SG-1 & SGA don't have anything in common with this, this sucks. It would be much better if it were a movie instead of a show, but I'd still woudn't watch it, sorry. Stargate shows can go as much as galaxies, but the universe is kind of a stretch which in my opinion was a mistake, especially the cast & no reference to SGC in some episodes. Sorry that's my opinion, they should've just brought back the original shows.

@au25 The cause went bye bye the day they axed Atlantis. Sheesh what were they thinking?!! Sci-fi fans have kept this franchise going almost 2 decades and this is how they repay us! It's a travesty...They've given us The OC in space( I despise all tv shows of that nature).
@dogooda12 Well, i have yet to see a sci fi tv show that was not canceled near the end in one way or another, even babylon 5 had a 20 years later ending rather telling what happen next eg the telepath war and what happen to sherridan's son. They made movies though.
Now sg1 had 2 movies to end the series but they both sucked, they anounced 2 more if i remember correctly and one of them will be sg atlantis ending, so i ask you, what happen to that one? Its been what? 3 years and its not ready?
@au25 I really loved bab 5 back in the day. To me the series kinda ended abruptly hence the 20 years later ending. It's been a long time since I watched Bab 5-I didn't want to admit it but the 2 sg1 flicks did suck much. I've been keepn my eyes and ears open for the SA movie. Haven't heard nothin more.
@au25 Dude theres nothing better than revisiting the classics:It doesnt get any better than good ole Startrek Im talkin original, next gen, DS9 and my favorite Voyager( not counting Enterprise 4 seasons? that says it all). Never got into battlestar galaticca but you might like it. cheers!
@JamieHowitt Drama is the words that kills me. I liked stargate, babylon 5,farscape, earth final conflict. But all i saw in battlestart galactica is a dramatic feel of narative like camera showing the characters doing stuff. Nothing really happens, it has to be propably the slowest tv show i have ever seen.

And when they contact central command do you really believe that how it would be. They could use it to exchange diagrams by drawing/symbols/tactical and strategic info to help them.

This is shot like BSG, with character driven stories like BSG, with a LOST-esque style as well. Rush is a Baltar like character whose honesty, motives and sanity are in question. There wont be heroes or villians either, just people with flaws and issues. It will be good, but you cannot say this is not a BSG inspired development in the SG univerese. Also, in the episode AIR, where is Lou Diamond Phillips in the ship, he didnt make it? In the clips they show him on board.
I agree, I am ready for this, the old Sg and SGA just had become bland, vanilla and shallow, the characters all too comically driven with personal issues that were like hollow garnishes. The flaws in human nature will take a front seat in SGU, people will be crooked, power hungry, jealous, dishonest, petty and cruel..you know..like us! These will be people we can identify with as they are internally weak and flawed just as we are, thats why BSG worked.
Instead of becoming more like bsg, why don't they return to the stylistic vision of the original Stargate movie.....it still is the best piece in the entire franchise.......
I won't judge since the series hasn't even started yet, but as a huge stargate sg1 fan and a moderate stargate atlantis fan I am worried that they are trying to make it a lot like BSG. I used to complain that there wasn't really any romantic relationships in the old stargates but now I realize that that's what made it special. So I just hope it doesn't get too sexy. But like I said before we can't insult or praise something that we've only seen 3 minutes of.
I'm worried about the fact of them trying to make this for the younger audience. I have loved every single episode of SG1 and SGA, but if they dumb it down for the younger audience, (Me being pretty young myself) it is going to ruin it. I enjoy the action and the adult features. I don't want to loose the quality of the one show i love!
Im 15 so i can kinda see your point of view but personnaly you have nothing to worry about cause yeah it might prove us wrong but with the SGA moive (Extinction) coming out soon the directors may decide to bring it back fingers crossed
Extinction and the SG-1 movie have been put on hold for the time being due to the economy being less than stellar and MGM being in danger of bankruptcy
This may well be "Stargate Voyager!". I will five it a go, but would prefer to a couple of special movie lenght editions of Atlantis rather then this.

The Ark of Truth should have been a whole season of SG1! There was way too much in it for a movie. All they did was pack all there best ideas of season 11 into a movie. And Continuum was just a bad extended episode.
I'm looking forward to Universe and an attempt to revamp the series. In truth the last season of Atlantis only had a few good episodes. The old formula was losing its edge.
It just screams "Home and Away - Intergalactic Edition"... I can understand (to an extent) wanting to reach a new audience, but I seriously do hope they don't alienate (no pun intended) their dedicated fanbase.
As Labobo has said, it's Stargate so I'll give it a fair chance, but it does already appear like it should be called Sexgate instead.

