@MossMaskface As far as I know, in any "real" Fight the action would have lasted no more than a few Seconds, in general. The Idea on epic and Long Fights between two People is mostly made up by Films and Movies. An those usually depict Sieges of a Castle as a Matter of Hours, at most days, whils in Reality they usually lasted for Week, Moths, Years.
@aerik9 Trust me. As a fencer and a Renaissance swordsmanship enthusiast, I can tell you that this is only a recreation. BTW, these are cut-and-thrust swords, not rapiers. Rapiers can only make thrusting actions.
@SorenityVids Can't rapiers bind and wind as well (or at least just wind)? Certainly this is recreation, but it is also fencing, even if they are cut-and-thrust swords.
@SorenityVids As far as I know, Rapiers almost always had sharp blades and were also used for cutting Blows. The later Smallswords tended to be more often pure thrusting-Weapons. And as late as the End of the 18th Centuries, some Fencing-Masters included Cutting-Techniques. I find it difficult to say "fencing was like this or that." It heavily depended on the School your in and the Fencingmaster.
On the left is John Clements, the director of ARMA, using a Cut & Thrust sword with a dagger to face an ARMA Senior Free Scholar using a short sword with a buckler.
Are there any real schools of fencing from the renaisance era that exist today, or is it all made up? I don't know anything about this so don't ream me.
Some claim a lineage (not anything before the use of the repier as I know of though), others interpret fight manuals and manuscripts from those days. I thought it was bogus at first, but after 3 years of practising with ARMA and other organisations I can only say that it is very martial (and tons of fun)
Yarbols, if you by the "off leg" mean the left leg (when dagger is held in the left hand, if not excuse my bad english), I must point out that in many Bardi School manuals you will find it to be correct (perhaps also in english ones, not sure though).Marozzo's and Maniolino's sword and dagger can be found at HEMAC's homepage
katanas seem easier, yo xD
