  • I literally bite my bottom lip every time I tch the ending to Morissey's shirtless body teehee :)

  • Was at the barrow lands to see this gig 25 years ago. The concert was filmed for the tube and if I remember margi Clarke ( letter to Brezhnev ) did some interviews with the moz and the band

  • err..keep it in reality folks. He doesn't know any of you. He only states what is true of his own life.

  • why is he so good looking? it's unholy :}D

  • 30 year Smiths fan, I have to admit Hand In Glove was never my first choice in their catalog, but after hearing this, I must reconsider. This is beyond powerful.

  • The Smiths are the only band that is ever allowed to wear shirts advertising their own band.

  • sadly, no one understands me like morrissey

  • jesus christ!....watched in 88..89....on a dodgy video playback...an it still give's me goose pimpels...!!

  • This should be the only viewable version of this song by The Smiths, with regards to the Sandie Shaw version.

  • does anyone have the entire concert recording of this on DVD? i will gladly pay you.

  • Big red semiacoustic... as ever :D

    LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Johnny Marr is humanity's greatest guitarist.

  • I just love this song :)

  • This is a great version of this song. Thanks.

  • I cannot stop watching this. What an incredible performance of such an incredible song. There is so much energy in the place, and the band looks like they are having so much fun.

  • 2:18 I love how Andy looks at Johnny, you can see they were having a nice time. I love The Smiths and probably this one is my favorite song by them, is so perfect.

  • What the hell, why did it get so quiet after 30 seconds? x[

  • morrissey + marr > lennon + mccartney!!

  • @NSAHAI1 I thumbs downed this because these are my two favorite songwriting duos. no need to turn it into a sports team cheer or jeer sort of thing. each pair had one soul who knew the world runs on hot air (Lennon and Morrissey), and another with a heart of the very sweetest of sounds (McCartney and Marr). i also think both bands quit while they were ahead (ahem, i'm looking at you rolling stones).

  • My finger hurts by liking all the comments. You guys are awesome.

    In Morrissey we trust.

  • In 1985 Morrissey and Marr gave me choice :)

  • Probably the best performance in Barrowlands ever

  • Probably the best video on YouTube....

  • Morrissey= the coolest thing to ever have existed

  • oh wow this looks like one gig that should not have been missed at any cost

  • 1985 ! the best years !!!!!!!

  • They never let the fans get this close nowdays... great band, great performance!

  • Very nice... top form.

  • Grrrrrrrrrrr!

  • Morrissey is beautiful. I wish he was mine.

  • WHERE CAN I GET THIS?

  • i must have this concert... anyone have it?

  • Mozzas cat died the night before this gig, true!! Looks like it was amazing x

  • As this is one of my favourite videos on YouTube it surprised me to see Johnny, Andy and Mike are all wearing the same t-shirt as Morrissey, OF Morrissey :D. TOP CLASS

  • That was not only the best Smiths gig i ever went to (out of 20) but still ranks up as one of the best ever.

Barrowlands the best venue in the fucking world.

    And i'm from West London!

  • does anyone know if there is a recording of the whole concert? hand in glove is the only tune they played that night i have found so far.

  • This is a shame cuz glasgow fans always make the night more so than the band...

The best is the New Order gig in glasgow...well worth watching

  • @ cgubbs

  • Excellent stuff.... wish I could have been there

  • When I was at school in the 80s the amount of people who poked fun at me for liking The Smiths, saying they were miserable, sad, boring etc.. maybe those people should take a good look at this video and think again.

Fantastic example of a great band at thier best.

  • Lol, there's no greater humourist than Morrissey.

  • I love these people who say Morrissey hasn't done anything tolerable for the last 20 years. Have these people listened to anything post 1991? Your Arsenal...great rocker of an album....Vauxhall and I...sublime.....(Southpaw shite) Maladjusted iunder-rated.....Your Are The Quarry fantastic, Ringleaders good....Years of Refusal good. He has some humdingers in there but that's just laziness to condemn an impressive post-smiths catalogue. People say he misses Marr, not as much as Marr misses him

  • best song ever written. best band ever.

thank god he made the smiths.

  • @mikeyFTP i feel unclean that somebody with such repulsive, bigoted views feels the same way as i do. glasgow's shame.

