In Japan, wearing masks is to avoid spreading your own cold/flu to others.

@fcfhkmelb I was told that people wore the masks to keep from catching viruses from others (especially in close quarters). Those with weakened immune systems would absolutely need to wear them, it's an exercise of common sense. Irregardless of the reason, it's an obvious intelligent choice. I must say, though, racism is based off of ignorance of another culture...not all caucasians or asians are ignorant jerks. I hope you think about that when you read something that hurts you :)
