Ican't stand it when westerners pluralize the word "Ninja" as "ninjas". The plural and singular are pronounced the exact same way in Japanese. It's like saying "Deers" instead of "Deer", ...completely stupid.
@MrTenshihanQuinn i am not saying this about u so don't get mad at me but i hate gajin that use the word ninja some ppl use it as a verb "its not ninja" i don't like the word ninja all together i use the word shinobi cause when u say ninja i think of a hollywood stunt double dressed in black
you DO realize that Shinobi no mono and Ninja, are BOTH pronunciations of the SAME KANJI ((忍び)
they are the very same word
you can attach all of the notions you WANT to the words, it still doesn't make them true, nor does it make using 'shinobi' without being followed by 'no mono' any more grammatical than saying ' it's not ninja'( apostrophe is mine, you missed it)
@Arteanor food for though ppl dont give 2 shits about proper gramer on the internet and if u want to say "no mono" all the time or u can use the term "ninja" and be like all the other 12 year olds that follow greg parks
@Arteanor I did some research cause i thought i was right so i looked into it and i am right the kenji for ninjitsu 忍 the kenji for shinobi 忍び the kenji for shinobi no mono 忍の者 also "no mono" is a modern term like in kendo there is a modern term "no kata"
@Arteanor yeah srry the power went out at my place and i was in a rush and yes 300 years is a long time think about the time in qustion when was ninjitsu most active
fujito was the last "KOGA" ninja! But ninjutsu lives on through masaaki hatsumi (iga) 34th generation and can be traced back! He recieved his sokeship from his grand father toshitisugu takamatsu and his asociates (togather the leaders of the 9 remaining schools of the iga!(proven)
@chocalot1 ♦ Toshitsuga Takamatsu is not Masaaki Hatsumi grandfather. There is no blood relationship between the two of them. And only 3 of the ryu-ha are ninjutsu schools in the Bujinkan. The other 6 are samurai traditions.
@chocalot1 Takamatsu Sensei wasn`t Hatsumi`s grandfarther.Takamatsu recieved his sokeship from his grandfarther Toda sensei.Hatsumi is not related to Takamatsu. And yes Hatsumi created the bujinkan from 9ryu.6samurai schools n 3ninja schools.Hatsumi only really teaches 7of the ryu.But out of the 6samurai ryu.3of them were used by ninja as well.Gyokko ryu n koto ryu.I`m not sure of the 3rd.
@ronzzo45 A tradition of identity is exactly that; a sense of who you are. If you've found that times have changed so much that there is no longer any place for you, there is no place for what you have to pass on, because no one will listen, or understand them the way you do, and in essence, it wouldn't pass on anyway, so to let it be mangled by someone who does not truly understand is to mangle yourself.
bugei ryuha daijiten third edition has a personal anecdote that was later removed telling of takamatsu making the art up out of childhood ninja games....
if you think you can argue any other school please try me.
bugei ryuha daijiten lists gyokko ryu as a verifiable koryu or koshijutsu and mutodori, and is also the backgone of all the Iga ninja arts. you can take your pick of Hatsumi, Tanemura, Manaka, or even Kaminaga Shigemi and Ueno Takashi since Koto Ryu was originally a ninja art.
sure does, can you substantiate that enough to get hatsumi into the Nihon Kobudo Shinkokai? i think he tried that already...
or do we just have takamatsu claiming to know a legitimate art alongside the one he admitted he made up... i wouldnt be inclined to believe someone who claims more than he can prove...
you're talking about hatsumi, I'm talking about the complete takamatsuden arts. gikan koppojutsu is considered taijutsu and ninjutsu, and is listed in the BRDJT. in other words, it's solid.
Takamatsu never said that he invented ninjutsu, ever. He rewrote many of the scrolls and changed some of the kata, and added new things and changed old things. Some cannot be verified yet, like Togakure, but others, like Gyokko ryu and Gikan ryu, can be proved beyond the shadow of a doubt. If it's in the BRDJT, it's accepted, regardless of what the ivory tower NKS thinks.
oh really? then i guess its also accepted that he said he made it up.... i asked you to be more clear what you are arguing... you have said you think it was never said.
so you are going to take a personal anecdote you were lucky to get, and dismiss it. never mind that watatani wouldnt have a reason to lie... or that he was a close friend of takamatsu... just ignore anything counter to ur point right? how are those earmuffs?
