OMG does this ever hit where it hurts. I grew up listening to this as the first song they played on our local radio station when Christmas struck at midnight, candles and tree all lit up, relatives ,warmth, the smell of food. I can feel it.

When did she record this version? It's a late one because it's in stereo. I like it of course but I found 3 different MJ versions in YouTube. This one has got the best sound quality but the 78rpm one has got a more powerful voice.

Her voice has something unique about it. The dynamics and the control are superb.

I grew up listening to Mahalia Jackson as my mother played her albums frequently. As a kid I ridiculed her booming voice when she played the records. Now I no longer make fun of it.

I used to lay by our Hi Fi...as it was called in those days when I was a child, and listen to Mahalia Jackson for hours upon hours, until my Mother would pull me away to play outside...or downstairs.
