If a boxer is mistaken as a pit bull, it's not because of the tail. It's because people don't know their dog breeds.

the only reason ppl crop the tails is cause boxers can have a problem called happy tail were they wag their tails so fast they break them. it can be very painful for them so most ppl just have them removed to prevent damage later in life. its a normal problem for them and can be very expensive if it happens alot.
Boxers are just wonderful dogs! I've had mine for 8 years now, and can't imagine life without him. I adopted him from a shelter where he was a seizure from an animal abuse case. You would never know it. He's the sweetest dog on earth!

boxers get their balance from their upper body...thats why they are called "boxers" because if the dog fights they actually use their upper body and their upper legs as if they are punching, and thats why you have to keep the dog constantly exercising,unlike pitbulls that have their balance in their tails. it doesnt really matter if you dock it or not but a docked tail boxer is worth more than one with a tail because they look much better without it
Maybe you should research it! IT isn't good for dogs to have their tails docked! I have two KC Registered Boxers and they have their tails and they are beautiful and happy!!

The tail isnt actually cut, they actually put a rubber band on it so the blood can't get to it, then it eventually falls off, if they cut it there would be blood everywhere and it wouldn't be a pleasant experience, and that brown stuff on the stump, is cartilidge.
yeah and being crazy super active dogs the tail would hit everything in sight! lol and the docking of the ears is good as well, my boxers rough play so much that the ears would get damaged is they were long

THAT'S not true. Why would it be cosmetic? Their tail's can cause spinal problems, even hip problems. It's better to crop them. I hate the idea of it but it's better in the long run.

@garfieldzgirl no its not illegal to remove their tails you just cant do it after the first week or its extremely painful and just plain wrong to do so. next time do it cuz the tails get extremely strong and hurt when they wack you, trust me, some of the rescues i get in have them cuz they were in puppy mills and they hurt if your trying to hold them down for shots and they are just whipping it around like crazy, not fun.
when we just got our boxer puppy, my little brother was 4. they are the kind of dogs when everyone goes to bed they walk around the house and check on each person to make sure they are safe. Great, great dogs.

Checking on everyone is the natural behavior of a well-raised dog. Sounds like both of you did an exceptional job. Boxers have such strong personalities though.
Oh yes, our boxer used to jump on the lap of my grandfather even though she is not a puppy anymore. Always fun to watch. 1st, she will sit on your lap, leaning on to you, then she will slowly slide down till she is curled up on your lap. by that time, it is all over. You wont stand up so soon, trust me xD

They only used to crop their ears and tails when they were hunting dogs to stop other animals grabbing them.
No need to crop them now however alot of people still do.

Their tails are so powerful that when they wag them it actually damages their spine. Which is why they cut them.
It then became part of the "beauty" of the boxer. It's cruel to cut them when they're young, but for the long run, its best for them.

Here in The Netherlands it's forbidden to cut their tails anymore. And I think it's more beautiful. They're ''complete'' again you know?
And my boxer doesn;t have any problems with his spine..and he's almost 6 now. SO I odnt think it can do any harm. =]

Yeah, we have banned tail docking over here in England. I have a 10 year old Boxer (with out a tail) and he's been doing fine. Bless him.
