i disagree i think angel should have gotten to be the vampire in the prophecy (but i see your reasons, i do.) you said that spike chose to have a soul but how many years after angel was cursed with his? maybe after time if angel wasnt cursed met buffy like spike did he would want a soul too. thats just my thinking
I just love Angel's arc of season 5 of Angel about how power corrupts and disconnects and if you really compare it with Season 1 where Angel is firmly against everything Wolfram and Hart represents and Spike essentially turns into what Angel used to be. "Destiny" might just be the best episode of the season IMO, the story of how Angel and Spike met, how they differ, how Spike always wants what Angel's got (Buffy, a soul, a destiny...) There's tons of great episodes. It's a terrific series!

Whenever I think of season five my mind immediately goes to Spike and he becomes my whole reason for wanting to see it. This is the season where Spike truly shines. Ever since he discovered he loved Buffy there's always been some shakiness to his character, but season five of Angel is where he really becomes a balanced character.

Buffy i reckon is a better show. Most people like Buffy better because anyone can relate to it. and i like it better. when you say you like action eps better then talking eps of buffy i can't disagree but talking episodes are interesting . unlike smallville when it ends and they have10 minutes to spare so they just do this boring talking stuff that has nothing to do with the plot. Buffy was rated the second best sci-fi fantasy show in a mag after "Charmed". Stupid "Charmed"!

Great Review. I'm very conflicted on if i like Angel better the Firefly. But in the same position as the best show ever (which ever one wins). Mine and my wife's biggest beef with season 5 is all the Fred Worship. Mainly that Cordelia dies and yes people are sad for the whole last 5 seconds of the episode. Then next episode comes up and every one is back to work honky dory like nothing happened. Maybe a mention. BUT WHEN FRED DIES, everyone mopes around for 3 or 4 episodes. I hated that so much!

First she was taken over by an evil being and did horrible things, and while they know it wasn't her that did those things, it still did them with her face. Secondly, she was in a coma for a long time before she finally died, and the whole time they knew there was a chance she probably wouldn't wake up from it. This is why I think Cordelia's death didn't make as much of a commotion as Fred's did.
I don't think Spike wanted his Soul when he goes threw the Demons test's he is trying to obtain the power to kill Buffy because he is mad because she Rejects him after they slept together in season 5 or 6 so Spike goes to this Demon that tells him if he passes his test he will give Spike the Power to Destroy Buffy when he passes Spike thinks he is getting the ultimate power and the Demon says "We Shale Return Your Soul" at least that's what I think Happened, either way ANGEL Best T.V. Show Ever

They never said anything about destroying Buffy. It was about giving her what she deserved. It was a red herring to make you think it more of a surprise when you find out he is going to get his soul. That was pretty obvious though with all the indirect talk.
If I may, Spike wanted to be 'like he was' I assume that meant without the chip. The deamon, tricky bastard that he is, gave him his soul, like he was, when he was human.
Brendanofthecult-Joss himself said he went there to get his soul back but they purposefully made the dialogue misleading so people would think he wanted to get his chip out.

You became interested in Oz out of nowhere and switched over to Buffy? What? ... Weird. Sounds a little random. Also, too late now, but it would have been better if you started with BtVS rather than Angel.
He's a good character but personally, I can't see any knowledge of Oz being some compelling catalyst for watching the show. He is cool, though. Just sort of... static. If you had said Xander, Spike, or heck, anyone else, I would have understood.

Buffy i reckon is a better show.