  • Comment removed

  • sorry man... unfortunately where i come from having FTP within ur username generally indicates bigotry. incorrectly, because this is a video from a glasgow venue, i put 2 and 2 together and made 5... but i definitely agree - they are the best band ever. peace? lol

  • no probs fu.k the bigotry .

    long live the smiths.

  • @mikeyFTP "god" didn't make The Smiths. The Smiths made The Smiths.

  • morrissey is far from god he is simply just a great singer who has not done anything remotely tolerable in over 20 years

  • That's what makes him great and you insignificant.

  • well, he is god.

  • God gave Glasgow the Barrowlands Ballroom best rock venue in the world

  • Fantastic performance! Long live the Smiths

  • Remember this like it was yesterday( just realised how old I am), the best band ever in the best live venue ever Glasgows famous Barrowlands Ballroom, the curved ceiling provides the best accoustics ever!!

  • I love the little exchange between Johnny and Andy around 2:16. All four of them just seem so excited!

  • best live performance of hand in glove!

  • i like how morrissey whips the crowd's ass with his microphone cable at the beginning ..hahah

  • Great video footage and Moz sing the song so dam well....=D

  • only had their albums on vinyl..never saw them live as a teen..those who did are lucky...saw morissey perform live in Austin,TX few summers ago...

  • i wish i could wear a shirt of my face. thats cool as fuck that he can pull it off.

  • i want they come back

  • seen them in the old calais palais edinburgh and playhouse the following year. best band ever thanks for posting video . typing with a tear in my eye perfect.

  • awesome thank you

  • Wish I was alive in those days, would've been great 2 see them live, still got 2 see Mozza though :)

  • Andy & Johnny r wearing Mozza t-shirt..

  • and mike.

  • Whos the ugly berk on Morrissey's t-shirt.....horrible hair BLEGH!

    (yes, I am joking)

  • a poignant and compelling performance. long live the smiths!

  • Never has missing a concert had such an impact on a life than me missing this one.

  • raw,in it's purest form!!!! this song never gets dull...The Smiths "UNTOUCHABLE"

  • I love the intensity of this performance. great song.

  • @epn9394 I've been watching all these live Smith's vids the last few days, and this one is the BEST. So POWERFUL! And they always sound BETTER live than they do on recordings. This performance is full of emotion and energy.

  • this is amazing. i need to see more of this gig!

  • I can supply a link to the audio bootleg of this gig, if you like.

  • ooh thank you that would be awesome :)

  • could you forward the link please?

  • Legends.

  • waw

  • what does it mean when he says "the sun shines out of our behinds" cause if it's what i think it means then it's pretty funny.

  • It's just occurred to me, the line 'but we've sometinh they'll never have', do you think Noel could have been influenced by that in writing 'we see things they'll never see' in Live Forever?

  • @jcrawley1 definitely! well spotted! and this is noels fav smith song!!

  • god! this is by far my favorite smiths´s song... i love it...

  • Look at the size of the bouncer's arms? Jeez - what did his mum feed him for breakfast?

  • vegetables

  • smaller bouncers.

  • this is fucking insane....... AT THEIR PEAK

  • The whole band is spot-fucking-on in this performance. I also really dig it when Morrissey sings aggressively without loosing much of the melody.

P.S. Gotta love it when Morrissey wears a shirt with his own face on it!

  • believe it or not i still have this t-shirt, without doubt the best smiths shirt ever

  • LOL, whats the bouncer doing? Kidnapping fans?

  • This is the bollocks! The Smiths at their glorious best! Fabulous! Well done guys!

  • Wow!

  • this is very memorable to me as I was at this gig in Glasgow Barrowlands, my friend Doreen (what a name) borrowed on of my shirts to wear and got up on stage - Morrisey spat on her and she was bundled off by the bouncers. I never got the shirt back either. It was also filmed for the tv show The Tube

  • Cool

  • Why did Morrissey spit on your mate? Seems rather out of character for someone who puts up with a lot of adulation on stage & handles people so well? Are you telling porky pies? It was probably sweat picked up by the lights? I should know I've done thousands of gigs..Spitting is always done by idiots in the audience, not by the musicians on the stage...So what gives?

  • incredible

  • great song. its about eating cheezits and then not having anything to wipe yer hands on

  • its about 'a taste of honey' by shelagh delaney

  • is there more of this gig?

  • Great quality! Thank you so much!
