alot of people seem fine with just starting atta colonies, but dont they reach numbers of 8 million and have gigantic colonies the size of 3 bedroom houses and are potentially an eco disarster if they get out? but loads of people keep them, arent they difficult, sorry for all these questions, could someone message me, i am interested. (i just have a Lassius Niger Colony and soon to get Messor Barbaras.
you should really do that, there are lots of places to buy them on the net. if you dig one up the chances are you might kill the queen and even if you do get one, you will kill all the workers that do not go with her, because unless they can hatch off another worker they will die becuase they have no purpose.
LOl that sucks man but yeah its a guess all the time ya know. You can never tell whats going on but normaly for fire ants and other queens it takes a month or 2 months till u see mroe activity once they dug themselfs up. What i normaly do is find some ant eggs from another ant hive and put them in a hole made for the queen i found and close the entrance with the queen and the stolen eggs and she normaly comes out alive with stolen soldiers and more eggs she made
It is illegal not matter what! queen ants are completely forbinnen from to post office unless they are dead. Lasius niger does not occur in the U.S. If you want a queen do a little research on your native ants and catch a new queen. It isn't that hard. I have 4 colonies of tetramorium in my room.
i have acromymex octo leafcutter colony in my room, about 250 workers atm, i just have a stick to the floor and put leaves in the corners of the room to find, they dont seem to run about randomly like most ants so i dont squash them, wouldnt mind getting an atta colony though :)
Ur so lucky, here in holland we only have lasius niger, lasius flavus myrmica rubra, formica fusca and a serveral other boring species :/

oh no! well..i've set up "ant traps" so if a queen strolls into any of my rock set ups, i can take her out of the garden and into my ant farm safely!
