This case is the perfect example of why I like J.J. She can see right through the smoke, and deal justly. The D wanted to profit from the "free" money from his brother's estate without properly settling his brother's bills first. Take a lesson! It's better to make absolutely sure that you don't spend money that you don't have a right to, than to have to suffer the pain, embarassment, and financial burden of having to pay back that which you should never have taken. On the other hand, the young man who passed wasn't just the D's brother, it was the P's nephew. The survivors may ask for help with funeral expenses but you do that to honor the deceased and for their memory. I'm an aunt, too, and if that were me I would've let it go.

@horseangels I believe the reason that the P got $2000 is because (instead of $1000) is due to the final check from "the government" being sent and cashed AFTER the nephew's death.The aunt spent some of the money (even though it was for funeral expenses) BUT the government required her to pay the check money BACK out of her own bank account.The government watches all money! Therefore she sued other nephew for her money, because by that time,insurance money had been received.
