I had the pleasure of hearing Craig play in concert last week, for the first time. He is just amazing - a superb natural and instinctive jazz musician. He kept me smiling all evening in admiration, and virtual disbelief. Truly one of the "GREATS." I also had the pleasure of meeting this guy - and he is "a true gent" of the first order. Unforgetable. Just make sure you go to see him play.
[Comment Part 2:] But it is true artistic homage, for Criag is not some unimaginative copycat, he has his very own marvellous, distinctive musical voice, and it's beautiful. In fact I think he has one of the most beautiful, lyrical Jazz voices on piano today. Personally I think he's one of the best Jazz pianists in the world. Check out 'Threeflow' for example. Just Google his name for his website, and check Amazon too.
[Comment Part 1 (sorry , can't fit in everything I want to say in exactly 500 words):] I've met Craig a few times and had some small degree of (non-musical)interaction with him on a couple of projects, and I can tell you that not only is he a brilliant jazz pianist but also a lovely, warm, unpretentious guy with a generous spirit. Peterson is his hero and it comes perfectly naturally to Craig to pay homage; his 2008 'Live at the Lights: A Tribute to Oscar Peterson' is a treat.
Thank-you for this, it is thrilling to listen to Craig for the 1st time, i'll be listening for him in the future. For those of you (like me) who have been fans of Oscar (since 1946!) please check out Marian Petrescu's tribute to Oscar on Resonance Records!

ye shut the fuck up "blogdocrato" leave milvertons dad alone how much music does your native Brazil produce?... o ye none most of them are dieing on the streets due to your poor goverment.
Blogdocrato you twat. My dads been studying oscar for over twenty years and absolutely idolises him. its natural that if you love someones playing so much you're bound to sound like them and besides this is a tribute to Oscar so it wouldn't be right if he sounded like Bill Evans or Herbie Hancock. Id like to see you do better
It´s funny...when we listen to the "real" Oscar Peterson, this sound amazing, but this is ridiculous!! I can´t listen...the man is a "cover" , he learnt to play like Oscar, but he doen´t have "touch", nor personal ideas. He plays dull, without emotion... oh man, you need to develop your own musical personality and "touch" instead of stealing from other people. It´s like a chinese copy...Sorry... the next one...
I have always been an Oscar P fan. What's this fellow's name? He must play the piano all day and doesn't sleep, hehe. I met Oscar in Boston years ago and he said he was practicing up to 15 hours daily and had perfect pitch, which certainly doesn't hurt.I just discovered him. He has really done his homework and applies it all the way. Was he a student of Oscar's personally? Whoever he is, he has done an impeccable tribute, very complex technique, 5*****
July 1/10 is Canada Day, and the q!ueen unveiled a life-sized statue of Oscar sitting at his piano in our capital of Ottawa adjacent to The Art Centre. I was fortunate to attend the memorial for Oscar held at Roy Thompson Hall in '07 in Toronto.
You expect him to be as good as Oscar then? I don't know of any Piano player in the UK who come as close to Oscar as Craig. Come on give him credit - he's amazing.
And what have you ever done in the music business that either equalled or exceeded what Craig Milverton has done? (other than playing in some Elton John cover band or managing the keyboard department at some two-bit music store)
Really inspired of the great Oscar. Very good technique! Great plaing.

Unexpectedly excellent. Solid technique, nice touch, interesting harmony - and it sounds improvised, not mechanical.

Sounds a lot like Tatum. It's alright. I wouldn't call this an Oscar Peterson sound though.

Very well played - especially the double tempo thing at around 3:13 reminds me of the HAPPY play by Oscar Peterson.
