enough tinkering on it and the thing would be reeling in an AWE TT. Not to mention it makes for a bastard of a sleeper too! I've got a copy of European Car mag with two offerings from EAS. The M3 and the lil 135i. The 135i put down 432/453whp vs M3 610/430 crank. Not bad either way but you see where I'm going with this?

No, it just feels that way because it's got 420ft-lbs Tq. The 335i is a lot quicker than teh 335d and it's still a lot slower than a Porsche Cayman around the track.

@ivbeenshot Honestly, I don't know jack about drifting. But it is a huge thing in Japan where most everything is front wheel drive. Hence my question. Another question I have is what use is drifting in a race if the race isn't about drifting? I don't think many people buy a BMW or Porsche so they can drift it, so this test seems a bit silly to me. Unless I'm missing something here.
