  • I have a question! The only existent religion is Islam? So why science vs religion turns to "atheism"(Neonazism, Third Possiton, Neofascism, also are atheistic ideologies regardless if they occationally play religious -as utterly populists;) against Islam?

  • ATHEISTS UNITE!

  • If somebody wants to wear a burka, then let her or him

    Its his or her freedom

  • @ThePeacefulAtheistt By burka's, if you mean niqabs, then no. If you want to cover your face in public, then go to the middle east.

  • @DamLazyFuk they have the right to wear what ever they want to wear, the problem is that people don't see burkas as clothes, but they see it like something more

  • @ThePeacefulAtheistt a muslim woman in australia was accquited because the judge couldn't identify her. Now if she was killing people with an AK, do you still want burqas?

  • @111E982a the same happens with nuns, do you want to ban nune clothes?

P.S.: I don't want burqas, but they still should have the right to wear them

  • @ThePeacefulAtheistt nonono, you should read the news yourself, and besides you can see a nun's face, but you can't see someone's face when wearing a burqa. that's the main point and that's how she got accquitted.

  • @111E982a If a nune wears sun glasses you can't see the most of the face, just like by muslim women.

Why not ban everything that covers the face?

  • @ThePeacefulAtheistt are you fucking dumb or what? at least she can remove the sunglasses, but because that muslim refuses to remove her burqa, that's why she got accquitted. Jesus christ, you're dumb.

  • @111E982a So nun clothes are ok but Hijab is not -both cover the head in the same degree! So if a muslim woman wishes NOT to remove the hijab -for whatever reasons- she is a brainwashed dump or terrorist and a nun is a respectful free woman who is dedicated to God on her free will!? And it has nothing to do with the religion of the woman which wears the rug, but with accuisition? What is going to be the answer: something completely irrelevant, complete nonsenses or insults?

  • @ThePeacefulAtheistt Their goal is to ban muslims just for being such. But political correctenese, egalitarianism, human rights, and equality prevents them! Plus they are uttery populists so they try not to seem racists or discriminatory and that makes them say all nonsenses they say!

  • He is so eloquent and erudite :-)

  • dawkins takes pseudo-science to a new level-his whole memes shit is as preposterous as 'aliens built the pyramids' shit.

  • @TheJunglesound Unintentional comedy at its finest.

  • Let's be more specific and say that the Christian god most definitely does not exist.

  • @nosajj12345 I totally agree, the christian god doesnt exist. But its a shame, bcoz your god doesnt exist either.

  • @OracleUndone "But its a shame, bcoz your god doesn't exist either." Oh really!!....Where in my comment did I say I adhere to a deity, man-made or otherwise??

  • @nosajj12345 my mistake... i took you for a believer. glad to know youre not :)

  • Yahweh (God) was Hebrew for "to be" or existance itself. (Thumbs any and every anti-theist video down)

  • dawkins is a xew.

  • Islam claims to be the one true religion and the Koran as the final revelation of God. That is one very big claim to make. Apparently, though, you are not allowed to question it at all. Like Christopher Hitchens said in the CNN ‘Free Speech Fight’ interview “[Islam makes this] fantastic claim and the other a fantastic claim that you cannot challenge. That is totalitarianism defined.”

  • ...The other issue is that Islam is highly political. There is a growing problem in the West with Muslim immigrants refusing to follow the law of the ‘infidels’ (law of the land) and only wanting to follow sharia (the ‘law of Allah’). Please research sharia. It is the complete opposite to democracy where punishments for adulterers, homosexuality, theft, ‘blasphemy’, and victims of rape are draconian. Islam means “submission”

  • @bluedragon605 how different is sharia from kosher slaughter? If u didn't steal and adultry u would not have to worry with the other. And they don't have homosexuals in Muslim countries, u must be thinking of Tel Aviv.

  • @bluedragon605 Try questioning xudaism, they will throw u in jail if not kill us. See Helen Thomas? Bobby Fischer? Mel Gibson? All the prophets? Jesus Christ?

