What I find amazing is that top of the pops always has the best live performances of all the bands. What's even more amazing is that it's always fully live, no dubs or mixed or any special tricks. I wonder if they just have amazing acoustics or something to record the songs.

It's not fully live. Martin is singing live but he's singing over the recorded track. You don't even need to listen to it carefully to work out it's the track playing underneath.

and you know this... how? Chris isn't singing over the track, that is obvious because of the slight differences between the recorded version and this. If he was, you would hear 'another' him singing it exactly like it was recorded in the studio. By saying that the instruments are not being played live is insulting, and you have not said how you 'know' it's not live. If it's a fact, you should be able to prove it.

erm, doofus, i know it sounds unbelievable, but there is a technology where you can play the original recording (without vocals), and sing over it when performing live. For example, Dizzee Rascal does this. And you want my proof? Type in 'Speed of Sound Glastonbury 2005', and just listen to how this song sounds live. That's my proof. You can't come back from that I'm afriad.

I've head it live from many videos on here. Every one is a little different, based on the venue and who is recording it. Why would they just play over the recorded version, with or without vocals? There is no point to it, as the timing has to be perfect if they did. Which of course leaves more room for error than just playing it fully live. And another question for you: why would they choose to do that for this particular song, and not the others?

because it's Top of The Pops!! You hardly ever heard live music on that programme, what with the way the programme is made, organised etc. If anything was live, it was often the vocals. I give up with this discussion. We're getting nowhere here.

If you had any basic listening skills you'd know that this is not live, not only because it is IDENTICAL to the album version, but also from the performance of it. Look how out of sync the playing of the piano is from 0.50 in relation to the chords we hear. Martin is occasionally singing live, but that's it.
