The Senators and Governor need to go with out pay and do as the Constitution and go back to having jobs of their own. The Senate wasn't meant to convene every day. They need to get cut off of all the stealing and taxing people out of their homes.

Gov. spending must have limits - you can't just go on running big deficits. Yes help out people in need IF it is temporary. But to keep on handing out money people that refuse to work is just stupid. It is not the job of government to support those type of people with free money. There are charities, there are community centers.

Besides the massive direct negative fiscal impact of illegal aliens, we must consider some indirect impacts. One of the worst is middle-class flight from Calif. This has been happening for 15 years, but it is accelerating. They are selling their homes & businesses & heading to the Rockies & to the Plains Heartland. Even the ultra-liberal LA Weekly documents the middle class flight out of the San Fernando Valley. You should have seen it in 1970--It was nice! --It is ruined now.

BeantownJim's estimate of 12 million illegals is too high if he meant Calif alone, as the real number is probably over 3.2 million (which is equivalent to the entire population of the San Diego Metro area, with Stockton thrown in). Of course, this number is still huge, & the overall direct impact of this massive presence is about half the budget deficit. Your state (if you live there) is in very deep trouble, & I worry about the maintenance of civil order in the next year.

I was born and raised in CA but I decided to move out of that welfare state. It's time for CA to cut out the fat. Socialism is a failed pipe dream you cannot do everything for everyone. Page 3: Have you seen the published salaries of Los Angeles city council members? Sky high! Outrageous! This state has a MASSIVE bureaucracy that is way over-paid & irresponsible. Beyond that, there are millions of people who are living off of welfare & worker's comp payments, when many of them could work. Then, there are about 2 million illegal aliens. California is lost. I sold my business & property and cleared out, never to return. There are better places, by far.

Good information... Ohio is having the same problem. They want to keep increasing taxes because politicians don't want to face down the unions. It isn't just the salaries... it's the benefits which are better then anyone in the private sector gets.

There used to be a time when public servants got little better benefits because the pay was a joke. Now they get princely wages and princely benefits.

This Progressive utopias are non-sustainable.

i agree...i've been pushing over the 2+ years to get off of disability and get to school and work...the system really gets taken back when someone wants to get off...the D.O.R is helping me get my BA. my volume doesn't work and i don't have a tv so i don't know yet how the new budget will affect my financial aid and such...i have to get my BA and get things going to get the heck outta here myself...maybe i should never have come back

Page 2: Another huge California problem (that will NOT be fixed) is that thousands of state, county, & city employees are WAY over-paid (not front-line police, firemen, & teachers), especially administrative, local officials, & support staff. I personally know a city hall secretary who makes $105,000 per year to sit and chat on the phone (north of Sacto on Hwy 99). I know a senior librarian east of Pomona who makes $125,000. These salaries are twice what they are in other places.

I lived & worked in California for more than 35 years, in engineering, educational, & manufacturing positions, and during that time, I met many very generous people, some of them even heroic. So, the issue is not about how Christian or charitable they are. The state government, at the highest levels, is corrupt, arrogant, incompetent, & irresponsible. The state has been spending billions more than it receives in revenue. The overall tax burden is already very high. See my page 2.
