@herrveidt If you look on our channel page, there are around 75 minutes of clips, and a rough assembly that we have made in order to raise funds to produce a feature length documentary from them and our interviews- hope that you enjoy them!
This as amazing to watch. Natalie was so beautiful. Christopher Plummer is so young in this and Tuesday looks like a kid. Who was the young man with Juliet Mills at the end?
WHAT a great video! So nice of you to share it - I just love Natalie Wood and it's really cool to see this home made movie - was this at her beach house, or someone else's place - I know she was always friends with Sal Mineo and sometimes called him "my buddy" since their days from REBEL - I know Chris Plummer was her Daisy Clover co-star ~ was this right after that film? I love this -
Is it just my imagination or is Sal Mineo picking up one heck of a surfer specimen at :25? Interesting--who knows who hooked up at these gatherings--though that was not their purpose to be sure.
My gosh that is robert walker, jr and Juliet Mills at 2:05!! Everybody popped out of the wood work for R.'s get togethers, it appears. In fact, did anyone NOT show up???
maybe you guys will do a docu. of gay H'wood folk mingling with every one else in the 60's. and living their lives---taking out garbage, giving parties, paying bills, reading scripts, doing docus (yes)--it might just be an enlightening for one and all.
@windstorm1000 It's a very important part of the story- they were the vanguard of the LGBT AND the Civil Rights movement. Think of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner! Hollywood changed America's attitudes in so many ways. Only wish that Stanley Kramer was at the parties too!
Roddy's hot dog parties on Sun. were VERY popular with all H'wood--didn't have to dress up, could be themselves and just have fun. Roddy was a genius that even stars need a break from their personas.
@windstorm1000 You are spot on correct! He was also one of the most loved guys in the entire creative community! BTW- I'm the grandson of actor/director Abner Biberman, and grand nephew of Herbert Biberman (one of the Hollywood 10). Roddy was a close friend- that's we he trusted me with his footage, and no one else!
@soapbxprod wow! thank you for sharing!! I bet you could write a book! ITs fun seeing all these stars, hollywood personall just being themevles and having fun. Wonder whey no one has a place for H'wood to hang out now--not imaginative I guess. I think there were more unique personalities in H'wood then.
@windstorm1000 Actually- we are professional documentary filmmakers- just look us up on the iMDB- Luke Sacher & Carole Langer. @soapbxprod ~ I'm posting all of these to my FB page, and my movie-loving friends are enjoying them as much as I. Carol and Luke, this is an act of love on your part, and you are bringing precious enjoyment to countless people!
@soapbxprod ~ You should see the reactions I'm getting on Face Book! I'll give you a jingle on the weekend; we have much that we can talk about. In addition to the oooh's and aaah's of appreciation, there's a lot of "Who is that on the chaise?" and "Who's that blonde?". There is one film where George Cukor is talking (as usual, very animatedly!) to a couple in a corner, on Roddy's patio. I can't tell you, off the top of my head, which film it's on, but I'll bet you can tell me who the couple is!
@edwardjames50 Huzzah! Just sent you a message- can't wait to speak to you this weekend- Juliette Michaud, one of the foremost critics in France, is publishing an article about the footage in December or January in L'Officiel in Paris!
@edwardjames50 I'm sure that I can help with identifying the couple with whom George Cukor is talking- bet it's James Fox or Richard Attenborough with a lady "to be identified at a later date"!
@caviwavi Yes- his name is Robert Walker Jr., son of Jennifer Jones and Robert Walker. He also appeared on an episode of Star Trek as the main Guest star. You can Google them both. RW Senior was an important actor, starred in Strangers on a Train- among many others.
This smile 00:04... *-* It's so amazing to see Christopher Plummer having fun with friends in this home video. Natalie Wood was so beautiful! @konga5 They were SO democratic and middle class! Downright upright people- please watch our offline assembly here on our channel- Hollywood 1965- it will give you a better perspective! Thank you for your comments, and for watching!
So laid back, so totally unpretentious, so refreshingly normal-two things become readily apparent: a camaraderie & almost everyone smokes. Sure looks like Jack Warden @ 1:55 (who, along w/ Paul Newman, & the fickle hand of fate, narrowly escaped death during the Second World War.) What a sad & tragic end some of these folks had. But here, on the beach at Malibu, in the summer of '65, their friends enjoying life.
Thankyou so, so much! These videos are wonderful. I just adore Natalie and it's amazing to be able to watch her and the others in such a candid way :)
