Also, this same guy said that all of SP's songs sound the same? Annie Dog vs Bullet with Butterfly Wings. I am One vs Mayonaise. That commentor is an ignorant fool.
I'm going back through the comments here, and there's some guy saying that SP didn't have a good album after Mellon Collie? Adore was arguably the best album by the Pumpkins. Great lyrics, great melodies, and then the live versions were just soooo good. Also, this same guy says Nirvana influenced more bands than the Pumpkins. I have a feeling people say they're influenced by them simply because they feel they have to be. Because they're a classic band. I like Nirvana but they aren't as gd as SP
My friend and I earlier today was talking about our undying love for the Smashing Pumpkins. During my converstion with him I started thinking how awesome it is to know another kid that is a huge Pumpkins fan. A couple of years ago I was the only teen i knew that like the Pumpkins.
@newtronn1project how do playing for money and having a garage have anything to do with this subject? billy has shown his worth in the music business. you have yet to show yours. I'm 15. So how about me? I'm in school and have no time for trying my hand at a business as shaky as the one for making music...
@techy75 you play for yourself...Surely?! Anyone who "thinks" they are automatically good enough for the music industry is either very good or very stupid.
@livingthruchemistry since when did I ever mention that I was good enough for the music industry? Reread my comments and reply with a more valid argument...
This is obviouly not the Band Rhinosaurus from the late sixties, so anyone can use anyone's name for their title ...slight copyright infringement, I would say
Billy Corgan is one of my biggest musical inspirations. Simply writes awe inspiring music. My fav pumpkins albums. 1. Siamese Dream 2. Mellon Collie 3. Gish all are fantastic
what amp settings does he have to make the solo sound the way it does when he plays the fast part? i cant figure out how to get that fuzzy sound tht he has on that part
@easternmind No, he wasn't using Big Muffs at this point. I forget his gear before Siamese Dream because I read about his gear way back in 1993 or 1994 in Guitar World or one of those magazines. I forget what he said he used, but it was Big Muff.
anyway what I was saying about the pumpkins is that no one can copy the pumpkins sound, a real band not a cover band of course people from a cover band can copy people which is no real talent but none the less most the pumpkins records are so complex, and how do you love the pumpkins if you said "come on zeitgeist and machina suck my left nut..." stop lying and commenting on something you cant really back up thats all I have to say because its annoying
ur fuckin annoyin, u never had to butt in on my conversation, if u werent lookin for an arguement, ur a retard... n i mean yo i bought zeitgeist n machina, machina i hated really... zeitgeist was good for like half a year, n then every song just started sounding the same... n im not talkin cover band either, im talkin about tryin to sound like em, its hard cause all their songs are very similar, basically same drums (im a huge jimmy fan) but the only different song is zero and crash car star
ya, hes a good drummer, but me being a drummer (i have 9 years of experience) u listen to his stuff all he does it that high-hat beat like this song, or the ride beat with the foot-taps on the high-hat with the off beats on the snare. im not saying he's bad, cause he's great at those beats, i just never heard him do anything other than that; besides for like zero, n thats not even a good drumming song. im not dissing him, cause hes my favourite drummer
man you're talking BULLSHIT, you don't know anything about drumming and music if you are really believe in what you said... I'm a drummer, guitarist and basist too, Jimmy is one of my favourite drummers because he's playing isn't static, he has a lot of great ideas, and Incredible technique! And you can't even write "hi hat" corectly LMFAO. I love Nirvana but sorry, for me Smashing Pumpkins is better band... look how much bands copy Nirvana... and who copy Smashing Pumpkins?
Nobody... cause nobody can do that... they created their own AMAZING sound and it's one of the examples that says that SP is one of the greates band ever... Emotions in their music unfathomable... and you newbie, show what you got at drums if you're be able to criticise Jimmy's drumming...
haha sure, message me ur email address n i'll send u any of my songs, or if u want i'll do a cover of a pumpkin song... n if u think ur better than me, i'm very up to the challenge... n smashing pumpkins, the silversun pickups copied the sound fine, n im not a newbie i just am self taught so i dont know terms... n people copy nirvana cause they want to cause theyre one of the greatest bands. smashing pumpkins are very talented but the song writing is no where near as good as nirvana...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow

