  • Love the T-shirt man, where can I get one? Nice videos btw!

  • mark, my dad dint like the amount of water being wasted so he made me link the drain line back into the incoming line so the waste and incoming water arnt wasted. was this a good idea or not?

  • @Teslasdik no. Run it outside to water the lawn/bushes/garden or get the water saver upgrade.

  • What do you think about bulk reef supply RO/DI systems?

  • @Arteolike both BRS and BFS have good units.

  • Do fresh water fish tanks need 0TDS RODI water also?

  • could i use the rejected water for a fresh water tank and the good water for a salt water tank

  • Hey Mark I was just wondering, have a RO/DI unit from a well known company professionally installed in my house because we draw our water from our own well and although we have filtered tap water, we also have a separate water purification station used for cooking and God knows what my dad wanted it for. Will this suffice for a reef tank?

  • Great watch, thanks....

  • Hey Mark, I set up my new 5 stage system with a Aquatec 8800 booster pump and noticed that my pressure went to 95 psi. I have a well so I needed the pump but I am nervous that the pressure is extremely high. Without the pump it runs at under 40psi. Is this an issue???

  • @elvisfan5308 95 is very high. Shouldn't be above 60-70 psi max

  • this might be a dumb question, but how do you get the water into the RO/DI system?

  • @thedirtydime CONECT to sing or hose and the tubes you see on top carries it to the system to be filtered

  • @sharkworrior how long does it normally take?

  • @sharkworrior ok cool! i got my RO DI unit a couple weeks ago and it actually worked out! but it seems like my 1st filter needs to be changed ALREADY! its like a verrrrry light copper color... normal? thanks for responding to my 1st question! :)

  • @thedirtydime You plumb it into your cold water line or you can hook it up to a garden hose.

  • Can I use RO to drinking ?

  • @casino007007 sure. Some grocery store machines are RO water.

  • @mrsaltwatertank im confused, heres my questions aha,

Im thinking of getting discus fish to breed but i have hard water in my location. SO i was advised to get a ro unit, but how do they work? do i need a filter? ( i asshume i do) are they on 24/7, or only when water changes take place. Im completely confused!, as if i put one downstairs and connect it to my sink and ran the cables up the stairs ( in my garage, ad wont mind, i hope!) would it have enough pressure to get up them?

    Thanks

    Mike

  • @mrsaltwatertank oh yeah, will it make it soft water btw, i have hard water where i live, so will this make it soft enough for discus?

  • oh cool thanks i don't have a rodi unit in my saltwater tank and my fish and invertebrates are doing fine... but i'll get one just in case lol

  • Great video! I've been using my drinking water RO unit for a few years like you mentioned in your video, but you are correct, it's missing the "DI" part of the process. Just ordered a really nice SpectraPure model that was 50% off. Do you have a video on how to use the optional flush kits to clean out the membrane? I made sure to order one.

  • @bbalak Bulkreefsupply has a video on it. Check out their channel.

  • Hey Mr SaltwaterTank can you pleaseeee do a review on your vortech pumps?, I want to get some but dont know if they are worth it and are MSWT Approved

  • what kind of salt do you use and great videos very helpful

  • Can an RODI also be used for fresh water tanks, and what model are you using? Love the videos man, keep it up. Right now I have a fresh water tank, but been looking at getting a 75 gallon saltwater tank, so much cooler, lol.

  • I use My watse water for my freshwater system

  • i changed my membane and and the 3 other filters they say to let 5 gallons flush before you use the ro water i check the tds when i turned on filter still see 11 on tds . after 5 gallons i will recheck

  • great video how long does a membrane last

  • Thanks for all your help saltwater, You have made my reef beautiful!!! keep them videos coming!!

  • i think i figured out why the water come in has 006 TDS. because the BRS hook up the TDS meter to test the water after the RO, before the water goes through DI. I dont know if they did that on purpose or thats how they set up the TDS.

  • @silly8oi They might have done that on purpose so that you could see if your membrane needs replacing or not.

Personally I'm more interested in the TDS of the water coming into my system vs. the TDS of the water after the RO membrane. I"ve never had an RO membrane go bad, but I still replace them every year.

  • @silly8oi Just switch the out to the di and the in after the ro

  • did your ro unit come with the shut off, presser gage, tds meter, or flush kit I looked on buckeye fields supply and there info dose not say anything about this stuff

  • @snakedude6 Check out their "premium" series. Go to RO/DI Systems, then a "premium" series. The value series don't have these features, but can be added on at a later time.

  • I get ro/di for free from lfs. He decided to do this over a year ago. If you need it its always on hand. Just bring in your buckets and fill em up. Best decision he ever made.

  • @inthesump I bet! I wonder how many impulse buys people have made from just being in the store when they were getting water!

  • @mrsaltwatertank Is 95 Psi Ok for my ro/di?...THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD

  • wats up wit you and that shirt lol

  • hey there, im gana be buying a rodi unit in the next few days and im wondering in the 4 stage max pure mpdi system at 25 gpd for 159 on marine depot is a good buy for a rodi unit? i have a 30 gallon breader tank but just lost two clowns and a bg chromis. i had some sps corals but they only lasted a month. ive been using tap water letting it sit for two pluse days befor using it. i know i need a rodi unit cause i got a hair algea problem. let me know if i can find a better one for 150. thanks

  • @benboarder09 That isn't a bad system, but I'd like to see more gallons per day. If you need RODI water in a hurry and you've used up your stash, then waiting a full day to get 25 gallons is a long time.

For less money, and still a good unit, you can get a 75 or 100 gallon/day unit from Buckeye Field Supply. Waiting for RODI water to me made is the worst when you need it.

  • i have a question. i got a dual inline TDS just like yours., and the water come in is 002 - 006 and the water come out is 000. I thought the water come in suppose to be over 100. is there something wrong with my RODI? thanks

  • @silly8oi not necessarily. TDS of 002-006 coming into your unit is the lowest I've ever heard of. That's really clean water.

You can also pickup a TDS calibration fluid to make sure your TDS meter is functioning correctly.

  • @silly8oi Wow that does sound low but could be possible. do you have a whole house filter or something before the RO unit? Our Well water runs at 56tds from the tap and my Bulkreefsupply RO unit drops it down to 2tds after the membrane and 0 after the DI stage.

  • A lot of great info here.

As soon as I move away from appartment I am buying one. For now i am buying my water, cheap, but still more work than doing it myself.

    Thank you Mark!

  • I read that drinking water with 75 or less tds is harmful. Our body needs those minerals. The article says it can cause muscle contraction then eventually death...

  • @fliplunatic999 I've heard this too and I'm not worried about it. I don't drink RODI water all day and when I do use it, I'm adding stuff to it like baby formula or tea which is putting stuff back in it.

  • @fliplunatic999 If that was the case then my whole family would be dieing. our well water is only 56tds. the highest i have seen it hit is 65tds and that was after a good storm.

  • I heared drinking from a DI unit can make you sick.

  • @svtjulian I haven't puked yet.

  • Good Video and great idea about the lawn watering with the excess water ;~)

  • Can you recommend a good RO/DI unit that is basically a plug and play? Great vid. Do you have an account on a reef forum? Just curious..keep up the good work.

  • @steelFTBall96 all of Buckeye Field Supply's units are plug and play. They also come with great instructions.

The hardest part of setting up an RODI is choosing where to put it and connecting it to a water line.

I'm happy to talk to you about your tank and help you make a choice as well as help you set it up

  • Great vid :) good info.
