Phish is great because they did it themselves. They showed the whole music world that there is no need for the big hit single, hit album and hit video. They had none of that and look how huge they got because of it. They did it their way and found a whole group of people along the way that didn't need to hear any big hits or anything like that. They just wanted to hear great music and see great shows. And in the end, isn't that what its all about anyway? All the jam bands rule.

Murwaski is a fine guitarist and does the best job of anyone of nailing so much of Garcia's early playing style. He has great feel but Trey is miles ahead of him as a composer.

you're right about speaking to us personally, BUT I have heard Trey. Do yourselves a favor and go see Creek or Scott w/ Bill Kruetzmann from Dead and Oteil from Allmans. I don't know ANYONE that has heard both that doesnt think Scott is far the better player. Let's not forgot... Britney Spears is famous too.

Max Creek is Grade B+ "regional" jam band music. Not as bad as Grade C (eg moe.), and only slightly better than Grade B (eg ekoostik hookah).

Max Creek is no Dead / Phish in their respective primes. I think these are the only true "Grade A" jam bands, with Widespread coming in at A-

And bringing up Oteil "from Allmans", please. The Allmans are a nostalgia act and have been for some time, like the "Dead" are now. Oteil in his ARU days I will give you.

I still havent "gotten" these guys and don't hear the musicianship (is that a word?) or the feeling. Creek is the better band and Murawski blows Trey outta the water. But, then again, he blows almost everyone outta the water, so not a knock on Trey. I still ask the question - if these guys weren't famous, would people think they were good?

Britney spears is famousbecause some marketing guys at a Record label and Mtv decided that she would be.

Phish is famous because they played 200 nights a year for ten years building a fanbase of people who thought they were good.

dividedguy says this performance is great......love to hear the earlier versions. Glen Falls '94 Halloween still the best, I think. Not many people realize that this is part of the Gamehendge story......I wish Phish would release an entire Gamehendge CD, but it will never happen.