Watatani would not have listed any Takamatsuden arts if Takamatsu had said, "I made it up", plain and simple. That would have been contrary to the entire purpose of cataloguing the arts in the BRDJT. Takamatsu DID have to "fill in some gaps", and re-write several scrolls, and also made changes to the kata in accordance to the Kuki family. You're rewording a line about how ninja children started off playing simple games. Any art in the BRDJT is historically documented and safe.
so you are saying that watatani made up that takamatsu told him that.... thank you for your clarity, finally. there are plenty of arts that have shady pasts in the BRDJT.
you can of course cite a source for that last claim cant you?
any blanks filled in would religate takamatsu to the rank of gendai art. thank you for explaining that to be the case.
no holes in the linneage, just that some of the scrolls were lost and rewritten by Takamatsu, but since ninpo existed in kuden/okuden form and the scrolls are just "guidelines" for the kata, the arts were able to survive. If Takamatsu had told one of the authors of the BRDJT that he had INVENTED the art, he would have been discredited, and all the Iga-based arts such as Gyokko ryu, Koto ryu and Gikan ryu would have been removed from the 3rd edition. Yet, there they are, proven and documented
if there are no holes then why isnt he a part of the NKS? or the NKK??
so your saying he discarded the originals and just kept the new ones he made?? and you trust this story enough to spend thousands to learn the ryu's?
wow... and i thought creationists had blind faith....
i never said the ryu werent legit... merely that the links to said ryu are nonexistent... if they did, he would be on the NKS... which oddly you cant even take a guess at... fight the doubt, its ur only chance
Probably because he had to rewrite many scrolls due to WW2, and presented them to the Kuki family. Whether or not they are recognized by NKS or NKK is not important - they don't even recognize Takenouchi ryu, and you can't get more koryu than that. Some koryu haven't even applied to their organizations because they are known by reputation. The bottom line is, Gyokko ryu, Koto ryu and Gikan are recognized by the BRDJT, have elements of ninpo, and are verified.
the BRD recognize that he claims it... not that its been proven... the BRD hasnt examined hatsumi's scrolls either... he refuses to let them out of his possession.
and as i said... fine you argue they have elements, ok, now just prove the connection to them in feudal japan... ah wait... i asked that already... u ignored that and repeated yourself...
and please tell me why takamatsu wouldnt also keep the old copy... even if it was a little ratty..
Shinsengumi are the wolves of mibu before Japan became modernized or start to be. They were with the emperor and were helping them. They started with three leaders but Kondo became the only commander. They had multiple divisioins like 12 and they had amazing fighters such as Hijikata and Okita Soji. Hijikata being one of the vice commanders and okita the first division captain. Okita was a prodigy swordsman and was very young, he died from disease while hijikata was hardcore. ^.^
I'm talking about the real shinsengumi. The real Okita is my idol because he is one of the only people that are like me that are famous. And also, the shinsengumi did have ninja actually, though they were called spies.

food for thought, people don't listen to morons who mess up basic spelling and grammar, or that use foreign words incorrectly....
saying ninja isn't incorrect, did you miss that part???
i simply stated that if you want to stand here correcting somebody, do it with the CORRECT ANSWER, not a half assed one like yours.
greg park has been PROVEN to have no ninjutsu, just as the bujinkan has been PROVEN to have altered its schools to CALL THEM 'ninjutsu'....

@Arteanor I did some research cause i thought i was right so i looked into it and i am right the kenji for ninjitsu 忍 the kenji for shinobi 忍び the kenji for shinobi no mono 忍の者 also "no mono" is a modern term like in kendo there is a modern term "no kata"
helkdona226 6 months ago
@helkdona226
"i am right" no, you aren't let's show how.
"the kenji for ninjitsu 忍 "
KANJI and you wrote Shinobi, also pronounced Nin. you forgot 術 which is the KANJI for Jutsu.
" the kenji for shinobi 忍び the kenji for shinobi no mono 忍の者"
but you are FORGETTING, that shinobi is a VERB it means 'to steal in'
i however did use the wrong kanji before, seems my clipboard had issues.
"忍の者" =shinobi no mono=ninja
"also "no mono" is a modern term "
HAHAHAHAHA 300+ years is Modern to you???
