Was at the barrow lands to see this gig 25 years ago. The concert was filmed for the tube and if I remember margi Clarke ( letter to Brezhnev ) did some interviews with the moz and the band
30 year Smiths fan, I have to admit Hand In Glove was never my first choice in their catalog, but after hearing this, I must reconsider. This is beyond powerful.
I cannot stop watching this. What an incredible performance of such an incredible song. There is so much energy in the place, and the band looks like they are having so much fun.
2:18 I love how Andy looks at Johnny, you can see they were having a nice time. I love The Smiths and probably this one is my favorite song by them, is so perfect.
@NSAHAI1 I thumbs downed this because these are my two favorite songwriting duos. no need to turn it into a sports team cheer or jeer sort of thing. each pair had one soul who knew the world runs on hot air (Lennon and Morrissey), and another with a heart of the very sweetest of sounds (McCartney and Marr). i also think both bands quit while they were ahead (ahem, i'm looking at you rolling stones).
As this is one of my favourite videos on YouTube it surprised me to see Johnny, Andy and Mike are all wearing the same t-shirt as Morrissey, OF Morrissey :D. TOP CLASS
When I was at school in the 80s the amount of people who poked fun at me for liking The Smiths, saying they were miserable, sad, boring etc.. maybe those people should take a good look at this video and think again.
I love these people who say Morrissey hasn't done anything tolerable for the last 20 years. Have these people listened to anything post 1991? Your Arsenal...great rocker of an album....Vauxhall and I...sublime.....(Southpaw shite) Maladjusted iunder-rated.....Your Are The Quarry fantastic, Ringleaders good....Years of Refusal good. He has some humdingers in there but that's just laziness to condemn an impressive post-smiths catalogue. People say he misses Marr, not as much as Marr misses him
sorry man... unfortunately where i come from having FTP within ur username generally indicates bigotry. incorrectly, because this is a video from a glasgow venue, i put 2 and 2 together and made 5... but i definitely agree - they are the best band ever. peace? lol
Remember this like it was yesterday( just realised how old I am), the best band ever in the best live venue ever Glasgows famous Barrowlands Ballroom, the curved ceiling provides the best accoustics ever!!
seen them in the old calais palais edinburgh and playhouse the following year. best band ever thanks for posting video . typing with a tear in my eye perfect.
@epn9394 I've been watching all these live Smith's vids the last few days, and this one is the BEST. So POWERFUL! And they always sound BETTER live than they do on recordings. This performance is full of emotion and energy.
It's just occurred to me, the line 'but we've sometinh they'll never have', do you think Noel could have been influenced by that in writing 'we see things they'll never see' in Live Forever?
this is very memorable to me as I was at this gig in Glasgow Barrowlands, my friend Doreen (what a name) borrowed on of my shirts to wear and got up on stage - Morrisey spat on her and she was bundled off by the bouncers. I never got the shirt back either. It was also filmed for the tv show The Tube
Why did Morrissey spit on your mate? Seems rather out of character for someone who puts up with a lot of adulation on stage & handles people so well? Are you telling porky pies? It was probably sweat picked up by the lights? I should know I've done thousands of gigs..Spitting is always done by idiots in the audience, not by the musicians on the stage...So what gives?
I literally bite my bottom lip every time I tch the ending to Morissey's shirtless body teehee :)