These clips are amazing. Thank you so much for sharing them. It's hard to stop watching them and think about all these great people who are no longer with us. I noticed one of my favorites, Jack Warden, near the end of the clip.
Another quick question. Does anyone know the street address of the Roddy McDowall beach house this was filmed at? Is it still there or am I being romantic and naive!
@BroadwaySucks I have been trying to out, too. All I have been able to learn is that it was located in what is now the Malibu Colony (on Malibu colony Road, if you want to google map it and zoom in to look at the area today).
Some have mentioned Richard Hatch in this clip, but I didn't see him. I just noticed the guy in bright yellow sweater. (I had to pause at 1:03.) Resembles Hatch, but I'm pretty sure it's Tim Matheson. He shows up in other clips, playing volleyball I believe. Now I'll have to watch them all again. LOL
@ricola3333 It's probably not Richard Hatch, but the guy with Roddy McDowall at :23 looks more like Hatch than Bobby Sherman, who lots of other people seem to think it is. Bobby Sherman had a very distinctive mouth and smile that this fellow does not have. He's probably some unknown.
@soapbxprod May I just say thank you. I have watched most of the home movies, and have to say it shows quite a contrast from the stars of the past compared to todays stars. These videos show a neighborhood type atmosphere, where friends get together for family type parties. Todays celebs, via paparazzi, tabloids and entertainment shows give a perception of ego driven, spoiled, rich kids who need to be in the spotlight. Watching these, show at that time, normalcy, fun, and close friendship.
@cagnazzo82 That's the entire purpose, my friend! I was 5! I could have been one of those kids playing on the beach! In fact... I was... just not here! Down the beach in Santa Monica...
@midtownp Wait till you see the MASTER tapes that we will use for the feature film! These are just composite window dubs! We have Digital Betacam masters- 50 percent higher resolution! Plus, you're looking at H.264 compression for YouTube! Your eyes will drop out!
What a gorgeous gay gathering, more please....I lived in Woodland Hills in the 1970s on Mrs Beechy's estate in her guest house. John Gavin had lived there in the 1950s as her guest. He came to the door one morning in January, 1974 to have a look once more. He was so polite, SO tall, and handsome. And that is as good as i got HOllyWood star wise; well done YOU... soapbxprod
@soapbxprod Well, in 1965 the word GAY still could have been used with more than one meaning to some; Sal Mineo & Roddy McDowall & Rock Hudson would have long known the 2nd(now the only meaning). I meant gay as in both: a delightfully gay time with some gay individuals.. Now John Gavin,1st Janet Leigh, a STAR being killed in the middle of a movie was for me the Shocker of Psycho. 2nd Don't forget his other great films: IMITATION OF LIFE, and 2 biggies: Midnight Lace & Thoroughly Modern Millie.
@douglasokc I'm only trying to be gracious- please don't think that I meant to deride your comment! We all want to remember these stars in the best light! They deserve it! And thank you for your kind words!
@soapbxprod Thanks, i just spent 90 minutes watching the LANA TURNER bio. In a word: WoW. that was lovely; thanks for telling me about it. As a kid Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth were the top two stars of Hollywood to me, with Lana making the top ten. Now an adult, i see Lana making it into the top 5 at least. She was a powerhouse of the 1940s/50s/&60s; and this film sure as shit shows it. well done you.....that was great story telling and important history.
@douglasokc If you like the Lana show, please look at our 1999 four part biography of the Rat Pack here on our channel! Ava is a big part of that- obviously! So glad that you enjoyed Lana! She lost to Joanne Woodward (the 3 Faces of Eve) the year that she was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Peyton Place.
It would be great if you could ID and list everyone in the description. These are really fun. Makes me want a beach house in Malibu. Thanks for sharing!
@cherylbeee Isn't it WONDERFUL? Thank you! We greatly appreciate your support and enthusiasm! My absolute favorite actress of all time is NATALIE WOOD!
@stullyo2003 Yes! That summer he was working on Inside Daisy Clover with Natalie Wood, Robert Redford, and Christopher Plummer. BTW- I'm the grandson of actor/director Abner Biberman.
@soapbxprod Oh yes i adore them!!!!! =) I love them both in Rebel Without A Cause it's a shame James Dean passed away before these home movies were taken. There is definitely something missing. Im sure if he had lived, he would also be there with them to, having a good time in Malibu! =)
@soapbxprod Thats really something =) How neat is it to be related to a hollywood icon =) Lucky you I never heard of him, thought he looks very familiar.
This stuff is great...how young and beautiful these stars were...even Jack Warden! I would love to see more...