alright... u say i have to fight when your the one ranting with thousands of comments(which i did not read about 3/4 of em cause there was so many) to prove one point. n u said my comments are irritating, e tu? Look im sorry if i offended you, but this argument is never gonna get settled cause were both big music lovers with two different views, so lets call this at end.
u can post one last comment if u want just cause it seems like ur the person who wasnts to get the last word, but im done with u, im not even gona bother reading it.
wow your right I do want the last word but he's not genius he just knew how to make catchy sounds and it doesnt matter if he said he rather not die by a bullet to the head its ironic though, he was so pumped up with drugs + depressed and hated himslef=sucide, thats obvious thats all I have to say
oh yeah, of course. jimmy definitely laid down the drum tracks. its just that billy was a recording nazi and laid down all the guitar and bass tracks exactly how he wanted. theres an interview out there somewhere where he talks about it
haha, recording nazi thats great.... but i dun blame him, cause james and (im not sure who the bassest was at that time) weren't too good.... and with my band i got, im better then my bassest and drummer, so i do all the recordings alone, and it goes so much faster and its easier (and i sing and guitar)..... i guess its just one of those, perfectionist things... like wen u write a song u want it to be exactly how u imagine it... u dun want other people ruining it... i dunno, lol
yeah man thats exactly it. a genius with a vision wouldnt have it any other way. ...so, anyone out there want to agree with the fact that corgan's incredible rocking powers trumps kurt's novelty alternative act?
i kno this is gona start a fight, but i'm a huge nirvana fan, so i gotta say kurt wins lol... ya billys an overall better musician... but kurt changed rock forever.... SP has such a unique sound that no one could really grow off of it... nirvana, spread branches of inspiration all over.
to me, what made nirvana catch the ears of the masses was their simplicity. very simple lo fi sound with simple catchy melodies and simple solos to go along with them (most of em just went along with the vocal melody). Billy's rock was just too complex for the masses to comprehend (yes, i know that's quite ignorant and probably false)
lol, i get what your saying... but the other problem with billy is that he went down hill really badly.. like there wasnt a good album from him after mellon collie... your argument could be is that kurt died.... but kurts last song was you know your right, so i think kurt was going to have great potential writing more albums.
what? kurt didn't kill himself for that reason, there was no reason, cause he didn't kill himself... if you want proof foment back, I'm not gonna go into now, but come on zeitgeist and machina suck my left nut... I consider that running out of ideas, when your songs you make are no longer good
come on he was fucking running out of ideas and was depressed so he killed himself wow your dumb, I guess you one of those douchbags that thinks Courtney Love did it or whatever Billy kept coming up with ideas for his fans whether it would be good or bad and Zeitgeist has "Doomsday Clock" which is good and "Tarantula" so it doesnt really suck Billy would eat your shitty ass band up, dont get mad because your jealous
o ya thats defnitly y he killed himself... it wasnt cause of his unbearable stomach pain or the fact that heroin is a terrible drug. n also if he did kill himself, y did it take courtney and her search teams 3 days to find him in their own house. anyway, im not jealous of billy, cause i love the pumpkins, y would i be jealous, and the fact is that nirvana influenced over hundreds of bands... who did the pumpkins influence that got anywhere.... silversun pickups? theyre not timeless like nirvana.
are you serious what you think she is automatically thats he's in his house? and plus it was a project that micheal stipe had to pull Kurt out of his misery not killing himself but to work with him making an album but he killed himself nirvana has influenced a lot of bands because their songs are soooooooo easy to play and sound cool so a bunch of bands started trying to play a bunch of power chords and sounded like shit anyway and no one can copy The Smashing Pumpkins there music is too complex
well thats where u'd check first, especially if u went to the extreme of hiring a search team.... and people could "copy" the pumpkins, its just that so much of it sounds the same that, when your trying to copy it, it sounds just like any of their other songs, i know, im a song writer, i wanted a pumpkins sound, but everything sounded the same, cause they use such basic chord transitions..and stipe doin the project with kurt had nutin to do with him tryin to stop his suiceide, they were friends
n i dun wanna fight with u about this shit no more, cause u obviously dunno much about music, plus u share a complete different view of it if u do know anything.. w/e man
I dont know much about music? your the one saying stuff like Nirvana is better than the pumpkins, the only reason people beleive that is because Nevermind sold a bunch of records that topped the Billboard charts which was only a fluke Kurt Cobain even says he wasnt that good, and yes stipe tried to stop Kurt Cobain because he wanted to kill himself so bad so obviously you know nothing your talking about newsflash he hated himself
kurt says he wasnt good cause he was modest, like any other musician would say with dignity, he was a genius when it came to writing music, ok bleach wasnt very genius( i love it), but stuff from nevermind n in utero were pretty genius, ya they were just verse chorus method, but what band doesnt use that to make a catchy song (other than radiohead) . n btw kurt even said in an interview he rather not die by a bullet to the head, he rather go wasting on drugs, he said it was pointless to get shot
i love it too bad its all gone now and all we are stuck with now is the new "smashing pumpkins" i really hope james and d'arcy join the band again its not the same without them altough the chances of that happening are slim to none=[
pumpkins arent the sort of band to fit into a genre but theyre well not grunge if they were to be put into one. theyre just fucking amazing, who cares what genre!?
it doesnt matter, if it was grunge or not,the only thing that matters is what it sounds like and how it makes you feel, and if its good or not. you know its a good song when you know exacly what they were feeling when they wrote it.
and billy is a fucking guitar god. quite possibly the most underrated guitarist ever. especially during these days. too bad cobain killed himself and got all the attention.
if they weren't grunge then what were they? they weren't metal, classic rock, punk, rap, country, or anything else really. they were grunge. they have the clothes, the hair, the marshall stacks, and the fender guitar to back it up too.
They wore hippy clothes instead of dirty flannel shirts.
They weren't afraid of the mainstream. Billy Corgan likes pop music.
Billy Corgan can shred his ass off.
They sang introspective, heartfelt lyrics instead of disenchanted cynicism (which came with Mellon Collie, a double concept album which couldn't be further away from grunge).
Marshall stacks + Fender guitars = half of the bands in the 20th century.
The Smashing Pumpkins were alternative rock, period.
what a great pumpkins song. one of my favorites by them. the studio version gives me chills. this band was quite possibly the best of all the grunge bands and other grunge bands often admit to them being the best.
This is excellent. It's amazing the way Billy excelled. This isn't the best performance, but still an awesome song. You can clearly see this is early Pumpkins and should be cherished by any fan of the band. Thanks for posting this.