Hmmm... While it is a fresh idea and theme for the SG franchise, I can't help but feel from this trailer that this is going to be SG: Michael Bay-Style.
One thing I learned from watching LOST is that we won't actually find out anything till like the last season. There's only one way you can keep a show with a long arc going, and that means no answers or a return home until the last season. Seriously, do you think that they'll make it back to earth by the end of THIS season? Or the next? I prefer to watch shows where each episode is resolved at the end of the episode (but where there is still a running plot in the background) Just my opinion.
@wellslogan One thing i learned from lost is that its a lie and in the end it wouldnt explain anything and it kept up dragging on and on because people watched it.

@wellslogan That's a good point, but I still maintain that this series is awesome. I believe one of the main reasons LOST... um... lost is because they tried to keep it alive after it had died. Stargate has done that with Atlantis, but so far they haven't lost imagination on this one. Until they do (and probably after... yes I'm a Stargate junkie) I will continue to watch this series.

I never cared much about the dialogue or the plot lines when it came to stargate. All I ever cared for was the awesome tech, the space battles, and the space action sequences. I also really like the earth space craft designs they are really awesome.
I like new erotic love scenes something the old ones were kinda lacking but that's about it. I miss the old characters too much, i GET that it is MEANT to be a whole new thing but I'm still disappointed they wont be in it non the less :) sorry
Looks really good. They whole idea has been re-vamped. Also there is less chance of familia characters like in stargate Atlantis (which was good but I don't think would work twice). So new cast, new ships, new ideas. They've built it up but the proof will come as to if it makes it or not. Initial projections show it WILL deliver.
i love how earth has combined various technologies from SG1 and Atlantis. like asgard tech (including the suits from Atlantis), wraith tech, goa'uld tech, lantean tech, and some alien tech which i guess we'll find out about when we watch. can't wait for this. unfortunately i don't have sky or cable so i'm gonna have to wait even longer than most of you to see this. (sons of bitches lol) oh well, can't be helped.
its true that this will be COMPLEATLY different from sg-1 and atlantis, but i've accepted that and im looking forward to it! it DOES look like a good show.

They're in a new area of space just like atlantis so a new enemy will present itself just like the wraith did... If you don't like the idea then stop watching the god damn trailer and don't watch the series.
don't get me wrong. I'm excited about it, I LOVE stargate. but it really does seem kinda BSG. which, I was NOT a fan of. Should have gone with the SG-1 crew, i think that they would have been more than ready to step up their performances, with the chemistry they have they would had had that as a very nice base.
forget a tv how, this looks like it's gonna be a movie spread over 20 weeks, man that was awesome, cannot wait. (p.s when it's finally realeased to buy do you reckon it'll be out on blu-ray cause that would be amazing). also the special effects look better then anything i've ever seen on tv, including BSG which had some of the best effects ever, period, not just tv but film as well it beat them all hands down and this looks even better then that,, well until autumn peace out fellow gaters
It's not so much the storyline (which let's face it, is a generic premise) but the aesthetic here that's screaming BSG to me. Granted, I never watched too much Stargate but a lot of the edits, lighting techniques, camera angles and overall suit/ship designs look like they really want to be BSG all over again. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily.
first of all battlestar galactica was good. but what has stargate universe got in common with bsg? apart from the storyline being (partly) based around a spaceship??? stargate is far superior to bsg in every way

Which part is like bsg on battlestar they're not stuck on a ship they just need to come out every 30 minutes. this is more like the ship has a mission it sets stargates up and when its done it leaves if the people stay on the planet they will be left behind.
Hmm I'm seriously unsure about this as it looks like voyager meets BSG BUT IF it can avoid overplaying the entire crew depressing drama of BSG and tell good stories with plenty of adventure, who knows? I also hope they are really cut off from earth , Atlantis was ruined by suddenly having a link to Earth and reinforements always being sent
i dont know, i think its more like slider's, if they arent on the ship at a certain time they're lost forever. and they will be, according to the new's the gate break's or they dont have enough power to activate the 9th chevron, it took a zpm to use 8 think what 9 take's. and on a ship thats been going since before the gatebuilders acended, its not going to have alot of power left. and if they're on the other side of the galaxy the gate bridge idea wont work. so no chance going home.

I'd recommend the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. It's one of the best sci-fi drama's I've ever seen (alongside Stargate/Trek/Babylon 5/Doctor Who)

now that ive watched this i cant but help to compare stargate to star trek.
SG1 is like TNG- they do a lot of traveling to different planets and do battle.
Atlantis is like DS9- they both operate out of an alien base.
SGU is like Voyager- both groups of people are thrown out into space vast distances from earth.

