Even though not all of the songs, this song is still a truly beautiful song. I know the composer that is responsible for this song. I have even gotten to sing one of his songs. I am a growing boy going through puberty though so it was not the easiest thing, but beautiful a masterpiece.
Ah but what if we resurrected Beethoven and put him and J Soule in the Hadron Collider? Create the best musician ever!!! Or maybe a mess and a black hole. It's a bit of a large margin of error but hey it's worth a try.
Besides, listen to some of the orchestral stuff from the late 19th to 20th century; you can definetely point out some similarities between Soule's work and the earlier classics. Even Swan Lake has some things in common with Soule's pieces.
The point being, don't hate on the classical and romantic era composers; guys like Satie and Beethoven and Mozart laid the groundwork for the modern orchestral. It's like hating Sir Isaac Newton for not coming up with the Theory of General Relativity. :)
Skyrim and Guild Wars 2 will both feature his music. Games that put so much care in their music are usually worth checking out. Both games look amazing already.

@TheDavid2222 this is classical music. What evidence do you have that it is not? It meets the criteria of Classical music, it would just be called the "First Light Suite". Just because it was put in a game it doesn't mean it isn't Classical music.
@miiwiiplay No it didn't. I have read multiple books on the subject and they all claim that Classical music is the genre being discussed when it comes to Bach or Philip Glass or any other modern composer of orchestral music. If you are referring to the Classical musical style then you are correct, but the genre as a whole is considered to be Classical music. The Classical style began in about 1720 and ended at about 1790's, but I'm not talking about the musical movement.
@TheDavid2222 I work as a composer for Disney. Usually, when we're hired to write musical containing orchestral instruments, it's called "orchestral" music. If someone were to tell us "classical", it would end up being a huge misunderstanding. We might waste valuable time creating a mozart-esque score when we really should have been writing something more contemporary.
@miiwiiplay Well in the not so distant future much of our music will be considered "Classical" so it's rather redundant to not consider it Classical music. Mozart probably considered his music to be "orchestral music", but that doesn't mean it wasn't Classical at the date of its creation. Classical doesn't have to mean music from the past. Jeremy Soule wrote this piece in the Classical tradition therefore it is Classical music. I see what you mean by the confusion though.
@TheDavid2222 100 years from now, humans will have probably cropped our generation of orchestral music in the "post-modernist" era. I think you're confused as to what "Classical" is. Classical is a specific era of music, it doesn't refer to music of the past in general. For example, Beethoven lived in the past, but the vast majority of people say he is a "romantic" composer because that's the era he lived in, unlike Haydn and Mozart who lived in the specific "classical" era.
@TheDavid2222 Look it up in Wikipedia. According to that source I am right and your wrong. There are two definitions for the term "Classical". One refers to the musical era of Haydn and Mozart and the other refers to the Western musical tradition that stated in the 1500's and is still being practiced at present. Look up Classical Music and you will see that Beethoven and Stravinsky are both categorized as Classical composers.
@TheDavid2222 Wikipedia isn't always correct. To the common layperson, Classical music may simply refer to any music composed before the 20th century. But to practiced musicians, Classical music specifically refers to era after the Baroque period and before the Romantic period. It has a specific style that sets it apart from the Baroque era where musicians were essentially slaves and from the Romantic era which idealized musicians as virtuosos.
It's too bad he doesn't compose for Movies he would be up their with Hans Zimmer and John Williams and get world wide recongition then. He's more a niche artist tho. His Elder Scrolls and Total Annhiliation Soundtracks are by far the best of his works.
@red244 yeah, Hans is the shiznat lol. Modern classical legends Hans Zimmerman Jeremy Soule A few alan silvestri pieces quite a few John Williams James Horner Tons of generic nintendo stuff List goes on and on and on!!! I could live off that stuff
The thing is, the music is supposed to be only about 20% of the reason why the game is great to play. With Jeremy Soule (specially Oblivion), his music is more than 50% of the game. A great game with an amazing soundtrack = a fantastic experience. I not only still play Oblivion, I have his tracks on my mp3 player and listen to them at work and to sleep.
Soule is awesome, consistently making superb compositions. He deserves more recognition outside the field of gaming, he's easily as good as Hans Zimmer who writes a lot of Hollywood music for example.
@Damdidamdamdam No I agree with him, espescially the point about Zimmer, Soule is easily one of the best composers in video games and deserves more wide spread reconition

