i just got a Shakespeare Axiom and its got a magnetic cast control. i did just as you did in your video but wen i tighten the cast control knob to its tightest and hit the button the bait still falls. What am i doing wrong?
@MrSnipe4hire If it's brand new then it might be missing a part that's inside the the cast control knob. It's hard to tell without looking at it. Take it back to the store and replace it or take it to a tackle shop and have someone take a look at it.
do you just push the buttononce, or hold it with your thumb as you cast, and do you have to use your thumb as a "brake" for the line? somebody told me"they think" I should, made a few great casts but usually after the 2'nd I get the backlash...thank's great vid. I'll watch it as I try it 2mrw.-
Question.. do you have to adjust the reel for every lure you put on. (buzzbait= heavier than worm) or is it set for good after you use the heavy bait?
@SURFnSKIM11 If the weight of the lure you change to is conciderably different then you should make an adjustment with the cast control knob and the break knob. But you shouldn't have to open the reel and move the break pads around.
The STX has centrifugal, and magnetic brakes. I have use one break without problems. I have heard many say it cause's a wobble, or makes it uneven, but it worked fine for me.
@BassSniperTV You are correct if you are talking about the newer STX but the one I had in my hand in the video is the older one and it only has the magnetic brakes. With anything that spins on a centeral axis if you make it off ballance it will wobble. You may not notice it but it does and in a reel you loose just a little distance at first and the more the lube wears down the more distance you loose.
Gotcha. Mine is a 2010 model, so I was like what?, only magnetic breaks!! LOL Thanks for the Reply. Still a good comparison. I want to make a comparison video with all 3 types. Magnetic, centrifugal, and one with both. Doing the advantages, and disadvantages of all 3. Theres not many videos on the tube to help people select a baitcaster. Just a ton of review's. IDK ma-bee one day...
Well done. Most people (like me at one point in time) who don't like baitcasters don't have them set up right and get frustrated with all the backlashes. After setting the reel up, it becomes a matter of practice, practice, practice and making those fine adjustments you mentioned.
Thanks. My buddy showed me how to set up my first bait caster last year. He must have seen your video, cause your spot on!
