Sony is covering up the fact that this rocket crashed. Notice that their footage suddenly cuts away. No footage of recovery... A real scandal to be honest. Great work by the students and the real builders of the rocket: The Rocket Mavericks. Sony needs to give money and step back next time. No more crappy product placements, no more filtering the truth. Only later when the rocket did fly properly (and hey rockets dont always work the first time) did Sony stitch in the new footage.
Just think, instead of the money used to fund our last war we could have used it to help educate more kids to become like these young brilliant minds.
Yeah... They should have just gone and stuck a GoPro Camera on it... Oh wait... that would mean that Go-pro would have gotten advertisement out of it... and Sony wouldn't have that seeing that this project was about Sony’s 'Rocket Launching Powerful' computers.
This is truly phenominal, I hope these young individuals understand what an amazing opportunity this has been. And I hope they never forget the kid they were when they launched; the best engineers seem to always have a place in their heart where an inner-child still thrives.
@ICEGTN Well, the boundary of space is actually closer to 328000 feet (100km) or 264000 feet (50 miles) if you prefer the American definition. And I'm not sure where to find it, but there is a video of the first amateur launch into space on the internet. I'm sure - I saw it myself, but several months ago.
all schools should have a rocket program, ive been lounching rockets for 50 years from the age of 12, the only thing is i think the rocket motor makers should reduce there prices on there motors so people like me dont have to make there own motors to obsorb cost,
Does anyone from SONY care to explain why you think continuing to lie about this project is acceptable? The rocket did NOT launch properly - it failed during launch. Do you really have no shame about this whole promotion scheme that used motivated young people to sell your products?
@wwwtotalitaerde USA isn't a paradise for human rights either, Russia is even worse, but South Korea is on a class of its own... dictatorships are terrible and it all starts with populism and revolutions. People give their freedom away for free without even knowing it. :(

You are lucky to live in the US. This is a list of open murders by the German BND which is the renamed GESTAPO:
Tron (internet activist),Karl Koch(political/internet activist),Heiner Gehring(author),Martina Pflock(political activist),Bernd Seiffert(human rights activist),Kirsten Heisig(author/judge),Uwe Barschel(politician),Jürgen Möllemann(politician),Fritz Bauer(persecutor of the Frankfurt Auschwitz processes),Markus Bott(human rights activist).
Umm... I thought the whole point was getting it to the moon... It didn't go to the moon... Sorry but this... is... fail. Just like sony- lots of hipe and then its just the same as everything else
Totally awesome. I noticed what looked like a burn-through failure, but whatever -- that happens all the time. These kids are awesome, and I wish them all the best in their careers.
This is the best project that Sony and Intel created for a year. The best thing is that Sony picked the best Computer Technicians and Expert Rocket builders.
Hi, can you further explain this launch? How do you define successfully launched? Because the rocket shredded and partially recovered, is that correct? I understand that the science channel may have paid you to not disclose information, but we are all curious. Thanks!
@thecaryrices Who gives a shit if the kids were 'marketed' by intel and sony. Do you think this project would have happened without funding from these two companies? Of course not. Kudos to Intel and Sony. You're a jackass.
wow this wonderfull.....guys,,,you have all of my respect....maybe..i am the only from my country(romania) who see this...i hope i'am not the only one...anyway...like i said..you have all of my respect..good jobs guys...
thats not fair they get free stuff and rewards for nothing. I'm a straight A student and am doing pre-calc/geometry in 10th grade. They should have picked me they think they're so special.
@iTehTunePawd Have you ever considered that it might have something to do with you spending your time on U-tube, and those kids spending their time in the classroom?
@eyespied1 Wow, so I have to spend my entire life 24/7 in a class room? last time I checked just because you watch A single video on Youtube, doesn't mean you spend your whole day on it... Oh, and it's Youtube... learn to read.
@jmar1371 Naww did someone be ashamed because they tried to make up stories about being part of something that they actually weren't? Gee, if I have to spend 24.7 in a classroom I guess I can't have my own bed, or ever see my family or have friends then. What a shame eh? at least I'm not that kind of looser who camps out in class rooms.
I have to say the team did a great job I know it can be very tough at times.
As a high school student, I know there is a thousand ways for something to go wrong. Currently I am working on a rocket that will reach an hight of 100,000 ft.
So watch the news, as our rocket goes up on the 6th of August at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Wish us luck!!!
I love rockets and watched every Apollo mission since the beginning and still get excited watching the shuttle and hope I live long enough to see us go to the moon again. Way to go kids maybe our space program still has a future .
it was cool that they launched it, but what made the original rocket launch amazing was that no one ever did anything like it before. The video was amazing, but all they did was recreate an experiment.
I feel really lucky to be in this time of era... I know what technology can give us in the very future, but im very happy to be in the year 2010... but I believe in the next 100 years... Technology will be unimaginable...