  • "There is real poetry in the REAL world. Science is the poerty of REALITY." -Richard Dawkins

"We are each of us, a multitude" -Carl Sagan

How is these not twp of the most beautiful poetic comments? How is this not REAL poetry? It would be poetry that not only makes us look at this differently but is also factually based.

  • I think that the whole idea of evolution should be thought earlier instead of just saying it is true. I mean I've always believed in evolution but didn't actually grasp the whole system behind it until some time ago. The big leaps done in science recently, showing us worlds we possibly couldn't even imagine, doesn't leave any room for a person to not completely understand something as basic as evolution.

  • This video's like/dislike ratio is too small (a fact)

  • huminterresting Btw anyone up for some dity talk

  • Dawkins: Father of Secular-atheist Fascism. Religiosity is a tendency, a mindset: this guy has made a religion out of atheism; with man's "logic" (highly suspect) as its God! Other Aithist fascists included Mussolin, Hitler, Stalin,....

  • @sufiatheart - You'd say that about anyone who argued against religion. He's not seeking to ban religion - that would be fascist. He's just arguing the atheist case.

so what if Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin were atheists? Does that make atheism less valid? The wartime Japanese leaders were not atheists, neither were the Inquisition. So vegetarianism is bad because Hitler was one? Where does that leave Hindus and Budhists? See? Your logic is seriously flawed.

  • @CrankCase08 No, it doesn't make it less valid, but you'd have to be wearing a burqa yourself not to recognise that ANY ideology can get out of hand and end up putting other people in camps. All that changes is the reason. So what we're really looking at is how do we communicate rival world views without one side ending up doing harm to the other?

  • @Thimbledunk - Atheism is not an ideology, but rather the rejection of religious ideologies and fairy stories.

As far as communicating rival world views without causing harm, that exists already with no problems. However, there is one exception, and that is Islam. Islam is seperatist, divisive, reactionary, and anti-democratic.

  • Hi CrankCase08 - Ideologies aren't defined by the particular subject matter, but by ideological mechanisms used to promote them. For example, reification of Islam is an ideological mechanism. 'Islam' isn't any of those things - SOME Muslims are, and some Christians are - and Richard Dawkins certainly is, hence his use of deeply flawed 19th Century anthropoligical ideas such as social evolution. That's reactionary, and divisive, and not academically justifiable, as the young scientist points out.

  • @Thimbledunk - Sorry but you are talking bollocks. An ideology can be judged by its subject matter. If an ideology says that all female children must be circumcized (mutilated) at 10, then it can be judged according to its barbarity. Your 'reification' point makes no sense - poor English. It seems to me you are just reiterating some irrelevant academic formula that has no place in the real world.

  • Hi CrankCase08 - You're really proving the point. One of the standard elements of many ideologies is to be anti-academic. One of the tactics we associate with fanatical religious believers is the need to make 'academic' mean 'meaningless'. Creationists NEED to do that to undermine biologists for example. You only highlight the growin concern that not only are many of Prf Dawkins' ideas academically unjustifiable, but that he's socially supported by militant ignorance of the academic facts.

  • 'Reification' means treating an idea as if it were concretely real. Your examples only show that you don't know the real facts. 'Islam' doesn't circumcise female children - people do. And it's only certain sections of Islamic people, and indeed some other tribal groups, who do that - so pretending that it's a fundamental aspect of Islam is demonstrably fales. Equally, if Islam 'was' reactionary, how do you explain that it gave us many advances in science, engineering, maths, philosophy, medicine

  • @Thimbledunk Dawkins is illustrating that religion is pernicious in general.

  • @Thimbledunk You are an idiot. Religion gives you false sense of certainty. People wouldn`t kill "witches", adulterers or homosexuals if they weren`t sure God wanted them to. Take God away and suddenly people need to face the reality that they are morally responsible to the people around them, not some invisible dude in the sky.