Sal Mineo had a smoking hot body...too bad he was murdered by a male prostitute!
eddy909100 5 months ago
@eddy909100 He was way more than that- one of the great actors of his generation.
soapbxprod 5 months ago
Laugh every time Sal Mineo gives him the salute. A New York boy for sure.

Who is the fully clothed blond guy with Sal?
Also, do we know who was holding the camera in these films? Roddy, or maybe an assistant?
MrBadguitar 6 months ago
@MrBadguitar Roddy shot virtually every frame! Except the shots of him- think that Ed Rosenthal shot those.
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@MrBadguitar Don't know who's with Sal though...
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@MrBadguitar Sure looks like a young Richard Hatch to me.

These clips are amazing. Thank you so much for sharing them. It's hard to stop watching them and think about all these great people who are no longer with us. I noticed one of my favorites, Jack Warden, near the end of the clip.
thedove76 6 months ago
@thedove76 Wasn't he great! What a career the guy had! The Verdict with Paul Newman!
soapbxprod 6 months ago
Another quick question. Does anyone know the street address of the Roddy McDowall beach house this was filmed at? Is it still there or am I being romantic and naive!
BroadwaySucks 6 months ago
@BroadwaySucks It's right on the main drag on Malibu- but long gone... bet some enormous mansion sits there today...
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@BroadwaySucks I have been trying to out, too. All I have been able to learn is that it was located in what is now the Malibu Colony (on Malibu colony Road, if you want to google map it and zoom in to look at the area today).
DynapubsA 6 months ago
@DynapubsA Yes! Colony Road for sure!

Can someone please add some bitchy dialogue to these clips? LOL!!

LOL
Thank you, thank you again!
ricola3333 6 months ago
@ricola3333 Sorry! Tim Matheson would have been around 11 years old in 1965! Might be Troy Donahue?
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@soapbxprod Tim Matheson was born in 1947, so he would be 18 here. He's also seated (no shirt) at right at just 10 seconds into cilp.
ricola3333 6 months ago
@ricola3333 I stand corrected! Brava! Thank you again!
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@ricola3333 One is Hatch and one is Matheson. Matheson has dark hair, Hatch is blonde.
elfinmajictime 6 months ago
@ricola3333 And THANK YOU! So MUCH!
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@ricola3333 It's probably not Richard Hatch, but the guy with Roddy McDowall at :23 looks more like Hatch than Bobby Sherman, who lots of other people seem to think it is. Bobby Sherman had a very distinctive mouth and smile that this fellow does not have. He's probably some unknown.
DynapubsA 6 months ago
@soapbxprod May I just say thank you. I have watched most of the home movies, and have to say it shows quite a contrast from the stars of the past compared to todays stars. These videos show a neighborhood type atmosphere, where friends get together for family type parties. Todays celebs, via paparazzi, tabloids and entertainment shows give a perception of ego driven, spoiled, rich kids who need to be in the spotlight. Watching these, show at that time, normalcy, fun, and close friendship.

@CBEntr Exactly! Democratic, middle class! Drinking Bud from the can! They don't make them like this anymore!

Quite a number of these people died before I was born. This honestly feels like about as close to time traveling as it gets.

And that is as good as i got HOllyWood star wise; well done YOU... soapbxprod
douglasokc 6 months ago
@douglasokc Not a gay gathering- a gathering of the greatest stars of the era. John Gavin costarred with my adopted auntie Janet Leigh in Psycho!
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@soapbxprod Well, in 1965 the word GAY still could have been used with more than one meaning to some; Sal Mineo & Roddy McDowall & Rock Hudson would have long known the 2nd(now the only meaning). I meant gay as in both: a delightfully gay time with some gay individuals.. Now John Gavin,1st Janet Leigh, a STAR being killed in the middle of a movie was for me the Shocker of Psycho. 2nd Don't forget his other great films: IMITATION OF LIFE, and 2 biggies: Midnight Lace & Thoroughly Modern Millie.
douglasokc 6 months ago
@douglasokc I'm only trying to be gracious- please don't think that I meant to deride your comment! We all want to remember these stars in the best light! They deserve it! And thank you for your kind words!
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@douglasokc I made the Lana Turner Bio for TCM- it's here on our channel Page!
soapbxprod 6 months ago
@soapbxprod Thanks, i just spent 90 minutes watching the LANA TURNER bio. In a word: WoW. that was lovely; thanks for telling me about it. As a kid Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth were the top two stars of Hollywood to me, with Lana making the top ten. Now an adult, i see Lana making it into the top 5 at least. She was a powerhouse of the 1940s/50s/&60s; and this film sure as shit shows it. well done you.....that was great story telling and important history.
douglasokc 6 months ago
@douglasokc If you like the Lana show, please look at our 1999 four part biography of the Rat Pack here on our channel! Ava is a big part of that- obviously! So glad that you enjoyed Lana! She lost to Joanne Woodward (the 3 Faces of Eve) the year that she was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Peyton Place.