It sounds like he's using some sort of fuzz pedal, along with high gain settings on the amp ( high amplitude of the original signal by the amp).
Good Luck achieving the SP 90s rock tone!

the lyrics of nirvana and sp came from the writer's heart and past experiences.

kurt says he wasnt good cause he was modest, like any other musician would say with dignity, he was a genius when it came to writing music, ok bleach wasnt very genius( i love it), but stuff from nevermind n in utero were pretty genius, ya they were just verse chorus method, but what band doesnt use that to make a catchy song (other than radiohead) . n btw kurt even said in an interview he rather not die by a bullet to the head, he rather go wasting on drugs, he said it was pointless to get shot

I definitely like this version of Rhinoceros. As usual, the solo was great, and the outro solo was just perfect for the song. Thumbs up!

and no that wasnt some eddie van halen shit, that was some 1990 young corgan shit. much better, too me.
kurtcobainsbrain49 4 years ago
it doesnt matter, if it was grunge or not,the only thing that matters is what it sounds like and how it makes you feel, and if its good or not. you know its a good song when you know exacly what they were feeling when they wrote it.
kurtcobainsbrain49 4 years ago
Was that an Eddie Van Halen finger tap?
BillyDreamer2 4 years ago
and billy is a fucking guitar god. quite possibly the most underrated guitarist ever. especially during these days. too bad cobain killed himself and got all the attention.
LostSoul9991313 4 years ago
if they weren't grunge then what were they? they weren't metal, classic rock, punk, rap, country, or anything else really. they were grunge. they have the clothes, the hair, the marshall stacks, and the fender guitar to back it up too.
LostSoul9991313 4 years ago
They're not from Seattle.

The Pumpkins were NOT a grunge band. And yup this song is sweet.

what a great pumpkins song. one of my favorites by them. the studio version gives me chills. this band was quite possibly the best of all the grunge bands and other grunge bands often admit to them being the best.

This is excellent. It's amazing the way Billy excelled. This isn't the best performance, but still an awesome song. You can clearly see this is early Pumpkins and should be cherished by any fan of the band. Thanks for posting this.