  • @paolo27th Thanks for calling me an idiot - could you have made the point any clearer that atheists are just as likely to resort to calling people names rather than communicating with them, as any ideological thinker?

  • @Thimbledunk And if "most religious people" don`t behave thas way is either because A) they are not that religious after all or B) they live in relatively civilized parts of the world where civic laws happen to be stronger than religious bigotry.

Also lol, at Islam and scientific advancements. Please tell me where in the Quran I can find the next big scientific discovery.

  • @paolo27th What did xsrael ever invent? They steal, the Arabs invented plenty, such as Math.

  • @TheAmazingamerica Arabs did not invent maths. The Greeks and Chinese has invented parts of math way before the Arabs ever took parts of math such as algebra (from India) to Arabia. The zero was invented by a Hindu mathematician Aryabhatta. The Arabs took the basic maths from India and then claimed it was theirs.

  • @paolo27th That's like saying can you tell me which scientific advances are in the scientific method. Islam, formost of its history, has been a highly progressive social force, preserving, developing, adapting, numerous advances in science, philisophy, mathematics, medicine, architecture, art - the fact that you don't know this only indicates your ignorance of the subject you seem to think you're qualified to discuss.

  • love dawkins!

  • We are growing up, hold on and enjoy

  • God almost definitely does not exist (thumbs that up)

  • @invictorium Another thub-up whore. Jeez I hat comments like this.

  • @invictorium key word here...almost

  • @necr0sys yes....to compensate for the fact that science can't definitely disprove the existence of a celestial teapot orbiting the sun for example.

  • @invictorium Well the fact is we don't have more than 80% of the worlds population believing in a celestial teapot, we have the majority of people believing in a god. People including me who have personally experienced the supernatural.

  • @necr0sys there was once a time where 80% of the worlds population believed that the earth was flat; that doesn't make it a fact. I'm afraid you are simply deluded.

  • @necr0sys Did I say just because 80% believe in a god it is fact? NO I did not. Read carefully. All I'm saying is that if so many people do actually believe something, we are talking billions here, don't you think it would be worthwhile to investigate properly? Do you think billions of people are all deluded and all their claims are false?

  • his metaphor of the Mother of all Burquas is oddly similar to Plato's myth of the Cave; he seems to have faith in humanity's ability to cast away the chains that bind us and limit us from viewing the world about us. He has faith in science and the possibilities of science, in spite of the nonexistence of the evidence required to make such claims... he takes a leap of faith, a leap of faith no different from a religious man who places his faith in a higher being.

  • i disagree he takes no leap of faith he believes science can explain the universe because that's what it has been doing, and as a scientist that's what he does, scientist are discovering new things all the time.

  • queerer then we can supposted?

  • Because today the Burka/Chador is the symbol of Islam. Just like the man on the cross is the symbol for Christians.

Unlike the man, the Burka is real. It is part of the package that denies women in Islamic states the right to drive a car or be rescued from a burning building without her proper attire.

Muslim men seem to be pretty one-track minded.

  • Comment removed

  • @Psychentist Sure but at the same time you cannot be bias and say that the natural is all there is. there are millions and millions of people who believe in a god, people who claim to have had supernatural experiences, people whos lives have been completely changed through Jesus Christ specifically, people who have been released from bondage from sin.The problem is people don't want to know because they are scared of the 'religious' implications. They do not want to change their sinful lifestyle

  • It's funny. The comments are ablaze with religious debate, and yet this video is probably the only instance of Richard Dawkins on YouTube talking about anything other than religion.

  • Nah, there are plenty of other videos. He is a biologist, afterall

  • if all women around the world covered up and they were no porn vids then perverts will have nuthing to luk at and thats the thing these craving for sex beasts cant stand. what a disgrace they chating about what women wear they say we muslim force well your trying 2 force your way of life on us aint u.