I'm a big fan of Stargate series, and was very happy with this story.
But honestly they create a great ship...but the story is very dissapointing.
There are always some "low" episodes but at the moment apart from the ship I didn't saw a real story there......

Honestly, I think that's why I liked the pilot for this, but I never liked the other Stargate series. Seemed like it had a little more depth to it.

I`m so glad that the Goa`Uld are back,even if it`s the Lucian Alliance and for a short time(I think they will show the Lucian Alliance only in the Pilot,maybe at in the final episode,too that`d be great!)

One thing I learned from watching LOST is that we won't actually find out anything till like the last season. There's only one way you can keep a show with a long arc going, and that means no answers or a return home until the last season. Seriously, do you think that they'll make it back to earth by the end of THIS season? Or the next? I prefer to watch shows where each episode is resolved at the end of the episode (but where there is still a running plot in the background) Just my opinion.

@wellslogan I am a huge fan of SGU and think that it's the best stargate so far! IMO, i prefer that they never reach earth! That's not the point! The point is Destiny and the Edge of the Universe!

@wellslogan That's a good point, but I still maintain that this series is awesome. I believe one of the main reasons LOST... um... lost is because they tried to keep it alive after it had died. Stargate has done that with Atlantis, but so far they haven't lost imagination on this one. Until they do (and probably after... yes I'm a Stargate junkie) I will continue to watch this series.
I'm not arguing the SG:U point of view (Everyone has a preference). I'm agreeing with your long arc statement.

I never cared much about the dialogue or the plot lines when it came to stargate. All I ever cared for was the awesome tech, the space battles, and the space action sequences. I also really like the earth space craft designs they are really awesome.

I like new erotic love scenes something the old ones were kinda lacking but that's about it. I miss the old characters too much, i GET that it is MEANT to be a whole new thing but I'm still disappointed they wont be in it non the less :) sorry

Looks really good. They whole idea has been re-vamped. Also there is less chance of familia characters like in stargate Atlantis (which was good but I don't think would work twice). So new cast, new ships, new ideas. They've built it up but the proof will come as to if it makes it or not. Initial projections show it WILL deliver.

i love how earth has combined various technologies from SG1 and Atlantis. like asgard tech (including the suits from Atlantis), wraith tech, goa'uld tech, lantean tech, and some alien tech which i guess we'll find out about when we watch. can't wait for this. unfortunately i don't have sky or cable so i'm gonna have to wait even longer than most of you to see this. (sons of bitches lol) oh well, can't be helped.

It's competely startgate idiot... They're on a ship called destiny with a stargate, its just like atlantis except they're inspace rather than on the ground.... They're in a new area of space just like atlantis so a new enemy will present itself just like the wraith did... If you don't like the idea then stop watching the god damn trailer and don't watch the series.

don't get me wrong. I'm excited about it, I LOVE stargate. but it really does seem kinda BSG. which, I was NOT a fan of. I don't like the idea of them "accidentally" getting stuck on the ancient ship, why couldn't it be on purpose? like with atlantis... that was perfect >:O and now they're like "oops we can't get home". I hope they know what they're doing. If SGU isnt any good from the first movie..then i give up on it >:O

forget a tv how, this looks like it's gonna be a movie spread over 20 weeks, man that was awesome, cannot wait. (p.s when it's finally realeased to buy do you reckon it'll be out on blu-ray cause that would be amazing). also the special effects look better then anything i've ever seen on tv, including BSG which had some of the best effects ever, period, not just tv but film as well it beat them all hands down and this looks even better then that,, well until autumn peace out fellow gaters

It's not so much the storyline (which let's face it, is a generic premise) but the aesthetic here that's screaming BSG to me. Granted, I never watched too much Stargate but a lot of the edits, lighting techniques, camera angles and overall suit/ship designs look like they really want to be BSG all over again. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily.

Which part is like bsg on battlestar they're not stuck on a ship they just need to come out every 30 minutes. this is more like the ship has a mission it sets stargates up and when its done it leaves if the people stay on the planet they will be left behind.

Hmm I'm seriously unsure about this as it looks like voyager meets BSG BUT IF it can avoid overplaying the entire crew depressing drama of BSG and tell good stories with plenty of adventure, who knows? I also hope they are really cut off from earth , Atlantis was ruined by suddenly having a link to Earth and reinforements always being sent

i dont know, i think its more like slider's, if they arent on the ship at a certain time they're lost forever. and they will be, according to the new's the gate break's or they dont have enough power to activate the 9th chevron, it took a zpm to use 8 think what 9 take's. and on a ship thats been going since before the gatebuilders acended, its not going to have alot of power left. and if they're on the other side of the galaxy the gate bridge idea wont work. so no chance going home.