@MaestroStadt Ok too many people takes my comment way to seriously. It was just an exaggeration of how I feel about J.Soule. Of course I know Beethoven means more to history, mostly because J.Soule ain't history yet, he is still present, and he is still making wonderfull music, in his way of course.
@os0s You clearly misunderstand. Beethoven, along with others, led the way for music as we know it. If not for them, then Jeremy Soule may not even be composing (or alive at all, if you follow butterfly effect)
@GreatWallStr1 FunFact: We wouldn't be aware of Beethoven never having existed because he never existed. Which, when you say it out loud, makes both sense and is utterly stupendous to say :P
Beethoven did not invent music , With all do respect do some researches about the heritage of music you will know that beethoven is just a composer like any other and in the arabic music history we know and study music even before beethoven existed so i suggest you recalculate your answers if you will reply to this, Jeremy Soule's music has nothing to do with beethoven, He would still be existed .
@os0s I am well aware of music and its history (not ALL of it, but much of it, as I have taken several classes regarding such topics). However, do note I NEVER claimed Beethoven "invented" music, but he established precedents and paved the way for future musicians, as did many other composers. It's great to say Arabs had music before Beethoven, but in a nutshell that means nothing. That's like saying we had cartooning before Walt Disney, so modern cartoons have -nothing- to do with him. :)
@GreatWallStr1 Oh, and secondly, I said "May not even be composing". He could've still been alive, and could have been composing, but I imply there's a chance he might not have been. :D
@os0s Well, that is true. Arabic music would likely not be affected by the lack of a composer such as Beethoven... neither would Chinese, Japanese, Russian, African, or Indian music (or other countries not heavily touched by Western music until recently). But the western world could have a very different turnout because of that. :) Of course, this is all hypothetical, so for all we know Beethoven could've influenced an enormous amount of composers who came after him...or made no impact. :)
I agree with what you said when you put it that way,But I'm quoting that you said arab's music was in a nutshell like saying ....etc ,Do know that arabic music and your music are totally different by all means we use about 400 scales when you use like Major and Minor in your music we cover the whole western music industry in one scale we call it (Ajam Maqam) Look it up . anyhow i now agree with what you said about beethoven when you put it that way.
@sirikalvik while i admire your taste in soule's music, it's obvious you never listened (really listened) any of Beethoven's work. there's a reason all composers, small, big or huge, find inspiration in Beethoven, Mozart(even though i deeply hate him), Haydn, Dvorak, etc.
BTW, Wagner is pretty much the father of all film and videgame music. check him out.

Hmm.. I'm getting a sense of Deja vu from this music. Almost like I've heard it before, but can't place it... Might have been used in some fan vid though (and no, I haven't even played Guild wars, so it's not from there)
@magicrat74 The opening tune somewhat resembles an opera song I once heard. It's a rather popular one, but I don't remember the name. I just recall the tune from it when I hear this track. I'll tell you once I know the name!

Jeremy Soule wrote the music for the GAMES. The Goblet of Fire film was done by Patrick Doyle. But the games have better soundtracks in my opinion, even though I adore John WIlliams
I believe so too. So many aspects of that game are just unheard of in the video game world, and it could never have worked so perfectly without Soule doing the music. Such is his genius :3
for some reason this song reminds me of Elder Scrolls 3 & 4... hmm... I know hes the same composer for both Guild Wars and the Elder Scrolls, but he always seems to use a different mood, tempo and sound for almost all of his songs in every game.
I want to know where I can buy this exact track legitmitately.

This man is a genius. I have composed music for many games, and I would say that he is without a doubt the best, most imaginative and most moving composer working in the industry.

I don't know if anybody knew this or not, but Jeremy Soule also composed the soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Just thought some people might find it interesting.

really? that's awesome :D
I knew he did Neverwinter Nights and all the GW games and Morrowind/Oblivion...
time to go show this to my harry potter obsessed friend

He composed the soundtrack for the video game of Goblet, not the film. It was Patrick Doyle who did the film score
randomtime1 2 years ago
Jeremy Soule wrote the music for the GAMES. The Goblet of Fire film was done by Patrick Doyle. But the games have better soundtracks in my opinion, even though I adore John WIlliams

@vengefulacolyte1 The game, not the movie.

I believe that was his first foray into game music composing, wasnt it? I read that somewhere >.>
JamesThurmond25 2 years ago
I believe so too. So many aspects of that game are just unheard of in the video game world, and it could never have worked so perfectly without Soule doing the music. Such is his genius :3

I can't get enough of this song :)

for some reason this song reminds me of Elder Scrolls 3 & 4... hmm... I know hes the same composer for both Guild Wars and the Elder Scrolls, but he always seems to use a different mood, tempo and sound for almost all of his songs in every game.
DiFrand 2 years ago 2
I think its better to work out with composing if u know the games background, ethnic environment and so on.

I like what I'm hearing. I had a major headache and I was all like "must... hear... Jeremy Soule's music..." This helped quite a bit.