  • well then get out of our countries and stay in your own...

not to be rude but if you come into our countries then you go by our culture, you cant try and impose your stuff on US then get pissed when we push back.

  • well you get out of america and hand it bk to the native indians? we not forcind nobody thats just sumatthatmedia uses to make islam to be a religion of warand force. ur culture has immorality involved in it so sory dont fancy it.

  • you obviously dont understand what im saying. it's completely different with the natives, all of north america was obviously wrong for doing that but we've established our own free countries now. now that we're independent nations we abide by our own culture and practices, so if you dont like them then LEAVE. youre not forcing us to convert but instead pushing for as much as you can get before we get pissed. all you do is complain about your 'rights'. if you want your culture, go back to it.

  • Richard Dawkins is simply fabulous. I must buy this book.

  • arumentum ad hominem on half of your comment.. no wait... it's all an argumentum ad hominem... cogratulations fareedfilms, that's brilliant ¬¬

  • 1: so according to you a user name is enough to make an argument (what you did is not an argument nor even a comment worthy of the name, just Ad Hominem). 2: so if I understand correctly you are saying that "to be honest, i didn't even watch the video" and at the same time you are saying that "Dawkins's video is actually an argumentum ad hominem" but you don't provide further arguments to support it AND you didn't watch the video. what a huge contradiction...

  • (part 1) The username is actually worthy of a comment, because by being a free thinker, it doesn't mean that you let others do the thinking for you. -> subjective opinion+assumption, thats all you do. The person who posted this is just like any other fanatic-> how do you know?+prove it. dawkins has set and atheists mustn't break them, just like religión -> are you kidding me? By the name of the video 'mother of all burqa's' i could it was an argumentum ad hominem -> or an analogy

  • (part 2, continues from part 1) the tittle could be" anything you want depending how you look at it according to your reasoning... "as he judges a religion by clothing rather than the theology" didn't you say you didn't watch the vid, also, to focus on one vid and say this is a bit narrow because there's many... but hey, I disagree with you, that of course means I'm a Dawkins worshipper of some sort of cult and blahblablah, right? ... you make weak arguments in my opinion...

  • (part 3) by your reasoning if my user name was DemocracyAndFreedomRules that is enough for you the only premise you need is that we disagree and then if I upload a documentary about WWII or Adolf Hitler then I must be a just other fascist Adolf worshiper fanatic, right?... the answer to that of course is: nope..

  • You fail on so many levels.

First, this video does not argue that Islam is bad because people wear burqas. He does suggest at the beginning that burqas are bad because of their purpose (control and repression of woman) and then makes a case that the same control is being used on a large scale throgh a symbollic burqa.

It's the same as though one were to talk about blinders on a horse used to focus the horse's attention on what the master wants and how society as a whole wears blinders.

  • The only difference is the blind, baseless assertions in the absence of evidence.

  • @fareedfilms

If Science is a religion, then so be it. At least it has logic, instead of a bloodthirsty god that endorses ignorance, and killing those that are different than us.

Look everyone, I just judged a religion by it's theology.

  • RD you are truely my hero. I wish I had 10% of your understanding.

  • brilliant

  • Comment removed

  • Richard Dawkins is an absolute genious! I hope he continues to speak across the world, as all countries desperately need a dose of logic.

  • That was Brilliant !!!

  • Amazing.

  • Beautiful

  • It is indeed saddening that only, as it stands, 2,298 people have watched this video. I sincerely hope that more have read the book. Such sentiments almost move me to tears at times.

  • This is an inspiration...

  • Excellent!!!

  • If sense is so common, why don't more people have it!

  • the problem with simple truth like this is that it is so complicated as to elude the imagination of many. people are not geared to understand quantum mechanics nor relativity, and a lack of education mixed with common sense will turn many away from the truth. this is one of the primary challenges of science against religious dogma, the uneducated will not seek education in concepts that they are unable to make sense of.

  • Comment removed

  • @greycloud24 "Common sense" may be common, but rarely makes sense.
