  • Thanks for this helpful video - I have been trying to get a camera with Time lapse for a while and judging by the looks on the faces of every store assistant I asked - you'd have thought I was asking for a camera that could fly me to the moon and back!

  • @Talalay Do a search on "Time Lapse Device" and you will see my video of a device that gives any digital camera time lapse capability. If you are interested contact me. I have a production model almost ready for sale and it is a lot less than buying a new camera.

  • Thanks for sharing this info.... great work

  • this video is so badass...thanx a lot man

  • what kind of wine works best with time lapse? (seriously, thanks for posting these!!!)

  • Seeing as you took the time to shoot edit and post this, the lease I can do is take the time to post a response.

WELL DONE, good info and I am moving on to part 2 !! thank you !

  • Thanks so much for sharing your info man, seriously.

  • Well done. Thanks for the info. I'm using a Sony video camera connected to a MAC with some software called "iStopMotion" which does timeleapse.

  • This is great! Keep it up!

  • Jay, great idea and it should make a nice series. It will definitely show people how easy and fun time-lapse is to make.

  • Nice vid Jay, Good that you have created this video for people that are new to this. Looking forward to part 2.

  • Very nice video....but we need you to be more drunk next time!

Hopefully, you will work your way up to panning HDR time lapse lol.

  • A little pinot noir keeps me from talking too fast... LOL

Eventually I could get to that point. Lots of ground to cover in the mean time!

  • Really appreciate all the effort you put into helping others discover time lapse. I've been having great fun with it lately and owe alot of it to your videos. Don't know why you're on youtube though, the quality sure sucks.

  • No prob. I do my best. Ill admit i like the low quality limitation of youtube... It discourages 'borrowing' so don't have to slap some sort of watermark on it. Know what I mean?

  • This is a great idea, look forward to part 2. My setup is basic, canon s40 digital camera + Remote Capture software + laptop. You must have been a bit tipsy by the end with all that wine.

  • My sony dcr-try 900 has a time lapse feature but the picture is pretty crap.

  • In 'still mode' or to miniDV? My JVC gr-x5 has an interval timer in still mode that goes down to 15 seconds per frame but like you say the quality is not up there. Bottom line is that it's still a 'video native' CMOS 'low resolution' sensor that is being interpolated.

  • Oh lord that camera doesn't take jpg stills, it's from like 98.

It just has a setting that will turn the record on for .5 seconds for a chosen interval.

  • Great show! I would like to add; if the user has a chance and they're using NTSC, they should run the video through a de-interlacing filter.

My timelapses are done using my Canon Rebel XT, using Granite Bay software to control the camera. I plan on getting a point/shoot camera eventually, rather than the SLR, since the shutter is only rated at some 50,000 shots, and I've used almost 10,000 so far.

  • There are also the new camcorders that use an internal hard disk that could be transfered to the PC in a short time.

  • True... but the disc consumption is up there for sure. Good solution nontheless.

  • Hi i use Canon Rebel XT ,iv shot 60,000 plus

shots and is working well,it keeps going,i use The Pclix LT100 Time-Lapse Trigger and 4 gig card it can run up to 4 hours mobile, you can set up a Time-Lapse shoot in about 2 min.

  • Exactly. I'll be discussing that type of solution in Part 2.

  • I like using the computer/GBT because the picture count always starts at 0001, without incrementing my camera's internal count. The problem I have is the battery. It's only good for around 600 shots, so I'm going to have to get a car/AC power supply. Another problem is the minimum interval end up being ~3seconds. I want to get a 'Powershot' series camera dedicated to this eventually.

  • papydasy, I use the same setup and I couldn't agree more. That Pclix trigger is the best and super easy to use. My dog time-lapses I set up the night before (what time to start and how many pictures to take). Then I went home. The Pclix did all the work. I just came by the next night and picked everything up.

  • Can't wait for Part 2 of the video. Awesome job so far explaining timelapse!

  • yeah

can't wait for part 2 too!

    sick ass video

    drink more, man! haha

  • thanx for the nice explanation!!

i am still a big fan of option#2 (video-camera). since i am mostly doing 20min up to 60min captures, it is the best option for me. but you're right!! it would be a pain in the ass to do a 24h timelapse with a videocamera.

  • Never seen you before, but you have a good technique for explaing things
