to protect them from danger.. the ink often takes the shape of the octopus and confuses the predator such as a shark.. the predator thinks the inky octopus is the real one while the real one escapes

I think briareus have an iridescant blue shine to them, it's hard to make out in this video. But this is typical 'fear' colouration of the caribbean common octopus in the vulgaris complex :P
