OH YES!!!! My favorite Queen of House Music from my hometown - Chicago!!! Love this song!!! There's also the original mix (which was under Carl Bias featuring Liz Torres) and that one is excellent as well. Liz Torres' vocals were sampled by several electronic music acts - "No more mind games!" (in "Mind To Mind" by Joey Beltram & Mundo Muzique from Second Phase, 1991) and "You have to understand!" (by Altern 8 on "Real Time Status", 1991). That's what makes this song so different and unique :-)
As an original Chicago House DJ, Promos came out to DJ's in 1985 by Jesse Saunders at the Loop store in downtown Chicago and late 85 the song was all over the city, it was a hit everyone was playing in the streets, Clubs, and Basement parties.
@MrDJJuicey If you do a little research i think you'll find out you mean jesse jones and not jesse saunders. I was a regular at both loop and imports etc. miss those spots!
This is my cut!!!! I totally forgot about this song!!! Man this reminds me of going to house parties and doing the Tom & Jerry!!!!! Man I wish I could go back in time.
I never thought i would get to hear these smash jamz again ! Brings back memories of GARY and CHITOWN when i was a teen at House parties JACKIN IT UP ! Thank You Thank You Thank You !
who was at the aragon theater when she performed? there were latin kings there and harrison gents and tables and chairs flying. still a smashing concert. i was young then
Does anyone remember an old house song that went like this: >>>>Like a Religion like a source of power, that induces a certain stage--music magnetism pulling me to the beating of my mind out into inner space. Hey hey hey and take the magic of the feeling we were taught we should keep inside---whoa whoa there's no skeptism to this moment of feeling of the same maybe yours and mine mine mine......
If anyone is from chicago,,,remember The Riviera...J'anelles...The Club House...The Tunnel???? Those are just some of the back in the day clubs. There were dance troupes out like Te Culitos and others that used to have dance competitions...I am in NYC and they don't have anything on Chitown.
I use to dance with Liz Torres at the Paradise Garage in the late 80s a Latino Beauty. She had two Body Guards and they were black and like 7ft each no lie. Larry Levan gave it all he had that night. The music sounded different due to that bad ass system at The Garage!
Ya, 85, easily. I recall hearing this cut 4 da 1st time in a mix that I had just recorded off of WBMX 102.7 FM back in '86! I think it was Mickey "MIXXIN" Oliver, He mixed this cut with "OUR DARKNESS" FRIDAY NITE LIVE AINT NO JIVE! The memories...LOL Geeky me getting ready in the morning, while listening 2 this, 2 impess da ladies and then 2 shy 2 say any thing LOL Chicago SW side GAGE PARK 50TH Western
My brotha said 85..he is into house from back in the day. He got hundreds of mix cd/(tapes too lol)12". Humbolt park and Wicker park was poppin back then and northside.
There was a club called The Tunnel in Chitown he used to go to. I am glad this style is still underground and only House Heads know about it. The new stuff is not as good or classic as this. Ya tu sabe. That's why she is the Queen.
You are right-this came out in 1985 because I was working at NY Dept of Social Services that year only, and I was a member and regular at The Paradise Garage, where I saw Quest featuring Liz Torrez on vocals that summer. I left for college after that summer.
The original was released in 1985 and its the reissues that were pressed sometime between then and 1988.
A friend of mine from Chicago who used to distribute these back in the day also told me that the ones that credit Liz Taurus are quite possibly unofficial pressings.
Have a look at my page...Ive got the other version on Jack Trax up there.
