  • Nice job...This was the stunt my babe was blowing my mind with in Niageria...now I know.

  • thank you so much my mum is very happy that you showed her how tye the gele

  • What kind of fabric is that made out of? It sounds so hard. Will it be comfortable dancing in?

  • i love the fact that you're teaching the next generation how to tie the gele....but hate the fact that these outsiders think it's a fashion statement that they can sell...

  • @acho93 Perhaps if people like you didn't spend so much time defining others as "outsiders" instead of people in the human family, there wouldn't e so much hatred in the world. Don't be such a self-righteous snob.

  • @shesmelting so what...why should the fashion industry steal my cultural idea and make millions off it when they don't even know how to wear it; while we gain nothing from it?

  • @shesmelting so what...why should the fashion industry steal my cultural idea and make millions off it when they don't even know how to wear it; while we gain nothing from it?

    p.s. don't bother replying.

  • @acho93 LOL I seriously doubt the fashion industry will make "millions" but even if they do . . . so? Blue jeans are undoubtedly part of American culture. No one bitches or moans because everyone in the world has "stolen" the cultural American icon that is denim but you don't hear people bitching about cultural appropriation. Why do you think your cultural should be immune to capitalism when no one else's is?

  • @shesmelting wut part of don't reply do you bitches not understand? anyways if nigerians actually embraced their culture by using them as fashion innovations instead of being lazy and eating fufu all day they could actually prosper in the fashion industry.

  • what material do you use. and what is the size

  • wel done God bless you

  • what material is the scarf??? It's not a regular material

  • tnx for posting this video. tnx to your video, I can now tie gele for myself and friends. I've even taught others how to tie gele and it is all because you shared your style. tnx much.

  • Thank you so much; you really help me ! God Bless you

  • just ran across this video, I have seen these worn but not so stiff, do you wear an underscarf or bone under it to help keep it in place? I like the yellow one better then the other color. :-)

  • Thanks I am trying over and over again.

  • I removed my comments. I'd rather promote peace. I apologize for any offense I may have committed in saying the gele was Senegalese, it is Nigerian. I still enjoy the video and the warm memories I have of watching my Mom wrap her gele.

  • @yaaharriott If you are not sure just next time ask.I'm not nigerian and i know that Gele is nigerian.

  • @kaliyuta I'm not sure why after I have already apologized for offending anyone I am being chastised again. Do you want me to apologize again?

  • @yaaharriott no.not attacking or chastising at all.

  • looks really nice :)

what matrial is this gele made of?

  • I love you tube! hehehehehe, fantastic! hehehe

  • I *suck* at doing this. I need help god why.

  • daaaamn seems like the fabric you have to use is reeeally heavy or something

  • actually the fabric is pretty thin its like wrapping paper consistency, thats how you can get it to stand up 'cause of the stiffness

  • :3 I'll try and find this kind of fabric at Joanne's

  • lolll sorry i thought that was funny but you can't find it at Joanne's, just go to a Nigerian store where they sell traditional attire and ask for it, either "Jubilee". there is also Aso-Oke(but that one is cloth material) but just ask for "Jubilee" and they will know what you are talking about referring to the gele...=)

  • ^ -^ Thanks! Will do!

  • heeeyyy chica soo my mom learnt how to tie her gele with this video every time she ties it she always says ahhh God will bless this gurl soo i finally said i will write you and tell you thank you from me and my mother:))

  • Why did I think it took more work than this. These are beautiful pieces of art, actually I think of them as architecture. So glad the colonist didn't take everything away from the continent.

  • Omo Naija

  • Thank u so much if there's one thing i want learn so bad, it's tying my head gear myself. My friend does it for me but i'll get marry someday and she won't be there to do it. Thanks once more.

  • Thank you. Fabulous!

  • tku..ive gone into african stores for guidance and have been treated disrespectfully for my naivity...this is so helpful

  • What is that fabric? It's beautiful!

  • the fabric is aso-oke

  • Thank you so much!

  • If u refer to the Gele the fabric is Taffeta also aso oke could be used but for this particular style, better to use taffeta material they have quality brands with trade mark 'HAYES' et.c

  • Thanks for this information. I guess there must be many different kinds of taffeta. I've had many taffeta slips and although they have a great "swishy" sound underneath my dresses, they've never made the "crackling" sound this fabric makes. Thanks, again.

  • thanks for this, you mde it look so simple and gorgeous.

  • thanks so much!!!!! after watching your video i now know how to tie my gele better than my mom---and i was born in the u.s.!!! you should put a tape showing the best way to tie a net headtie....thanks, god bless

  • Pretty. I want to try this. Thanks for posting this

  • Thank you soooooooooo much! this really helped me yesterday, I had a baby dedication to attend and my gele look fab. Thanks to you!

  • wow. what kind of material is this to make it so stiff. i have cotton and it will not stay up like this. but i hear that any fabric from any part of Africa (exp Yoruba) is different. and African fabric is what should be used in tying the Gele and wearing the dress. so, how many yards and what material, please?

  • wow, it always looks so complicated but it have made it look rather simple. Thanks! I liked the yellow Ichafu lots.

  • Good job : )

  • Great job in educating us on how to tie an ichafu, but you do make it look so easy. Rome wasn't built in a day. I'll just have to continue to practice, practice, practice. Thanks again.

  • rude!

  • I'm so sorry I wasn't trying to be rude, and I'm terribly sorry if I offended anyone by my comment, I was just expressing how fantastic she was doing this, I personally think they look brilliant!

I am lousy at wrapping a present, tape everywhere, it was meant to be a compliment not an insult so once again to everyone reading this, but more importantly the lovely lady who was demonstrating how its done, I'm sincerely sorry if my remark was interpreted as being rude.

  • @StarKatz wow...i didn't even read the "offensive" comment you left but this was probably the best apology i've ever read! You are a kind spirit! Bless you~

  • thanks 4 that, i can now rock my head tie in london
